I can't wait! Through some creative scheduling and an understanding wife, I have come with 14 days to hunt this tag. I have hunted here before and have my spots, but if you want to PM me with areas I should look at, I will gladly entertain suggestions. Don't worry all the little bucks are safe on this hunt. Merry Christmas!

I asked Dave the same question when I picked up a spotter from him in June. I was looking at selling my 10s&15s and going to the 12s. He said absolutely I should and I couldn't be happier. If you spot something you need to get a closer look at, you need a spotter instead of the extra 3 power 15s. You can hand hold 12s for close work. Go 12s and don't look back. After each day of glassing I am amazed at how awesome the binos are. -
6A late hunt (updated w/ story)
rugerman replied to rugerman's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Glassed this buck up before sunset on opening week from a mile out. I didn't have enough daylight to make a run at him. After returning to work for several days, I was able to get back at it. After 3 more days of glassing I found him again running with the same doe. 1.5 miles across two 300' deep cuts and an hour 15 minutes later I was getting close. I realized halfway over that I had forgotten my binos so I had that going for me. I snuck around the ridge into the valley they were in and ranged the hill I had last seen them on 271 yds. I attempted to find them with the scope in the fading light, but was losing hope fast. 40 yds away the doe steps out and sensing something, investigates coming within 10 yds. Finally realizing her mistake she snorts, stamps and flags and moves out. I stand still and keep looking for the buck and he steps out at 40yds right where the doe did. 130gr of TTSX from the titanium 700 .270 might overpenetrate at this range. He is not blind in an eye, nor did I shoot his eye out, that is the rock I propped him with pushing his eye shut. That was yesterday, today I am having trouble walking with my sore legs. Merry Christmas! -

Feedback - Consolidating 10x and 15x Slc for the 12x50ELs
rugerman replied to scoutm's topic in Optics and tripods
I went to the 12s from the 10/15s and am very happy. I also picked up a spotter that weighs the same as the 15s did if I need more power for a hunt. The 12s are amazing -

A month ago all the caterpillars I drove over and painted the asphalt with were headed north. The last few days all were headed south. What gives? When I say all I mean all, everybody headed the same way. I enjoy driving over them either way

Oh and AZkiller have a great time with my tag!

I too have 18 resident points and know your pain. If I could hunt the entire archery hunt I would do it. I could miss work for a week max, and I worry I would pick the wrong week or be unable to get it done. Then I would think about the time I wasn't hunting when the hunt was on and drive myself nuts. At least my 6A December tag eases the pain this year.

I was torn too. I was thinking that I wouldn't be steady enough to handhold the 12s. Not the case. They are an around your neck bino.
-
I was tired of carrying both. I went to the 12s and picked up an STS 80HD scope. The 12s are ~the same weight as my SLC 10s were and the scope is 4oz more than the 15s.

I have a friend who drew the Dec muzzy mule deer hunt. I was going to loan him my Triumph. Maybe you would be interested in working a trade on these brand new Pentax binos? http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/50115-pentax-12x50-pcf-wpii-nib/ Then I could gift him his own gun. You all need friends like me right? P.S. - I tried to PM but your box is full- 15 replies
