An Old "unspoken" law omungst Hunters passed down from time to time that is dyeing I guess. I've learned it from others and believe it though. Good luck on your hunts, Johny your on that list of notellums, . lol . But when you can keep a secret from the masses I'll tell ya a real good spot to kill a buck. Notellum Canyon is the best spot in the world anyways These guys are full of it, there ain't no deer in 31 But if that's how you feel johny, what is the exact spot you will be hunting so I can make a New Topic to tell hundreds of folks about it who are interested in reading about 22 and many of whom need a spot to kill a buck in that unit, this year. So What's the name of your favorite honey hole huh? the one your counting on to fill the freezer? . That's what's just happened here for someone, I guarantee it. Would feel pretty S$#!^? huh. You've got some good places to look now BearDown, Not!!! So do a hundred other people!!!!! That's how little cities spring up in the good places dureing hunting season. Eventually have campgrounds, picnic areas, parking lot's, and etc. etc..........It's sad. I can see the look on the old mans face now, sitting his "secret tank" opening morning and some dude walking up spooking his buck talking about how he read about the tank/canyon/saddle etc. on a public Internet post, said it's the best spot for the unit !!!! .

Swordfish, Simply click on NEW TOPIC instead of ADD REPLY. Fill in the blanks, scroll down, click on add new topic and Voula!! Welcome!!!! BTW, TOO ALL listing particullar places in certain units on the public forum, IT'S NOT VERY NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU MAY BE WANTING TO HELP one hunter, but at the the same time your sending god knows how many others to those places. If you must tell someone, tell just them, not the whole world. I.E Use the personnal messageing!!! when speaking of exact locations. LOOSE LIPS SINK SHIPS. It's a free country but come on......... I've got a list I'm gonna keep of all you blabber mouths. The List will be titled, " People to Never Ever tell about my spots, because they will invite the whole flippin world to join me". It's just a no-no, not a cool thing to do!! IMO

I've ben watching those channels for a long time and I too was in disbelief of where and how some people get their quarry. Allot of good knowledge and tips in those shows kept me watching though. After maybe 1000 of those shows I've come too this... Just as there are all walks of hunters and how they hunt, there is the same diversity in the hunting shows. Take it with a grain of salt, I'm just happy the anti's haven't ben able to ban the shows and channels. Fair Chase is different in everyones minds, that will never change !!!!. All we can hope is that we back eachother knowing we are all after the same goal of spending time outdoors and filling our tag and freezer, then maybe some antlers for the wall and some great memories regardless of a kill or not. We are blessed to live in AZ where we actually have public land and aren't forced to hunt in ranches, pay leases and kill only certain animals our guide instructs us too ( just to be able to huntaround home). Yes some of those hunts are more like shopping then hunting but ohh well, to each his own. We all eat at KFC and get our beef from a grocery store too. Anyone that's totally against the "easy" hunts and believe they should be illegal needs to kill there own "Free range" chickens and own a cattle ranch/lease to " hunt" there own beef, & make a trip to the sea and catch their own tuna as well. Different strokes for different folks, Yes it's shocking to see how "easy" some hunts are. But so is ordering a double cheesburger. I'll work hard for my venison though, but those are my standards. I catch myself shakeing my head sometimes too dureing those shows. Not to cry out" aww poor deer never had a chance" but just shakeing my head in amazement of how " easy" it is to kill a buck in some places versus others. Truth be told, allot of people would fold under the conditions of a " tuff" hunt or just not even attempt one. And guys like you and me will never be caught hunting a high fence ranch because of our PERSONAL standards. Again, too each his own, were all hunters, All after the number one goal of killing our game. However the guy next to me does it is up to him, And how/where I hunt is up too me. Blessed we are to have that right. Theres just no truly "fair" way to kill game, unless done with your bare hands!!!!! But we being humans that walk upright, have thumbs and use weapons, well that's why were on the top of the food chain I guess. To make hunting trully "fair" for the animals we would actually have to be a mountain lion, bear, bobcat, coyote etc. We have the advantage being humans period, as God Intented. So don't worry if other hunters put in max effort or the min, use a 1500 dollar compound or a yard sale recurve.. Our " Game" allready lost "the game" a long long time ago, I think in Genesis. I've ben rambling this whole time so I'll shut up now....

Ohh yeah, try Notellum Canyon, Secret Spring, and Honey Hole Knoll. If that doesn't pan out just go to Bunch 'O' Bucks Ridge or Crouching Coues Hidden Saddle Better yet Brown Gold Creek or Boone & Crocket Mountain . Just to name a few. No, I'm just Couesin you. You will find the most deer/bucks around the little known Holly Grail Gulch.

Welcome to CouesWhitetail. 31, It's a good unit. Even though you didn't ask for exact spots, you got umm . That good ol' reverse phsychology. Nicely done. Come on guys, just because your willing to tell one fella doesn't mean you gotta tell the whole web. two letters, PM. To answer your direct question, I see the most Coues deer in 31 or any unit for that matter at about 6,300 ft. Give or take 1000. That's just me though

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM I've had bear(s) sneek up on my backside to 20 ft in broad daylight just like a house cat stalkin a mouse. Wake me up countless times in the middle of the night at 10-20yds. Standoff myself, pitbull, and gun with no fear whatsoever. Umm had a Sow circle me at10- 15 ft. for 5 minutes, talk about a rush, the kind where you fear for your life to be exact. ummmmmm Had one block my trail for a few minutes while he decided to attack or retreat. Enough cave man OOGA BOOGA and knife waveing made him lose interest and Bearly move to the side of the wash so I could continue my trek. Bears aren't BEARY SCARY untill that crap happens to you!!!! Just be prepared. Some people are bear magnets!!!! . Take precautions to avoid them, but don't count on it. Like I says, Be prepared. I havent had to pull the trigger in defense, but very VERY close too it, most people would have unloaded in the run-ins I've had with those cute fuzzy teddy bears . Stand your ground , to show your fear would be bad news I think. Bad News Bears are no fun. On the other hand my buddy has walked more miles and camped under the stars twice what I have with no aggressive bear encouters. Go Figure .

YUP YUP!!!! Awesome advice. A. Find isolated canyon/water source with good sign "fresh". + B. Glass and watch your " hidden spring(s)" from dark to dark. + C. Shoot Buck comeing/going to spring. = Backstraps. Sounds easy right? It's not but hope that helps a little. Wishing you a great hunt Hope I can git-r-done this year too. WATER is our friend. "Honey Holes" are truthfully centered on "Water Holes" , It's code talk

Well done!!!! Or medium rare shall I say, little guy's bringin home the backstraps, AWESOME!!!

My pops and I have been discussing the same idea for a couple years as well, " measureing by, volume+spread" either useing water or sand methods with calibrated tanks and such. I think it would fully be a more acurate system of how " Big" antlers are, or how much space they take up. It would be measured to the nearest cubic centimeter maybe? The only thing we can't figure is how to measure them in a tank while attached to the skull, sheds would be easy. Then ,the average guy would not have calibrated or" special sand" and calibrated tank/scales/material and be familiar with formulas of volume displacement. Then you would have to pre soak the antlers for water methods. Then the antlers would" grow" in water, there goes the 60 day drying period. I think sand methods would be the most practical, I won't go into all the details but weve pretty much figured it out and sounds like you have too.Would be cool wouldn't it. When core samples are taken for construction applications, back at the lab you are doing tests that determin the compaction or air voids etc. etc. (weather it be concrete, asphalt blah blah blah) and the only way to do that involves measureing the Volume of the core sample , It's simple math formulas, down to thousands- hundreds- tenths of cubic inches etc. It would be cool if they were measured like Motorcycles in CC's/ cubic centimeters, IMO.

I may be wrong, but Deer need water every-day just like most every other large mammal. I've never thought otherwise anyway. But again I may be wrong. Havent ben able to get a trackin Bug on one of those Couesers yet , they're sneeky.

Happy Birthday Your wisdom is second to none, you remind me of an intellectual John Wayne of sorts. I'm jealous of all that have shared your camp. Your the kind of man we all look up too.
