Sorry about your personal experience with a not so friendly G&F officer, I've never ran into one of those here, I'm sure they are just like the masses of regular people though, and theres just a few that are bad people deep down. I've allways found law enforcement of any kind here in AZ to be some very cordial folks, in their job and on a personal level. It's obviously to the point where it's very crowded on AZ hunts, just like most places and Blaze orange should be warn or mandatory? Getting shot would just down right be a bad deal, especially with a broadhead. I'm very sorry to here of your close call. Glad ya'll are ok. That's scary stuff!! Scary knowing theres "hunters" that would do that

Those are some great pics and bucks!!!! your grandpa looks like a good fellow

Do you have any pics of the "other" sheds we talked about? Once again those sets are awesome, great finds!!

Awesome!!!!!!!!!! He'll be an even bigger Stud this year as he was the past two I see. That's a bonefied borderline booner typical right there. May one of us bag him this year. I'll shake your hand if you do and know you would do the same, SMALL world sometimes, very small. Hope you get him but I won't pass him up if I see him in oct. I'm pretty sure I'll be to the west of that spot again though,. Heck, I hope you get him. Theres a few big ones to go around in there anyway, as you know. Can't believe you could scout that area today, wish I could. Awesome man!! Keep Scoutin umm till I get down there k, jk . Looks like I'll be hunting in the same area as your protogets' too. I'll pm you some pics, the ones you sent me are AWESOME. Thank's for not being possesive of the area and being so cool about it.

I've never actually visited that monster mulie site either. CWT.com baby!! yes we do like mulies here too though. But we definately LOVE them Coues Funny you mention that me and casey are allot alike in our writeings, we said the same thing . aint that right Casey, buddy.lol -
Yes BigBFever that about sums it up, even a rookie like me knows the basics. There in every good book, one just needs to apply them.
-
Srry BigBFever, I have never ben that far south, But take the n't off of all those don't 's and that's what work for me. I would delete my little outburst but someone has quoted me and recommended their personal favorite E-pharmacy for some reason. To conquer Buck Fever? Funny someone knows where to find that info................ Guess were all a little sick with Coues Fever around here.

In case people are wondering ,I think Casey and I have made ammends?as we both recieved pms basically saying we are both idiots betwixed umm. I hope so, Maybe we can both grow up a little according to others. I guess I should just stop talking about my first coues, But it's the only Coues I've shot and try to relate the buck and that hunt to whatever topic it's relevant. No more though. srry If I came across as bragging, I'll try to get another coues to talk about for the next year lol . Maybe a spike, so I won't have this problem, of being proud of my buck and shareing it with others whenever I can. I'm done guys, My first coues, 117, is ancient history now............................................................................. ................................................................................. ................................................................................. ................................................................................. ................................................................................. ................................................................................. ......................................................................... well if'n I ever get it mounted I'll share it one more time k. -
What contributes most to harvesting MONSTER BUCKS
AZantlerhead replied to coues7's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Before you start back peddling, denying the "arrogant or tooting your own horn" Remeber this.. You WERE arrogant, you were tooting your own horn to an EXTREME level. Saying your not lucky, your good after you kill ONE COUES DEER... Eat that humble pie, hunt hard, and kill a buck you want to kill whether it be a 130" 10x11 nontypical, A 80" 3x3 who has awesome mass, or is super wide, or a dang spike that is going to make a nice steak or two. But PLEASE have a HUGE slice of humble pie, and quit TELLING people how amazing of a coues hunter you are. IF you are as "good" as you say, the trophies you hang your tag on year to year will do the speaking for themselves and you wont have to say another word but type up the story. That will win you respect more than anything. I was trying to lighten things up with my last reply to your bashing and make light of it and was even gonna turn the other cheek on your last post, but no more!!!!!! I just looked at your profile and it says you just turned 24, 3 years younger than I pretty much.I thought you were at least 40 yrs old by how you were talking down to me this whole time, pretending to give fatherly advice on how to conduct myself . I think you are the one who is being EXTREMELY ARROGANT. Why don't you just go get your own monster buck and stop bashing me and my buck? If you think I have no experience in the field except for last years hunt, you are dead wrong.I probly hike and scout more in a year than you have in your whole life , have studied the habits and movements of mature coues for years before attempting to hunt them, picking up a pile of coues sheds along the way, and usually see bruisers each time out. And just because you shoot the first deer you see on every hunt gives you no right to degrade me for hunting hard and landing a true Monster on my first Coues tag.. All this comeing from a guy who brags about his first being a 80in buck-so what!!, then recently blowing the head off his biggest, good one buddy, woulda kept that to myself. . If I change my name to "FirstCouesWas117" would that make me more or less arrogant? I have great respect for my ellders but since your not and have blatantly dissrespected me, Bug off!!! That's a nice way to put how I feel right now. Eat your own Humble Pie, the whole dang thing!!!! You wanted a pissing contest and you've got it!! I got a long fuse and one helluva bang!! No more Bullying at my expense!!!!!! -

Thanks for the Humble pie Firstcoues. really. I did not mean to come across as arrogant or " toot my own horn" too much or anything, I was simply trying to get it across that I worked very hard and put everything I had into harvesting that buck. And it could work for others and myself again hopefully. It just urkes me a little when I don't get any credit for it...........dismissed at Begginers luck, or luck peroid. Is there no such thing as a good young hunter? No king kong here, or pro coues hunter. Just a young man, cursed by a Big buck, that will try his best to make the majic happen again, believeing he did everything right and can do it again. Yes, your right, I've set myself up for even more badgering if I get a small one or none at all. Seems, I have put most the pressure on myself of course. This is what Bobbyo was saying about competiton within your own mind I guess. I should probly lower my goals to make others feel better and myself if I fail, or just not listen to all this and go Git-R-done. Food for thought, Time will tell............. If he really is my Buck Of A lifetime, or just the first of many........ I'll be happy either way I guess. Ok, Forkie or bust!!! lol , there, I've now set myself up for great success, and tender meat . no wait, spike unicorn or nothin!!!!!!!! Not, 100in will satisfy me, personally. no wait 85, no a straight 3x3, o brother, I'm competing with myself again -

AZantlerhead replied to coues7's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
No was not my first buck, yes it was my first Coues tag and buck. I know what your implying, I'm not stupid, How can a rookie be good? is that What you were really asking?? I have ben the brunt of many sneeres and snickers because of it. It sems some fellas have hunted them for a long time and never figured umm out, or the bigguns anyway. I learn fast I guess, and use tactics instead of wonder if they reall work, and hunt harder than most, and go farther than most and hunt down my quarry like my life depends on it.. I'll never get the credit I deserve for that buck, except from my Dad , until I do it again. Wich is bs, but I can except that, and relish in the opportunity and challenge. Jeeze , I started out lending the tactics I was successful in useing and ended up the bad guy for killing a Big one. People like me though, will take every tid bit of proven advice with a thanks and run with it, use it to make their Coues dreams come true as I did , yes, with my first, people not so like me will probly never get it. I got it right the first time, Big Coues hunting that is. Ohh, in case I never thanked CWT and it's members for lending advice and knowledge on coues deer, THANKS . Definatley contributed to my first Coues being a Stroker. I could also thank a bunch of other sources that filled my thoughts and bag of tricks. But then I was the one out there Working to bring it all together and make it happen wasn't I. Try as people might, they can't take that from me............. Ok, I'm seriously done with this topic and those that believe a big buck is nothin but luck..................... PEACE -
What contributes most to harvesting MONSTER BUCKS
AZantlerhead replied to coues7's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
my last response and i'll let this go but how many times had you seen that deer before you shot it or how many sheds off of that particular deer do you have that is my point there are big bucks in every unit, some people are more skilled than others but even the rookies kill big bucks sometimes. I am not saying you arent a good hunter I am sure you are very knowledgeable as for this topic in particular the more time in the field behind the glasses and yes walking for miles and miles will help but even after locating a big buck before your hunt it is going to be completely different when there are hundreds of other hunters in the field so yes even for the greatest of hunters luck will eventually play a very important part of the hunt. azantlerhead I meant no disrespect toward your abilitys and wish you the best of luck this year I was simply giving my opinion on your post. I didn't see that deer once before I got him, or I woulda shot him then, The shed I found in the wash behind our camp actually just led me to the group of them, or their bedroom anyway, away from the masses of hunters. The location(s) I found on that hunt are just that, where they go and stick once the gunshots/ traffic starts up, or where they would be anyways. They'll be there again, if not, I have a backup plan(honey hole) a couple more miles into the Rough.. . No scouting this year dureing my hunt, just waiting, watching, spotting and shooting(Hunting). None taken my friend, that's what it's all about, shareing our opinions. You are with the masses that say I was just lucky, I hope to prove everyone wrong, I was hopeing to be noted as an accomplished hunter with last years buck, I dedicated that buck to my dad when we did the pics/haul out., For teaching me too hunt and passing on his wisdom- we both got a little chocked up., no joke, and did as he told me to, when I was leaving the camper at 4 a.m that last morning, "Get the Big One" as he knew I had found the group and was sitting /glassing their bedroom the previous two days, and pin pointing their bedroom the first four days of the hunt. It was only a matter of time till they showed and gave me my Shot opp. Who needs luck when your good? I hope this is read as confident and not cocky, cause that's what I'm trying to relate. And the thing about well written books and the tactics there in, or thousands of hours of hunting shows, endless advice from my Dad and other hunters , THEY WORK, along with the priceless time/miles in the field I've put in.. Pro's don't rely on luck. Neither will I, nor did I. ECCLESTIASTES 9:10 -

AZantlerhead replied to coues7's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
That's OK crb, we will respectfully disagree, on this subject anyway.. I know what I did to get that buck......all the things I listed, and was nice enough to share with others of how I got "lucky" . And the shed hunting.........nevermind, we disagree again. . I'm trying to get this topic back on track coues7 but It seems someone else with a booner (or maybe a few of them) needs to chime in as my thoughts/tactics/advice/testimony/tips are dismissed as just luck untill I do it again............ go figure. -

Dustin you got great spirit. It's good to see people not so up tight. You know those big ones are tough eating anyways. Heck , My uncle takes spikes every year and we call him a trophy hunter... Keep the spirit.. Thanks , Now let's get back too............ " What contributes most to harvesting MONSTER BUCKS?" srry, coues7. -

AZantlerhead replied to coues7's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
. I dont mean to be a party pooper or a jerk and I aint jealous you shot a fine buck congrats on that but I say it was pure luck on your part and I for one would like to see you pull another one out of unit 31 if you can do that then in my book you are an accomplished hunter like you say you aim to be. I'll try ...... I suppose the hundreds of sheds I've found are just by luck too, I cant read animal sign for crap ya know.. Please go back and read my first post on the first page of this topic and then tell me it was pure luck........... If you still think that after reading the tactics I used on that hunt, then.. we will simply agree to disagree I'm actually more worried this year about my shooting ability with my muzzy then my ability to locate another booner...... But that's why we hunt, cause nothin is for sure and you just never know, Would that be the " luck" factor? But i'm pretty sure I know where to find umm and know what to do...... But if i don't. I'll just blame it on " bad luck", lol. -

AZantlerhead replied to coues7's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Whoa . lol. No one said a 86 inch Coues isn't a fine mature buck............. heck, my standars before my curse of an avatar was a Spike. Since I had heard from many a man that ANY Coues deer was a trophy, and my father hunted hard for 7 days and brought home a last day spike a year prior as well. I would be one that could congradulate a hunter that shot a specific deer I was after I might add, And people kick deer off cliffs??!! And purposly destroy or damage racks??!! new ones on me . As Hank would say" calm down Bobby, lol" , Since you answered a question topic initiated to probly share tips and common tactics between us with another question, " WHY" I would answer that With the famous answers of because you can, because it's there, why not, Because it's fun, Just because, Theres more meat on a big one, the antlers are bigger, Who wouldn't want their buck noted in history (records), It's good for Conservation, Let the little ones grow, Because coyotes and lions eat allot of the young ones, It's an added challenge etc. etc........... Of course on the last day this year I'll have no problem shootin a spike ;)Would have the first day last year maybe..... . I understand that It's not all about inches and eigths. But since this topic is................................ Any tips on Getting a BBD??? I know with all your years of experience you gotta have some......... C'mon Bobby, you BIG GIANT DEER SLAYIN MACHINE< compliment!!!!!! lol C'mon buddy, your holding out, I know you are. Anyone have any tips too share on late season calling useing rattleing/grunts? I've heard this works on Coues like it can on the easterns. Wanted to try it this Jan. Is there a doe in estrus scent on the market for Coues? Or one that's eastern that would work in the coues rut? -

I Agree with your idea as well that a monster would be a 110 plus, Maybe even a 100 inch buck since no whatter how old bucks are most will barely ever reach that size100-110. Maybe now you see the pressure I (or someone like myself) would put on myself to match last years pretty much, so people won't tell me it can't be done often, and I can prove to myself and whoever else that it wasn't just luck.?. I want to be one of those accomplished hunters that bags a booner every year or close too it, with whatever weapon I can. Maybe I'm setting myself up for a let down, Even though the hunt itself is what I cherish most, not the rack .Maybe I'll be a Top notch coues hunter after a couple more seasons? . It would be terrible to think though that I'll never bag another booner size buck117g/113n, like must hunters have told me. Everyone would assume I just got lucky, when that's not really the case. Allthough I do thank God none the less. But I'm a firm believer that God helps those who help themselves. We'll see if everyone is right that by by getting a booner for my first, ruined me as a coues hunter or not. We'll also see If I get something similar this Oct General season with my muzzy or in Jan with my bow, I hope so Or at least once more in this lifetime!!! . One can only dream, set goals and work towards them. Back to the technical, I think Hunting hard, whatever that personally means too you, doing your best, giving your all, and then some maybe. At least we'd all hope the biggest ones are taken by the most dedicated, not allways the case. I'm one of those that actually deserved one though. I hope there are more to come............... or maybe I should just quit now........................ YEAH RIGHT. HEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEE bucky, Bucky , BUCKY> lol.
