  1. sorry if this is in the wrong place but.... My son went down to the El Tule Ranch with Ernesto and Francisco Denogean of Trophy of Sonora and he glassed up this special javelina. He took the photo through his Leupold spotter with a digital camera. hope you enjoy!!! 2nd photo :the only thing that isn't white on his body is his butt, for what??? I think you can make pretty good guess. just for comparison, on the 3rd photo you can see a normal javelina to the left of the date stamp. you could see the whitey from 800 yards away with just your bare eye. probably one of the coolest things he has seen
  2. hhhhmmmmmm........guess not

  5. bonecollecter, the camera is a little less than 1 foot about the ground and angled up a little, as you can see that skunk came right to it.

Tell us about your elk rifle, and cartridge?

Written by 280REM's son; I shoot a 308 model 700 with a 22" barrel and a muzzle break, topped with a Burris Fullfield II 3-9x scope. My father(the master of reloading) and I got the 155 grain Berber VLD Hunting bullet to fly at 2700fps over 44 grains of Varget. this is purely a cow elk gun! Will not go out with a 308 for a bull as I think you need more gun. I shot a cow at 350 yards in October 2013, I hit her in the lungs but we did not see her go down. we couldn't find any blood but finally found her, fifty yards from where she was when I shot. the Berger bullet went in and immediately blew up, but it never put down any blood. it did do its job on the inside but it would be hard to track her if I didn't make a lethal shot, from now on I will use Accubonds. with these loads and this gun I was consistently hitting the rams out at 500 meters and having good groups at that.
  14. Thanks everyone, I will try to add to it and get another javelina with my muzzleloader this weekend. I had a javelina at 90 yards on sunday, but due to a faulty primer, they heard the TINGGGGG and spooked! I guess after being so lucky for so long it is about time for something to go wrong. -Patrick
  15. On this ranch there has been many white javelinas shot and they do not have pink/red eyes or noses. Patrick(my son) and I have a guess that it is a super dooper ubber recessive allele that is becoming more common on this ranch. About 1 of every 3 herds on the ranch has a whitey. But then again we are not any form of biologist.

    What's cold for javelina?

not to hijack this topic but....From the results of this past weekend you should be worried about what is too hot for javelinas. It will be even hotter this weekend, in Tucson. in the areas that I am hunting the pigs are in the shaded bottoms eating all of those green grasses and wild onions. Why would they want to be out in the sun, exposed to hunters, eating thorny prickly pear. if you do find some that prefer that option in 37b, give me a heads up and maybe a pm.

    Vortex vulture line 'please help'

I used a pair of Viper 15x50s in mexico for a week this year and absolutely loved them, they are small, compact and had good light transmission early and late. I was finding more deer than I ever have. Definitely a good glass especially for the money. I haven't had any experience with the Vultures but really liked the Vipers. hope this helps.

  20. Hi WC: Just filed my federal taxes on 02/03 and will have enough I think to cover this purchase. If we can come to terms, I can send you 1/2 the purchase price (money order) in two days to hold spotter for me, with balance upon receipt of my tax return. Right now, in good faith, I can offer $1300 for just the spotter. We already have three tripods. BTW, I live in Tucson. Please advise. THX. 280REM
