Took a Substance Abuse class this last semester and our professor brought in lots of guest speakers. All of these guests were on the drug forces of various agencies. They showed us lots of pictures and one officer tried to get authorization to show us the chain saw video, but it wasn't granted. They described the video and showed us some others. They showed us the latest KNR reports that outline where and how many of these reported murders have occured. One example from the KNR we were shown was from Jan.-May 2011 in Nuevo Leon (just one city) there were 660 murders. In Chandler,AZ from Jan-Nov. 2011 there were only 3 murders.

My brother killed his buck this last october shooting a .308. (168 gr. bullet) He killed his buck with one shot at 701 yards. Looked like the deer had a rug pulled out from under him and he went down hard. (My brother is a sniper on a large city's SWAT team, he shoots the .308 well)

Have you ever missed a shot because of a steep angle?

When I was 18 I was on a hunt with my dad and brothers in 30A, October hunt. It was the end of opening day and we hadn't seen much. As the sun started to get lower in the sky we decided to glass a ridge that we always found bucks on but hadn't had any luck earlier that day. Sure enough as soon as I swung my binos up to the top of the ridge there were two bucks silhoutted on the top, a nice 3 point and a 2 point. My dad and I hurried up a nearby road, then straight towards the ridge to cut the distance. We got to 465 yards. We were going to try for a double. We got all set up, I dialed my turrets and got settled in on the bigger buck. My dad said he was ready on the two point and would shoot right after I shot. I was rock steady and super excited. I squeezed off the shot and waited for the "WHOP", it didn't come. Well, we had a rule back then that whoever glassed up the deer got first choice and first shot...but nothing else was guarenteed. I had missed. My dad said the smaller one had gone over the top but the bigger one was still there and he had him in his sights. I knew the rule. My dad dropped the buck in his tracks. The buck scored in the mid 80's. Back at camp we talked about the steep uphill angle and why I had missed. (My dad had aimed low) I learned my lesson. The very next morning we found 4 different bucks a couple hundred yards down our favorite ridge and they were headed for the top. My brother had spotted them but offered me the first shot so I could redeem myself. By the time we got in position only one buck lingered at the ridgeline. We found oursleves again at 465 yards with a steep uphill shot, but I had just learned a huge lesson and I was ready. Dialed the turrets. Adjusted for the angle and got steady. My brother was laying prone right next to me ready for a follow up shot. Well, I missed again. Didn't tag out that year, but learned somethings about shooting angles. (the very next year drew a december tag for unit 22, dropped a 94 inch buck with one shot at 450 yards shooting uphill, so I did finally learned my lesson ) thanks for reading, Jared -

A man takes a blond hunting. She has never been before but is a good shot with a rifle and very excited for the hunt. First day they are sitting near the top of a ridge glassing. After a while they hear some brush rustling on the back side of the ridge. The man says he is going to go over the top and check out the noise. He tells the blond to sit tight. He also tells her that if she sees anything and she feels good about the shot to take it. A few minutes later the man hears a shot. He heads back over the ridge and sees the blond arguing with a hunter at the bottom of the ridge. He hurries down and hears the blond yelling, "Its my deer, I found him and I shot him, so you can just stay away!" Then the man sees the frightened hunter as he stammers " ok, ok, just let me take my saddle off of him."

Unit 22. Knew this buck was in here because he was running with the buck my little brother shot on the junior hunt. Looked for him all day Thursday and all day Friday with no luck. Finally found him on Saturday morning. My older brother took the shot. The buck was on the other side of a nasty steep canyon and heading over the top of the ridge he was on, it was about 8:00 am. There was no wind and the conditions were right. My brother laid prone and dialed up the range. 700 yards. Dropped the buck in his tracks with one shot. He went down hard. An hour later they finally made it over to the buck. He has some good character and good mass. He scores right at 102". Shot the buck at 8:00am and didn't get back to the quads until around 2:30pm. Congrats to my brother on another great coues buck!
