How Fat is Fat? The All American State of Denial and BMI
loco4coues replied to Healy Arms's topic in Hunting Fitness
Your doctor is right scoutm. The American College of Sports Medicine does use BMI as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. They also use the ** sign to leave this decision up to the physician on a case by case basis. Using the people on biggest loser for example: after 2 months on the ranch they are a lot more fit than when they started. Most of the time their blood pressure is within normal limits, their diabetes are gone or close to it, they are off most all of their other meds and their health issues have been largely resolved. But their BMI is still off the charts and they still have lots of weight to lose. There is study after study that indicate cardiovascular risk factors are a product of low fitness levels (not exercising) and not to how much a person weighs. Like has been said, it depends what your goals are and what you want to accomplish. On the show Extreme Weightloss the clients want to get to 50% of their original body weight by the 9 month mark so they can qualify for skin removal surgery not because they still aren't in shape yet. Also as far as opinions go I agree that as a society we the definition of "overweight" or "obese" have changed. There is science behind it all but it's not that complicated. Eat better, eat less and move more then good things will happen. -
I workout and coach at BuildUp CrossFit on Greenfield and McDowell. CrossFit is about being in shape to enjoy the things you love. Be in shape so you can go hiking, hunting, running, biking, swimming or join in any sports, etc. that you want to try. The community is great and by an overwhelming majority we want you to be smart, be safe, get fit and have fun.

How Fat is Fat? The All American State of Denial and BMI

Thanks for sharing and good luck on your journey to a healthier lifestyle. It sounds like you have made some great progress. It's always good to self evaluate and make healthy changes. Eating well and exercising daily is so much more important than a number on a chart or on a scale. That being said, here are a few of the issues with BMI charts: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=106268439 -

The link worked for me when I tried it. The episode is #9 The Organs. You can vote on the home page about half way down here: https://outlanderstv.com You can then click on the little jpeg of the hunt and it will bring up the video to watch. Hope that helps! -

UPDATE: My dad talked with the producer this week and the editing of the show is complete. They are saving this hunt for the season finale and are very excited about how it turned out. I added a picture of the bull that was taken. I still don't want to share any details because I want you to watch the show (it will be available online shortly after it airs). Trust me when I say you won't want to miss it! It is slotted to air Thursday April 24th at 7:00pm AZ time. Thanks guys. My dad and brother were selected to be on Outlander Limited Draw this last year. They had a December rifle bull hunt. They killed one bull and got it all on film for the show. Keep your eyes open for their episode to air in the coming weeks. I believe they are saving it for the final episode. I'm not going to spoil anything but you won't want to miss it! -

Digiscoping with Swarovski STX vs. ATX eyepiece

Great setup! Exactly what I have in my dreams. the only difference is a would have the canon 70d with the articulating touch screen and continuous autofocus when using video mode. Again, only in my dreams at this point. Thanks for sharing the images too. I always look forward to your videos and photos from scouting trips and hunts. -

We aren't happy about it but we need to find a new home for our yellow lab, Diesel. He is 7 years old. He has been neutered. We have had Diesel for two years. We got him from a couple who couldn't keep him due to a child's allergies. We are in the same boat. My wife and my oldest boy are severely allergic. Before we got him he had been an inside/outside dog. He has been 100% an outside dog for the last two years to mitigate the allergies. A secondary reason is my wife and I both work; between that and kids activities we just aren't devoting enough time to Diesel. He needs a family that can give him the time that he deserves. He is a wonderful dog. He is very loyal, great with kids, and still has plenty of energy. He listens well and is a great dog. He loves playing fetch with his ball. The only "issue" I can think of is when he first meets other dogs. I don't think he had any contact with others dogs before we had him. When he first meets another dog he tries to show them that he is the boss, but I correct that and after 10-15 minutes he is fine with the other dog. We have about 8 dogs in our cul de sac and he hasn't had any problems after the initial meeting with them. We aren't looking for any money. He has a carrier/kennel, a leash, a brush, etc. that will come with him if you need it. Just looking for a great home! I am in Mesa. Please ask any questions you might have!

Also is the part of the trigger where your finger touches smooth or does it have ridges?
-
Would you sell just the rifle? If so how much?
-
Awesome! The rifle looks great! We had to back off on the velocity to get the LRAB to shoot out of our rifle. We shoot the 150 gr Berger VLD right at 3000 fps and found the most accurate load for the 150 LRAB right around 2860 fps. Good luck!
