I propose a new scoring system!
AZantlerhead replied to SilentButDeadly's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
There would then be a deduction for trail cam use too? . It's a thought Silent, until someone "helps" you kill the next big thing, then you won't like it. Is an animal " smaller" if someone helps you? hmmmm, I dunno buddy. I understand where your going with this, especially concerning the Spider Bull. But a WR like that bull deserves no lost credit just because he was tag teamed by 20 dudes. Maybe there should be a seperate category for the use of professional guides? But what if it was just you and a friend or relative? Food for thought.............Interesting topic Thinking on this more there would then be deductions for anything that ups your odds. High power optics, Range finder, super high performance rifle and scope, the claw, a treestand or blind, camoflouge, a spotter while you fling bullets, scent products, the list would go on and on, ............. it won't fly. P&Y is pretty harsh on their fair chase rules concerning your equipment and sci has a category for high fence, so it's kind of in affect allready. Should the gov. tag animals be thrown out? The more you spend with an oufitter usually transfers to the caliber of your trophy but he's still gotta shoot straight. I'm sure the Owner of the spider bull gives most the credit to the team, but he probly worked hard to afford it and shot true so........... Definatly interesting -

I hope we didn't spoil him
AZantlerhead replied to lionhunter's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Awesome teamwork and go get umm attitudes, I know the frustration of not being the shooter and being the spotter and haveing to help the shooter put the crosshairs on umm too . SWEET!!! Yes he's spoiled, as I was until haveing a small forkie down after missed opps on monsters and finally filling the freezer after a long grueling hunt this year. -
Out for my Dads late bull hunt we had shot opps on many nice coues bucks at very close range, go figure, the bulls were super alert and skidish though, even the ones still hangin with the cows? A couple nice bucks with the girls and allot of really fresh rubs, also some big bucks still grouped up and loner bucks cruising the trails hard in search of early nookie. It has started somewhat. Really looking forward to this archery season!!! Their letting there guard down allready . I believe the cold is a factor as well. Never hunted the rut before, I can't wait!!! +1 They are definatly feeling there oats.

No Kidding!!!! Awesome Buck, don't worry theres lots of hunters that run through a half box of bullets on an animal, and still don't drop umm. Well done!!
-
Nope, srry my friend I don't have umm. Thanks for packing out my sheds and showing my Dad some country while I tended to the horse last weekend man, really . Found another big coues head in better shape and some horns off a bull I know you got some more too though. Post umm up when barney and fred get back from flintstone photo shop. That 7x set is Awesome!!
-
I took note of your shed glassing( also my fathers technique for locateing big elk sheds) and glassed a few up recently too( guilty of shed hunting while "hunting"), along with a bunch I tripped over . Yes, the pics will stink and most are chalkies but I'll post umm up soon anyway. So lets see umm !!

Is this a wolf or hybrid?
AZantlerhead replied to bowhuntaz1's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Hybrid, a domesticated one. A stray or a Feral. My guess. Lot's of "wolf dogs" in N. az., probly a pet,or a pooch without a porch. -
I'm gonna say 125? That's not luck, that's a great spot, good genetics in the herd, a guide that can spot umm, and a hunter that can shoot. Well done!! What a Piggy . He was probly "lucky" to have a wife to let him go to mexico to get grocerys though. Let's see, 70lbs meat divided by $3000 , whoa. She's braggin to her friends too!!

OK Cory, I was gonna keep Mr. GAGGER a secret till I stick it to him, or you, but ohh well. Just kidding bro. But you were gonna kill a 110 and a particular one( of wich you have many sheds from)and only him, But that was before I told you where the 130 was hideing in Your area. Now our area, lol. . Don't mention it buddy. But not like u didn't know allready. lol And, I'm glad you confirmed I wasn't hallucinateing and sorry you missed him, that cactus come out ok lmao!? I'll call you tomorrow. At least you got a shot at him, I was too busy first literally asleep then literally throwing up to get one off. Hope one of us bags him before he dies of a busted neck from totin that head gear . But as you know I got an itchy trigger finger and shot the first one I saw just to have another deer under my belt on day six, fearing tag soup, that's even after missing another book buck on day 5, dang , should have fouled my smoke pole!! Dough!! My theory is be ready for the next Big thing, patricularly the next rival ML or Archery world record class buck to present itself. And shoot the little dude if it makes you happy. Also, don't let nay sayers( Casey) get your hopes down and let you doubt yourself and your spot that a gagger kind of opportunity ( a world record or just a GIANT period ) could just well pesent itself, maybe two years in a row, ten feet the same spot. Maybe even opening day, in the middle of the day . Don't get caught with your pants down in other words. Dough! And like I says, shoot the small one if it floats ur boat . CRB, you are a true trophy hunter, takeing " the one" or nothing. I'm still torn between that and filling a tag and freezer. But now with a forky out of the way maybe I can go back to getting Another buck of a lifetime, maybe. To answer your question directly Trophy hunting Bob . I'll let you know when he's on the ground how big he is. Cause I don't know yet I've yet to arrow a deer but I consider haveing a shot opp. with any weapon to be equally a challenge just the weapon and tag in hand seems to matter the most and setting up accordingly. You can miss at 200-300yds with a rifle at 150 with a ML or 35yds with a bow, it's all the same. All requires the same effort and preparedness to be in position in the right place at the right time, for a forkie, a 100 a 130. or Maybe a 117. Be ready and shoot straight Whatever YOUR trophy is. Mine this last season is a hard earned forkie, of Humble pie porportions next season who knows. I found out I'm not a true trophy hunter yet, From screwing up my chance at the ML world record and bagging a forkie late in the hunt after missing a Big Mature buck for lack of knowing my weapon.. That's hunting I guess. Yes Cory, you messing up on Mr. GAGGER as well makes me feel a little better, I won't lie. . But I'd feel even greater if you bagged him knowing I helped a little . Heres to another season ahead of us. Let's get him!! Or maybe his little brother, oops- did I say that?

Hope you have an awesome B-day Man . Hey maybe your gettin old enough to give me full rain over your honey holes?? Nice thought anyway. . another 30 yrs maybe? . Lmao

My First Giant Coues Buck!!!
AZantlerhead replied to ScottAdams's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
You guys snuck over to Texas huh ??!! . Seriously, What a Magnificent Coues Buck !!!! Congrats -
Str8Shot, very well said. Every bit of it. Matches my views exactly. Mason, srry that someone tampered with your cam. There is allways much to be learned on this website, Of Coues Deer, Hunting, Other Hunters and maybe even yourself. On a Positive note, I left my climber in a tree for three weeks on top of a Mountain very near Show Low ( Set up for a little known isolated Coues Herd) this last early archery, It was not tampered with or stolen. Thanks

Wicked Horns, that's really really COOL!! Will SCI except it? What a Freak!

PRICELESS!!!!!! That captures the essence of the hunt. I remember saying those same words to my father. Doesn't get any better. Awesome post!!! Congrats!!

AZantlerhead replied to Dodgerboy999's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
So I've ben wondering, is this buck going to be the new typical P&Y/SCI world record archery??? Maybe I missed this info? -
Happy B day bro, Change ur avatar allready.
-
I like Chevy's , for the record. Feeders huh..... Not gettin in this one, is the same as the water and salt one obvioussly.
-
I don't know bout you guys, but I'm useing cover scent, doe in heat scent, makeing a mock scrape, rattling, calling, wearin a carbon/ gillies suit, have my rifle sighted to 2000 my bow to 100, have tank pierceing ammo and arrows that explode with C-4, a scope as big as my Lab ,a spotter bigger than my great dane, I got's infared and night vision for early morning scouting, got my new zippo size ranger with ballistics range out to 10 miles and weather report. not to mention my real time cams on the ten water holes and feeders set up every hundred yards that go off like a sprinkler system and dispurse pure antler hormones mixed with romaine lettuce and steroids, got me a Hellicopter for packin umm out and a sushi chef to field dress umm , To top it all off got me a Bazooka and a 20 ft Titanium alloy cage to hold umm still sos I can make a good clean shot And I'ma gonna get the next a one gold platted instead of stuffed !! Just kidding. We can use all the tricks/ gear / bait we could ever imagine but It doesn't mean spit, cause hunting is still more of a sport then goin to BurgerBarn for a sack o grease. Allthough sacks of grease are yummmm . AWW poor deer, never had a chance. Brought to his death by a little salt deemed " not fair chase" by some. I don't think so. Like Gino and Hank say, need a coalition to end all coalitions. B&C never had a right to define " fair chase" in the first place. Should have ben more like rules for thier club. I've thought long and hard and theirs no way for a human to Fairly kill another animal cept with his bare hands. It's just where we fell at the top of the food chain haveing thumbs to make weapons and brains to develope more efficient ways to kill umm. Fair chase should be a personal matter seperate from the laws that keep us safe and keep herd numers in check, Not how fair of a chance dinner had to get away and if the hunter was at a better advantage, of course the hunter is at an advantage!!! since caveman and trying to make it easier ever since!!!! Fair chase should be a personal standard in between you, God and your quary. Could care less wether someone hunts with an F-18 fighter jet or a slingshot, or hunt in an indoor arena or trek across Africa. Backstraps are backstraps. Wack umm n stack umm live on. "Salt isn't fair chase" ......More funny anti infilltration talk.........
