Whoa, 185 and 242, big diff!! heck my bud jason has plenty of those, my biggest is 174. Still 185 is a big one! Well my best day this year i found 7 bigguns. 1 brown 5 -1year olds and a 360 class hard white, took 5 hours to hike in, 4 hours to find the 7 Antlers all within 500 yd circle i'm guessin, and 9 hours to get um out, somewhere in there 6 hours of sleep. ha-ha. Otherwise i've got a couple here n there, probly 25 i guess. I leave allot of chalky whites 2 low on browns considering effort though zigin where i should zag i guess. thas shed hunting. I'm doing ok i guess. but i hold hi standards of numbers and size too.How bout you Ron?Srry still in the stone age, no pics developed yet to scan. soon as possible Ohh yeah, Quad tracks everywhere, you a-holes are putting everyones right to shed hunt in jeopardy! Plus makeing our woods look like crap, you suck - and you people know it. probly don't find many sheds either, running the baja 1000 and all. Keep shed hunting legal people! pretty soon we'll be one of those states with "shed hunting seasons" . Especially at the rate you people are trashing the woods! then you'll need a permit, license, . then maybe they'll outlaw it alltogether , will you idiots be happy then? just speekin my mind thats still legal isn't it?

Yeah i heard 3 local respected antler guys ,including the owner of the "Antler Attic" in pinetop scored this shed. It does sound unreal but i think it will hold true. I'd give my left nuggy to find one that big!

This Family was just being a family, maybe small game hunting too?Never the less makeing a big deal out of a simple spring outing, right on! Great to see traditions cary on. Personally half my wardrobe is camo so it's an every day thing. I simply love the outdoors and quite frankly never know when i'll be in the woods, any chance i get! My hunting skills stay sharp, i get close to wildlife whatever they are and just might get a good pic or at least memory. All Americans should wear camo every day! just kidding, but boy would we scare our enemies over seas. Ha!

Nice sets! What do they gross score given a 40 inch spread?

I'm starting this topic because I feel it has been the center of topic for shed hunters in recent years. This is my Opinion and my stance on the issue. Someone who uses them to access OPEN , LEGAL back-roads is OK. To those Lazy lowely forms of life running grids across hundreds of acres of virgin soil Scarring the earth for years with each pass, scareing the crap outa the game, leaking oil and gas through the washes, leaving their beer cans everywhere . & pretending thier running a rally race with a three year old on your lap, you should be Hung. Get OFF your butt. You'll find more sheds anyway! I use a 20lb pack and frame to horn hunt. also a pack horse. I'm even thinking about buying a quad to access OPEN FOREST ROADS I'd rather not take my truck down. But you will NEVER ever catch me OFF THE ROADS! Or Putting a childs life at risk. Has anyone had a family member die on a quad? I'm sure most by now sadly can tell that tale. most young children with no sense of fear or danger & stupid parents. In a nutshell Quads should be used in a lawfull, responsible, and ethical manner. They are a great tool and have many uses. tearing up the earth and risking lives of children is not one of them. Antlers are wonderfull enchanting artifacts of nature wich we can lawfully harvest. Lets not ruin that. Anything good in life takes effort and hard work, the reward is much greater, in antler numbers and satisfaction! Illegal-unethical use of ATV's is Wrong! Don't sell youre soul out of lazziness and carelessness. Respect the woods, Then others and God will respect you. This is my opinion, what's your's?

Thought i'd share a gripe while packing for shed trip. Last Sat. my cousins neighbor bought an old atc and has been acting a fool. The first day we saw him with a little, i mean little girl rideing on the gas tank with no helmet clutching the bars. The idiot, i will say his name Jerry had a helmet on, WTF? we drove by in my pickup and i pointed to my head and the little girl, He SAW. and kept rideing. The very next day he was trying to sell a 5x7 muley set, not including double brows! My cousin became suspicious and started walking hi fresh laid "trails" everywhere in the virgin soil, It's been a wet winter, his ruts were deep! That sucker found those trophy muleys on the property my cousin rents! Yesterday he rode by with the girl again, a helmet on her this time supriseingly, we tried to stop him and talk to him about the destruction of publi and private land but he sped on as if we werent there. . People like this put our right to shed hunt in Jepordy. STOP THEM! -
ARE you going back to get the new and improved alberto? Not that he wasn't a Monster allreay! That's a great hunting adventure, it's why we go back, knowing their out there.

We packed in three hours and then found these that afternoon, camped and packed um out in the morning.07'We collected this pile over two days in billy goat country, based from the truck at the rim of a canyon and the rest is bone and worn soles. Also a couple rattler encounters but thats part of the fun in AZ.07' We found these in the previously mentioned canyon 06'. 80% of these horns are whites, But all are in fair condition or better, Trust me, We leave behind allot on these trips. You have to pick and choose what you wanna pack out. It's finding the old ones that drives me , and helps me to find those big browns were all lookin for. Srry if pics are kinda blury, have yet to invest in a good camera. Will make it a point this year though. I don't know if i'm the only one but I incorporate photography into my shed hunting and have 200+ " as they lay" pics. Wish i could share them all but that takes time away from shed hunting! I'll try to carry a good camera cosistently this year though. Happy Horn Huntin. Tires on roads, Boots on trails! Keep Shed Hunting Legal!

I think it just depends on the area. Spots i have, no one has walked in 20years and probly wont besides me.It's a shame to find a 380 set practically dust, but the brown set down the wash makes up for it. Around town hear in Show Low it's a rat race for browns. Although i have found a few whites by town, but not many. March and april are definatly prime for high traffic areas. Luck seems to count around town more than anything. Last summer my little bro found a 380 seven point a half mile from the road, and it was from 06! All U can do is put some holes in your soles. it pays off. More homework, more antlers. I'm averageing 8-14 elk sheds on my out of towners plus a couple muleys and coues usually and sometimes a deer head. But around town, I'm happy to find one shed of any kind in a days walking. U just have to decide how many antlers u want and how hard you're willing to work for them.

Thanks Ron. Jeff and gwen are well. Larry is becomeing an antler addict both for hunting and sheds. Nice Goats Man! hope to get a tag this year, long with everyone else. but as u said, it's all worth it when you draw and fill that tag. Glad you agree! -
Hey guys so ive had nothin but bad luck bow hunting deer the the last 8 years, ive arrowed a pig at 20yds but no bloody deer arrow. However i drew a november rifle tag for muleys in unit 31 last year. The first afternoon we got there we raced to beat the darkness to a good glassing point were we new we could see 3 waterholes at the base of the mountains going into the juniper flats. also these waterholes were surrounded by oaks produceing accorns. luck finally seemed to be turning as we glassed 12-13 does feeding arround the oaks near the closest hole at 450yds. we watched them for ten minutes with no sign of a herd buck, then doubled back over the hill and back to camp with our flashlights. We decided to return to our glassing point before dawn. The same group of does crept out of the cover and began feeding at the same hole. Only this time there was a good buck with them. The wind was gusting up and across the mountain at 25mph and i feared missing at our current 450yd downhill shot. We waited and waited but they stayed there, eating playing and doing deer things. An hour went by enjoyiong the nature movie but i got restless,. We turned our radios on and i began to ease down the mountain while my dad kept sight of him and would warn me if they saw me. I made it down about a hundred yards and ran out of cover. I signalled my dad to follow while i kept watch on the herd and nice buck. we leap frogged if you will. He got to my side and ranged them at 325yds. This i felt confident in with the scoped 308savage, regardless of wind. We set up for the shot with our sticks , then out of no-where the dear spooked and scattered into the flat in between us and the waterhole. they regrouped and ran right towards us! My dad then spotted a coyote at the waterholes bank. They were now closeing fast and we lost sight of them on the hillside below us. I got worried and my dad signaled me to move towards their direction and be ready to shoot. I looked for them on the left, on the right , nothing. My dad caught up and thought they had stopped not Knowing where to run. They had a coyote on one end and hunters on the other. We Began stalking to the middle of the mountain. Out of no where the buck appeared from behind a tree with three of the does, a mear 60 yds. I set up on a boulder while he stood broadside stareing at us, in a pickle. I put the crosshairs on him and squeezed it, CLICK! Nothing. I freaked he was looking right at us. " Easy, easy, just reload" as motionless as i could i chambered another round and put it back on him .Squeeze, BAM! He rared up and dropped. The does stood there a second and bolted. I got him! An inch high due to the range, But a solid Lung, and heart shot. We got to the buck, i was in aww. Ive put in so many houirs and miles and now i had my buck. A solid 3x3 with double eye gaurds good length, symetry, mass and height. I'm tickled to death, yes I'm mounting him. How could you not with a solid first buck? This was the memory of a lifetime for me and pops. A hunt to remember. Thanks Dad and God.

Ive found browns with blood on them as early as Valentines day and as late as End of April here in AZ. Generally most Shed hunters will agree that march is prime dropp time for 75% of deer and elk. I Horn hunt year round however March is definately the most productive for fresh browns. A generall rule of thumb is the big drop first, the small last.

AZantlerhead replied to AZantlerhead's topic in Shed Hunting
thanks. My friend that showed me the area also has a set from this bull, cept he grew into an 8x8. I havent scored them cause he put them in a chandeliere but i imagine he was round 415. this bull has a ton of mass from all that stuff. Would you call those typical or nontypical? i'm getting varied feedback on that question. and where should the 4th mass messure be taken @? theres also a couple more of his probable sons like that around there so i'm really curious. -

Hey guys thanks. Well we both had a big set o browns and a couple singles from spring07 the rest were all worth packing out. We always leave some whites where they lay and often I'll set down a big chalky in trade for somethin better, they make good markers and to some extent the sheds have a meaning to the animals too, i believe in harvesting not rapeing. just depends how the day is going.Course this set was 24 1/2 lbs. by them selves

This 6x7 set was laying about 10yds apart going up a hill. the 7 point measures 174" and the six side with the broken g-1 measures158 with a 40 spd i put it around 372 without the broken i think he'd of grossed 385-390. I'll be hot on that bulls sign this march.among the other monters in this area. My antler huntin buddy Jason was with me on this weekend trip. we both left the area with 60+ pounds of horn tied to our packs. Also found my first bear skull that weekend that measures 18 3/4. This is my biggest set and antler to date. nov 07
