My son Chris and daughter Brittany both had archery pig tags this year and we were able to get into a good size herd yesterday morning. It was a awsome hunt as they both were able to tag out within a few minutes and only 30 to 40 yards from each other. Thanks again to Jack C. for his assistance and dedication on this succesful hunt.

Number #3 for the new year
Coues&Coyotes replied to Bird Dog's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
Congrats on a good old yote and also putting a great shot on him while he was getting out of Dodge. -
Well Bird Dog and myself was back at it this morning and this female came in on the first stand. She held up at 30 yards but was behind a bush so I had to wait until she began to move off. A couple of barks stopped her and one well placed 85er dropped her in her tracks.

Dude, you are the most extreme hunter I know. That pack job out with that monster was by far the most difficult thing I've ever done. Thanks for sharing this great accomplishment with myself and Chris, it's was an experience that I will never forget and hope to learn from to prepare myself for future hunts with you. Congrats to you on a teriffic bear, you diffently put in many hours and all that time and hard work was rewarded with a super trophy.

Saturday afternoon yote!
Coues&Coyotes replied to Coues&Coyotes's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
It's a Ruger No.1B in a 6mm shooting a 85gr.speer. Yeah the old single shot has been getting quite a workout latley, it's the same gun that Brittany took her deer with a few weeks ago. -
Well I had only a couple of hours yesterday afternoon but decided to go out and see if I could call anything in. Was able to get in 3 stands and actually called in one dog per stand. Unfortunaly stand 1 and 3, I didn't realized I had called anything in and got up from the stand to soon (All three stands the dogs came in behind me). I got this female on No. 2 and kinda funny story on how it unfolded. I had just set down and started calling for about three minutes when as I was calling, the reed blew out of my call and into my hand. Well as I was putting the reed back in the tube I ended up bending the reed backwards into the tube. Well here I am fiddling around with my call, the gun is off to my left when all of a sudden I look up and this coyote comes walking right in front of me at a distance of about 5 feet. Not expecting to see a dog, I remained still and let her continue moving from right to left. I think she knew something wasn't right when she couldn't find the rabbit and started trotting away. At that time, I reached over, got my rifle and followed her to the opposite side of the drainage and at about 60 yards let her have it. I think if I hadn't had the issues with my call, this dog probably would have busted me just like the other ones that came in from behind me. One reason I perfer to hunt with at least one other person. Enjoy!

Wanted to post pictures of my daughters coues she got Sunday afternoon. After hunting hard the week before on her cow elk tag (we didn't get one), we came right into this hunt a little worn out. Friday and Saturday only seeing does and fawns, we decided to move to a different area. We reach a spot that I've hunted over several years now at about 3:00 PM. Right at 4:30 PM I glass up this two point buck standing in the shadows between two junipers. I quickly pointed out the buck to Brittany and began getting her a solid rest. Once see said that she was ready, I ranged the buck at 180 yards. I told her that she would need to put the crosshairs at the bottom of his chest (300 yrd zero and the buck is almost at the bottom of this canyon). Watching thru my binos on a tripod, I hear the gun go off and watched the buck hit the dirt instantly. It was a perfect hit and he didn't move from that spot. After a little celebration, with the help of my 19 yr old son Chris, we were able to get to him and out of the canyon right a dark. Even though myself and my son didn't fill our tags, this was still a very sucessful hunt and look forward to getting caught up a little rest now and start looking forward to next year.

Predator Hunting Contest
Coues&Coyotes replied to AzTrapper's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
I would be very interested but it would be depending on location of the check in and time of the hunt as I have to first concentrate on my daughters elk hunt and our whitetail hunt . Also only if Bird Dog (the original one on Coues as there are 2 now) was to be my partner. You up for it BD? I don't really care for the rule of losing points due to pelt damage as my 55grainers aren't very pelt friendly. I also feel it is probably necessary to have some sort of cost to enter as things like this tends to get expensive for whoever takes on the commitment. So let's see how this pans out. And just to wet the taste buds a little, I got this big male this afternoon on my second stand after calling for about 2 minutes. Enjoy. -
Well after what seemed like forever (only a little over 7 months) I got my 07 buck back. Needless to say I'm very happy with the end results and wanted to share it with everyone on coueswhitetail. Thanks for looking and hope you enjoy.

Well just for you firstcoueswas80 here's a field pic and a short story to go along with it. This was only the second whitetail buck I seen after hunting for 8 days. First spotted him at 268 yards and ended up letting my excitement get the best of me. Missed the first shot and he decided it was time to leave. After trotting away he came out from behind a juniper and I was lucky enough drop him at 300 yrds. He ended up scoring around 85 and some change. Would have scored much better if it wasn't for his 10 3/4 inside spread but I couldn't be more pleased with him especially after hunting so hard. Best of luck to everyone on the up coming 08 draws.

Well I've been a long time CouesWhitetail.com guest but now that my daughter got her first archery pig I finally had to become a member. Last Sunday morning we were able to get into a group of 5 pigs but after trying a stock, the pig locked onto us and bolted out of the country. Later in the afternoon after hiking into some remote country, we glassed up a group of bedded javelina and the stock was on once again. Everything was in our favor as the wind was blowing into our faces and the pigs had no idea we had slipped into 20yrds of them. I stayed about 20yrds behind Brittany and let her do the rest of the work. As she was drawing on a smaller pig in front of her, the arrow fell off the rest and she had to let down. This noise and movement alerted some other of the pigs in the group and was looking like they were getting ready to take off, so I blew on a varmit call and all of sudden this boar came charging in. Brittany immeditaley turned to her left and drew on this pig. The boar stopped quartering to her so I blew on the call again and his attention was back on me. As soon as he turned his head, Brittany let the arrow fly and hit him right in front and behind his front shoulder putting the broadhead into his heart. The boar ran around a bush and laid dead in a matter of 3 or 4 seconds. I guess all these years going to all of the 3D archery shoots really paid off when it really counted. As you can see, she was even using her purple target bow, guess it's a good thing javelina don't see very well. Hope you enjoy.

Congrats! Way to go guys.

Was able to get out this afternoon before the next storm arrives. After 3 unsuccessful stands in the cold wind, I was able to call this guy in after about 3 minutes of calling. My son and I actually found a cow carcass and seen two other dogs nearby so I think we'll be visting this location again a little later. Hope you enjoy.

One from this afternoon
Coues&Coyotes replied to Coues&Coyotes's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
Yeah I recently purchased this Ruger No. 1V and it's in a 6mm. The more I shoot this rifle the more I love it. The single shot seems to make me settle down to make the first shot count. I'm using 85gr. Speer BT bullets which did no pelt damage at all on this dog. -
Thanks cgmartin and amanda. Hope to have lots of postings this year in this forum.
