    Here kitty kitty kitty!!!

Saw my first cat in 23 on saturday. Glassing for a coues i saw a small white spot almost a mile away so i staired at it for about 5 min. and then it shook its head and stood up. HOOOOOLLLLLY S%#@* its a cat. I ran back to the truck and called my buddy that was fishing a turny at roosy (he has a tag) and it took him 45 mins to get where i was but by then it was too far away. When watching the cat i then found out what hunting experts they really are, he would walk 10 steps, stop behind a bush and sit for 3-4 min. and then do it all over agian.AMAZING animals. While we were glassing a sheriff pulled up and we started talking to him and come to find out he is going on a lion hunt on Wednessday, the cat should still be around that area being that it seemed he new exactly where he was going. The lion had about a 6 foot tail and had the body size of a big mule deer. Dont know if thats big but its big to me....This was just an awsome thing to see so i thought i would share.

    Last day for deer

That sucks about your string, good thing it didnt break when you were at full draw. I have seen the same thing this year with the fawns, its weird how the weather plays a role in how many offspring they can have. I saw a 3x3 with 4 does but one had a bad leg, it looked to be broken. By chance was this in 24B and did one of those does you saw have a bad led?

    Draw Bow Tags?

Dont know if its true, but i have heard that unit 23 will be a draw, i think there should be 2 quotas, one for rifle and one for bow but they have put both together and it goes against archers. I have also heard that they are taking away the december hunt as well, again not sure if its true.

Hi my name is Jeff and i have a problem, i cant seem to get a coues deer with a bow. I have lived in AZ for 2 years now and have been hunting in unit 23 south. I have always hunted the pine trees and I have found plenty of deer but nothing too impressive to take, some forkies, 3x3s but all pretty small so i pass on them. Have any of you guys been successful in the pine trees? Is it time for me to rethink my hunts and start going to open country and spot and stalk? What do you all think? Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Jeff

A22 & D16 tag is what i always got. I used the D16 so i could get a few weeks with my bow just before the rut, A22 tag is for bow only. I hunted in Laguna Mnt area because it is bow only. I dont know much about the B-zones but i can tell you that Laguna Mnt off of sunrise hwy has some really nice deer but you have to put your time in. Look up by the general store where the Pines turn to Sage and then dessert. Every so often you will find a huge Mullie in there as well. Good luck with your slam. Let us know how you do.

    Broadhead Buck

My buddy got this nice coues today in 23. Get this, the taxidermist noticed that there was a hole that went thru the navel cavity and went thru to somewhere in the neck. If you look at the pics you will notice a hole with broadhead scares. This is one tough critter to servive that. How lucky is that to shoot a coues thats been shot before....IN THE HEAD.

    Broadhead Buck

Hey, it was nice meeting you yesterday, i was with Tony at your shop. Thanks for the details, that is just amazing. It sounds as if it hurt him to eat being there was not any fat on him and the broadhead obstructing his throat. WOW Let us know what that thing scores when you have time, it looked like you were very busy. Oh, by the way that blacktail buck is the one in my aviator. Someday i would like to get him scored just for my own personal knowledge. Heres a pic as well.

STOLEN TRAIL CAM IN UNIT 21

Sorry to here that man, This just happend to my buddy in 23. He showed a hunter he just met some cam pics that he had, he believed that guy saw his truck parked on the side of the road and went back after he was gone and took his cam, left his stand but took the cam. Really sad another hunter would do that. My buddy said his name might be "Loui", he was camped in 23 on the saturday the 22nd with a red dodge 4 door truck and another blue ford 4 door deisle truck, he said he lives by the white tanks on olive street. This was the only guy that could have done this.

That could be a 1 1/2 year old deer with great genetics..... you are in 23..... Heck yes, you should shoot him!!! How do you know you won't blow it when a Monster comes in if you haven't killed one yet??? It truly surprises me how many people "pass up" animals larger than what they have already ground checked. I have 5 Coues with a bow..... my first was a forky and my last was a 108 1/8" Gross non-typical. Each buck that I have taken was larger than the last, but now I find myself wondering if I can pass up a buck that is over 100".... .... That would be tough for me. You ought to be happy to have an opportunity at any Coues with your bow and earn your badges one buck at a time. IMO. Welcome aboard! CnS I have taken a few nice blacktails in california just not a coues deer, i here what your saying but i guess im just wondering if i was in the wrong area, i know there are bigger ones in this unit but for the last 2 years this is what i come up with. Thanks for all your replies everyone. I will post some pics when i get one. Meanwhile heres some pics of some blacktails from cali.

I am in a stand. Its load up there and i figure this is the only way to do it. I have tried ground blinds but i like it better up high. Would you take the one in the pic as your first one? He just seems kind of young, 2 1/2 or so. I am out of meat and the year is almost over, but i no how that story goes, during the last week he wont be there????

    T. Ruble..I hear you there. I have yet to see an impressive coues taken in the pines. I have seen some nice ones (80" to 90") while driving to my spot (in the pines), but nothing while hunting. I'll keep in the pines for now i guess, since it is the rut and i will get one. Here is basically what i have been seeing. This came from my buddies cam but this is typical. Nothing bigger. Thanks for your replies guys and good luck.
