I was up in 17B and was on 2 bucks at dawn. Wind was perfect for a stalk, but they were a spike and a 2 point, so I didnt want to mess up my muzzy tag in Oct.

If your going to camp
rugerman replied to ultramag's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I've had people actually try to squeeze in my campsite before...... Also when bear season opened up in 6B somebody was emptying magazines thru a semi auto pistol at 3am. My quad is as quiet as its getting though, not much louder than my deisel -

Guns are nice .... knives are too... picking up a d'holder tomorrow.. this one would make a great gift for your hunting pardners .. not advertising anywhere else. I have 11 BP going into the draw next year. For the past several I have been putting in for early bull and muzzy hunts. I'm getting the itch bad!! Would you burn em all on an archery hunt? Or stick it out? My daughter is 2, I guess if it takes 8 more I could sign it over to her. I also have 3 herniated discs so I'm kinda glad I didn't draw this year. Working hard at rehabbing it. Well harder than Lindsay Lohan How many BPs do you have and what are you holding out for??

And they are only 1.5 oz lighter than the Swaros
-
Nice Glass.. my neighbor has em and they are sweet. To my eyes the color transmission is better than on my Swaros. I was surprised by a couple of things though. First off alot of people with narrow set eyes say they cant get a good view thru the Swaros 15x but they can thru the Duos. On the spec sheets they are both listed as 59mm of minimum interpupillary distance. Second, the field of view is smaller with the Duos on 10x (270 something feet @1000yds) than 10 x 42 Swaros(330 ft @/1000yds) Can anybody explain why this is??? Thanks

Ok I can understand wanting to hunt, but i see someone put in for a limited opportunity hunt with 10 BP????
-
Thanks RR, I called G&F and picked up a 2006 BP analysis(2007 won't be out for a while longer). tjhunt-. Years 1-2 were apps for cow tags, 3-6 for rifle/archery bull 7-10 premium apps. Looking through the BP book it looks like what RR said is true. with 11 BP I could draw pretty much any archery hunt. Or I could continue to hold out for a rut hunt where there are only 25 hunters/unit. I have drawn a deer tag every year(knock on wood) and been on several elk hunts in the meantime. I'm not a purist trophy hunter (several spike deer can attest to that), but I'm not burning 11BP on a cow and I'm not so sure about a hunt with 200 archers either.

Some of those areas you guys mentioned look like premium habitat. I'm always wondering why no coues??

The recoil is substantially reduced. Word of advice....earplugs..... mine are still ringing from 6 years ago. I have a 6.5x20 vx3 on mine and the accuracy is as advertised -
Beautiful buck! Nice tall rack.... My 100" has no brow tines to speak of either and I always think what if???

rugerman replied to Kevin's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Kevin these are the only ones listed on my card from the factory .Is yours the Classic stainless? If so, what did you pick it up for? I've been considering selling mine and they aren't making any more. Anyhow the sweet spots are....150gr bullet Sporter barrel 2.2.....featherweight barrel 2.3......165 gr bullet Sporter 6.4 .........featherweight 6.4 These will be different if you have the Laredo model... shoot straight -
Outstanding!! Nice buck for her first. Congratulations to your young lady!

Muzzeloader Question
rugerman replied to azbownunter22's topic in Muzzleloader hunting for Coues Deer
I have a Ruger77/50 RSO which is the straight English style walnut stock. I've got a Leupold M-8 fixed 3x scope on it. I haven't worked up an elk load yet, but for deer I use 100 gr Pyrodex pellets and Barnes 245gr TMZ Spitfires. Works good for me, 1.5" groups at 130yds. It uses #11 caps instead of 209, although I have a musket cap nipple for it that I haven't tried. It has never failed to ignite the powder as long as the cap goes off. I have failed to get the cap seated firmly enough and that is operator error. I really enjoy the smokepole though. Have fun!! -
Before you get all bent out of shape, I'm not saying you would rip anyone off, I'm just saying those are the kind of deals where people get ripped off...........
-
Maybe it is just the smart a$$ in me ....but why would I send somebody money in the mail to get a dollar for dollar trade????? If you send me 100 ones I'll send you a benji
