well we almost have the fesh snow from this morning out of the drive here in Flag. our house is about the same as Dougs with between 3-4 ft most places. It is quite a bit of the white stuff. Here are a few pics I took a hour or so ago. The picture with my BBQ is just the snow that fell not what we piled up from shoveling and its taller that my BBQ! Looks like we got nearly 16 inches of snow on top of the inch of rain and sleet last night and this morning. Be safe out there. -sam

I haven't got these yet but I have been eying them. I don't know if they work on ALL glasses but it seems pretty universal. Let us know what you end up with and what works. http://shop.kingsoutdoorworld.com/Eye-Shie...lars_p_161.html -sam

not an expert, but my brother found a fresh one during the November elk hunt this year and I have found one or two in years past during the fall. the bucks I saw the other day were small too? and I know there is usually a decent buck there, maybe I just didn't see him or maybe he hadn't grown big yet? It seems like maybe they dont shed every year. Im interested to see what some of the more educated folks on here think. -sam

good morning I was just wondering if any of you have any idea if different nikon eye pieces are swapable between different nikon scopes such as the fieldscope, prostaff and the earth and sky. I get the general Idea that there is a difference between 60mm an 80 mm objectives. I more wondering if I could use a new 60mm fieldscope eypiece on a few years old prostaff and earth 'n sky? any thoughts would be great. thanks, -sam

that is a nice buck, im no expert on coues but im guessing he is big cause he is way smarter than you or I or any one else on his case, but thats why we love them. You got some great pics and are getting more knowledge. just keep doing what your doing and when it all comes together it will be awesome. keep the wind good and elevation on him if you can. and if you cant get it done this time give me a call in a few months and we can go track up his horns when he drops um good luck! -sam

Good morning. Well its been five days into my Dec coues hunt and I have not pulled the trigger yet but that doesn't mean we haven't had a good time. I came back today to warm up, do some laundry, take a shower, get some groceries, and of course catch up on five days worth of post that I have missed. I hesitated to post this in the shed thread or in the hunting in AZ thread but the only real tangible thing I have to show is a shed... so he I am. Dave and I have been seeing a good amount of coues does, elk, and muleys and even a few small wt. bucks. there Is lots of time left so Im not worried and I am excited to get back to glassing. I just thought I would post a few pics. Hope you enjoy. Good luck to all the dec hunters out there. -sam

good evening all, Well I saw this in my moms collection a while back and I guess it is almost vintage. This was my second coues buck and I think this is pretty much what lit the fire for me to spend the last 12 years burning countless tanks of petro and a good bit of Vibram looking for them. I will never for get this hunt. I had the tag along with my dad, and it was supposed to be the type of deal where I shot the first buck with some sort of antler sticking out of its head and my dad was going to be looking for a respectable mature deer. well about three hours after first light on opening morning my turned around 50yds from me and asked what I was shooting at in the really thick trees. I said plainly, "a deer, i just saw horns and shot" after some sort of "what the heck are you thinking" look, he walked over and said where? "over there", I was told to say put and he would go over and look for blood. Im pretty sure he thought I was shooting at ghosts! well when he got over there and in fact found this gray ghost dead in its tracks the just looked at me and laughed and said go figure. Dad and I spend the whole rest of the hunt looking for a nice buck and on the very last day he ended up shooting a nice 3x4. first and last day bucks that scored with in a 1/4 inch each other right about 87 inches, (mine was the 1/4 inch biger ). We have had lots of great hunts since then and maybe some day I will give those carp deer another shot but i'll probably just keep getting drawn for dec coues hunts on my second choice like always. by the way, I shot this buck and several others using one of two guns, this one is a 600 rem in 6mm rem, and my other favorite is my 22-250 with the federal permium 55gr. -sam

That sure is a buck of a life time. I was out there for 16 days, Im pretty sure I passed ya a couple times on the roads. congrats on a great buck and welcome to the site. -sam
-
I love my 600's in a couple calibers, that 6mm is a shooter for sure, its been rode hard but never lets me down. I shot that buck in 97 I think, I was twelve. I got my first coues buck two years earlier that was a 2 by. and truth be told that hunt made me so mad after chasing the things through brush taller than I was for 15 days, I wasnt going to let them get the best of me.

Lumps on Rabbits
coyotekid replied to savagman's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
savagman, It took me a few days to find these pics I took a few years ago on an elk hunt in the multi units. I dont think this is is the same as you were describing but it is a weird lump on a jack. I dont know if it was some kind of cancer or tumor but it didnt look good and needless I didnt eat it! -
Those are two awesome bucks. and it just makes it that much cooler that you were able to do it with your brother. Got to love the great character of both bucks. Good luck topping those next year! Thanks for posting the cool pics and a very nice write up. -sam

Good evening. I suppose its not really "high jacking" a thread if its my own thread. right? well I dont have any more sheds to hold up at the moment. but I do have more pics to add to my story. I just got home to good old snow flagstaff from 16 days of late season coues hunting in northern AZ. Today is the second to the last day of the hunt for most tag holders but for myself, it was the last. Im headed out of town tomorrow to visit some family for new years so to day was the dreaded last day! Over the past three weeks I have had an amazing time in the woods, trying to track down the little gray cotton tail coues buck, spending time with some good friends, some family and a fair share of just being absolutely alone. I got to see alot of country. and Im sure you can all sympathize with that! I learned some new country and revisited some old favorite spots. I have to admit that I have been rather lucky with drawing this late tag and this is buck number seven (tag number 8) on the Dec hunts for me. During the course of the hunt, not counting all the tanks of gas scouting, I saw 15 bucks (not counting spikers), over 120 does, tones of flop ears, close to 100 bulls, and a array of other az creatures. I had made up my mind this year to hold out to see a bigger buck than I have taken before. I got to get some pics and video of several decent bucks and I even got to try and sneak in to range on a couple very nice bucks and I am not ashamed to say I couldn't make it happen on those occasions. This morning being my last morning, I was going to pull the trigger on an mature buck. and that is just was I was able to do. My dad and my brother came over and met me this morning to get some extra eyes on the hill. We gassed up several does and even a little buck that was WAY out there. I made a journey to try and get closer and ended up nearly stepping on him. literaly we scared eachother to death with only about a 10 foot boulder between us and then he was gone and I was trying not to have a heart attack! It was about mid day and I called my dad and told him it was time to hang it up and I was going to rim around this mountain and then meet them at the road, they were just going to eat some lunch and wait for me. about five more minutes of walking and I jumped two does out of their beds. It seemed like ever five minutes I would find two more does and just never a buck! I know I had seen several buck in that area but they all must have heard that it was game over day so they stayed home. I pushed one more doe out of her bed and she trotteed right over the hill, as I followed her I caught a glance at her boy friend. He was just shy of 300yrs below me and I mean RIGHT below me. Not but a second later my brother called me an asked if that was the bark of my 300, yes it was. one clean shot and he never took a step. This isnt be biggest buck you or I have ever seen but I am dang proud of him and I was glad the one day my dad and brother could come was a good day. He is a low 80's frame buck but broke on both 3rds. so he looks like a bit forky. I cant wait to get some strap steaks of him. Good luck to all you january arrow flingers and pig hunters. -sam
