Are their any radios without call alert or roger beep
THOR replied to hawkeye's topic in Other Hunting Gear
With most motorola radios....if you hold down the minus sine as you turn it on it should silent it... -
What I was told by my Dad who is great behind some binos is look for rabbits....with that being said it means look for little things and not a deer in the sunlight. A lot of people will stop glassing at 8 or 9 in the morning. it depends on the moon as well. all deer will get up when the shade changes. as soon as the sun hits that buck more than likely he will move or at least stand to be seen. all I can say and what I tell people is "when you want to leave to another spot give the spot your at 30 more minutes" Mark

Buying used Swarovski optics
THOR replied to pwrguy's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
They will more than likely warrant it...maybe the person you buy it from didnt register it. they always warrant the gear you might just have to pay a little bit...there are some ways to try to make it cheaper if you want to pm me. -
+1 Elk are crazy tough animals...thats all that needs to be said...its a personal opinion on if you want to keep hunting. everyone is different and doesnt make them a better or worse hunter. things happen you could hit a limb or all kinds of stuff could happen. as long as the hunter tried to follow up on the shot and trail there is not much more that can be said. it was a wet week up north_ blood trails go quick. i wouldnt try to shoot another and that would be a tough thought (thats just me)....with many sleepless nights....thats why they call it hunting and not killing. I have been fortunate to not wound anything yet.....but i have slept..or tried to sleep through the night and get him in the morning....its a horible feeling.....

I was on a hunt with a buddy that past up a shot at 60 yards because he said he was only good out to 50. there needs to be more hunters like that. I was proud of him...it was about a 340 bull....tough to do. one shot one kill. i have chased so many blood trails without them being found (not by me). I have not lost anything yet but if you hunt long enough it is going to happen. Work hard, scout hard and target shoot as much as you can...

No way....!!!! thats my opinion. a friend this year shot a great bull and could not find it after a couple days of looking and rain washing away the blood trail and he hung up is bow, he said, "i killed my bull....just couldnt find it". there is no answer that is correct but we all have our opinion- an elk tag is hard to come by here in AZ. yes you will keep your bonus points....but if you want to keep getting more points you have to buy a hunting license to do so regardless of getting drawn or not. the points you have right now you will keep for sure...

Ill be up there on monday to help out on the last part of the hunt in 4b. pm your number and i will keep my eye open for him. hopefully someone will find him. how big was he?
-
i think its a cat...the more i look at it. that slit in the ear gives it away....ill trim the ears up a bit after i shoot him, so he looks better for the pics.
-
Great!!! Another Lion down there....every camara that is down there has pics of cats....I was hoping it was a bear.
-
I am not sure....looks too dark for a cat...
-
Congrats...way to get it done.....!!!! he looks yummy!

I would be drawing the line right now...That is way too long in my eyes. I would go in there and talk to the person, maybe there is a reasonable explanation. Good luck....for it taking that long it better look GREAT!

How do I scout for my october 24b hunt?
THOR replied to WISH I was on the MOUNTAIN's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Yesterday was a good day to start....Im just playin! try to get out as much as possible...the bucks I have been seeing are growing slow this year i would say most of them are only about half to 3/4 grown, but you will know if he is a shooter. If you find them now, they will be near the same place on opening day in October 75% of the time. After opening day, they may move a bit or go nocturnal depending on the hunting pressure. Good luck! -
Congrats Brian on a great Buck!!! To do it spot and stalk is even more of an accomplishment.

My buddy and I used a moo cow decoy on a rifle hunt a couple years ago. We went about a mile across the flats through a herd of cattle to within 90 yards and got him on opening day. We could have gotten closer if we needed to for a bow shot. we are both over 6' and 200 plus at the time and it conceled both of us in the wide open. It worked great for there being8 sets of eyes looking at us...not including the cattle. Good Luck!!!
