Right on, Maybe I could tag along with you some day. I'm the same way, When I finally found a nice elk head last year I dropped to my knees and felt that same rush, it took me forever to find one. I'd be happy to show you some country as well. I'll pm you this march maybe we could make an outing. It would be one for the allbums for sure! For me it would be like playing catch with a Star Quarterback. I'm really wanting to find a big ol' couesy head ! To be with someone who finds a big treasure is just as cool . Every hero needs a sidekick. PLLLLLLEEEEEAAAAASSSSSEE!! I got an orange shirt ready to go, Yeah, Ive been wearing the orange on some outings for a while, it hasn't hurt, that's for sure

I know, it's like waitin on christmas as a kid for me nowadays. or maybe more like the easter egg hunt for those that are hopelessly infatuated with finding a horn, off the one that got away, or one who's never been seen, or one who just didn't make it through and died in all his glory. Can't wait to see what the woods will hold for us all this spring.Good luck Jim, and best of luck to everyone else who's fortunate enough to make it out as well! Justa layin out there on the dang Ol'ground man boy I telll ya what, yup, uh-huh Danged old , Cool man!!....

I asked my friend and shed hunting partner if I could post a pic of a day he had last month. He obliged and agreed to give you guys a teaser pic of his phenominal shed hunting.Comeing soon to video. He's carrying a total of 15 sheds and a elk head! Also a pic of us last year {so you can see him, he's on the right.}, we found those in only 6 hours of looking, about 16. I can vouch for my friend about the haul he had to make with that pack, He's a frigin mule! Not that I have too, he's the most honest person I've met in a long time. He then slept at the truck and went back the next day, Hauling out 10 more not pictured. He's since made 3 trips to that place, it's pretty dry now but you can still come up with a couple. Just wanted to introduce Him. He's extremely humble about his shedin trips, Why I'm posting for him. He hopes you guys like it.

You got a once in as lifetime find twice, I'm willing to bet you come up with another as well, way to go Monstrous heads Josh. This will only be my fourth year out, I hope I can last 20, you the man. My biggest coues head so far is only 90 but i'm happy with that, Especially since my cousin slept 20 feet from it for two hours It was great. My heart would stop I think walkin up on those freaks!

If by the country you mean as far away from roads, camps and such then yeah. Most of the honey holes we hit take about 4-6 hours to reach, then the remainder of the day spent actually shed hunting and then most the next day to get back to the truck with our packs. We have some "day trip" places but mostly we make it a 2 day event when time and money allows. Usually the more effort it takes to reach the place, the more productive it can be, Usually. I've had afternoons by town where we've came up with 5 or so a piece but not many. And yes we've been skunked in those far off places too. I've also learned where Not to go.If we get our 15 count back to the truck it's considered a successful outing. But as allways, one is better than none, and even the 0 count days are allways days enjoyed in the wild. So shed hunting is allways a win-win sittuation in our eyes.. Days getting skunked makes the good days that much more memorible.

This will be my goal for the year, to have a day like this.......

Has anyone else ever wondered???
AZantlerhead replied to coueschaser3's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Little to nothing to hunt? Fresh dropped brown season is bearing down my friend, not to mention the world record everything that died this winter It's not exactly the same rush finding something as killin it, but dang close!! Slow season, ha! Like opening day for me, on everything. -
Deleted, I forgot how many people read this stuff I guess. Small world. I forgot about the select few others that stomp those grounds, my appologie Redneck.

Aplications & the Economy
AZantlerhead replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Thanks for the reminder theres still deer! I'm pretty much heart broke I can't afford to put in for Elk & Antelope this year. If I can muster it by summer I will go out of state and BUY myself an elk hunt. I am wondering what's the reason G&F needs our money 9 months before the dang hunts start? Is this common practice in other states for lottery tags, I mean, they don't even have last years success rates out till you get results back for this year anyway, slackers in my opinion? I think it's a crock personally, but i'm just bitter I have 0 chance of elk hunting this year in AZ after putting in the last 4 with no luck. Bonus points are useless too me right now, besides that talking to other hunters it seems the bonus system doesn't work anyway, one guy puts in the first year and gets a tag, the other for 12 and still nothing, ya-know?. I think i'm just mad enough at G&F and myself too save up the money by summer and go else where.Up here in Show Low theres annualy little work in the winter especially with the economy. I'm just SOL as they say. Hopefully I can find myself another elk head this year with the " majority" of hair not on it. And go elk hunting some where else. This will be a hard lesson in money management for me!!! Hey Redneck, I may know you if that name is tattoed on you. is it? -
I go to 31 every year and hope to find the one on Mt graham some day, is it on a road? The one in the picture i see about 20 weekends per year. And i've stuck it, and yes missed it too.

My Lord, that is absolutely ... uh uh, I don't think theirs a word to do it justice. Congrats again, to the fullest!!!!!! How do you sleep at night with that in the house? I'd be sufferin from insomnia with that to look at! I can't believe you got you'r 08 mount back allready. I'm still waitin on my nov 07 buck! I'm jealous in every way, way to go man!

What to look for terrain wise...
AZantlerhead replied to TEmbry's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I've been into Topos for years and hate going in the woods without one. I'd say 8 times out of ten I can pick out likely Bedding, water, & feeding areas and Locate whatever i'm lookin for. But the only sure way is to be out there in it. Hikeing, reading sign, Glassing and of course shed hunting. That's also the biggest weapon in my shed hunting arsenal, a good topo. My friend that makes my shed hunting look like child's play never uses them though, so to each his own. But I'll tell ya this. He was going to this honey hole some old timer told him about for years, and absolutely scoring on sheds.Upon aquireing the secret name of the place and locating it on our topo I'd printed up for the trip it became evident. The actuall place the old timer told him about was ten miles north !! So we went to the real location and saw the herd of bulls the old man spoke of. 25 bulls strong !!! at the end of Feb, and were lucky enough to get on them in their bedding area. Never got a chance to go back yet, but it's 12 miles from any road and I think there will be some sheds laying there come aprill. I'll let you know. If all goes well 25 bulls make 100 antlers in 2 seasons................... We should come up with one or two .Well im just rambling on, I'll let you know. Ohh yeah, Moral being I used the map to find the " secret legend" heard of bulls the old man spoke of. Very Handy, a good map. That's for sure! And some time on google pre scouting and even printing up the image to take afield is a huge advantage. -

Well, your very Welcome , to all you trapping buffs, as well as anyone who like myself loves our rights that day by day are decaying and vanishing before our very eyes. I say your welcome for bringing it to everyones attention the importance for the General Public, Our Sportsmans community and anyone who likes Freedom to support Trapping for future generations. It's a great american pastime shared by friends and family and a huge part of the settlement of the West, and American History. I hope I won't need a liscense to antler hunt on private ranches in the future, after being outlawed from state & federal lands. Thanks to all for filling me in " all about trapping". and eat my shorts to anyone who got offended at me bringing up this subject in the first place . I'd say I was right , at least once in a blue moon anyhow . It's an Important topic and one that needs our support. Thanks Amanda, for seeing that though nieve on the subject, I knew it's importance, interest by sportsman, and a need to support it. And thank's to everyone who shared there honest opinion, or ETHIC. HAHAHA

My Pops and I have allot of points on antelope and elk and were considering puting in together for our "dream hunt". How will our bonus points work? Or would it be favorable to just apply for the same hunts on different apps? I've heard many things but want the advice and opinions of our resident Outfitters, thanks. Also were interested in guiding 27 & 1 this fall. My dad's been liscensed awhile and I'm looking to cut my teeth. Thanks again, Dustin Luper
