Great deer man. Tons of beams and character!

Great video man. Do you think the gun clamp would work on a an Outdoorsmans Aluminum tri-pod? Its not very heavy duty--more for binos but I've wanted to pick one up for a while.

While deer hunting in UT I was mid-day napping and my dad laid this mormon cricket on my face! Theyre about like a mouse! I redeemed myself an hour later. He was snoozing and I shot a rock pile across the canyon with my 300 RUM (+ MUZZLE BREAK!!!) about 2 feet from him. I needed a defibrillator to revive him!

If you blasted the cape Im sure a pedestal or wall pedesatl with a quarter turn will have to work. Im always big on mounting it showing off its best angle or characteristic. This buck laid flat out wide and against my taxis recommendations I went with a straight on, sort of bull pose. I think it looks really cool. I built the pedestal out of old barn wood. If your buck has a lot of mass or good prongs, side views look a lot cooler. I think the buck needs to be super tall or have a great curl for a straight pose. Its really up to you. Any pics of your buck?

We were fortunate enough to get a buck on the last day of the Late Nov season. The full moon made that week tough! There's some pretty cool vapor trail footage off the bullet. The second shot on this deer was so fast that the deer didn't even flinch--just laid his head down and it was over.

My friend Todd was shooting a Win Model 70 .270 I started off with the camo-taped Howa Axiom 25-06. 2nd trip down took my 300 RUM I didn't shoot much!
-
I own a 300 RUM and I just bought a Howa Axiom in 25-06. If its just for deer and antelope, the Axiom is smokin fast in that caliber. It doesn't kick at all but is HEAVY. 14lbs or so I would guess. 25-06 is just a sweet cartridge. Its flat out to 350 or so and under 48" to 600 yds. Great all around gun. Shoot 120 grs at mule deer and all the way down to 90 grs for yotes. Don't buy the camo one though, they nail you for the custom paint!

2008 season.. a year's review
adddict replied to Kilimanjaro's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I love these posts! We should've waited till March when things really cool down-- The offseason is tough on me. Being new to AZ I have been grateful to have drawn tags so quickly but more for the help I've had from guys on this site and others like it. It's great to be able to give/take help to fellow hunters that take it as seriously as we do. RedRabbit has been my compass! Thanks man. I shot this deer the last day of December last year so I counted him for 2008 : ) I also drew an archery elk tag that was a long and exciting hunt. I was able to take this bull and the last day of the hunt. The X-Force and Undertaker made a nice entry. The bull fell and expired within about 2-3 steps. No mule deer on my Utah hunts but my Dad about lost his life after he set this sucker on my face during my nap. I restored some big mmule deer sheds and mounted them on a skull kit. Not from the same deer but they look cool together and the bases and g1s are close enough. The wallplate gives good perspective on their mass and length. Wyoming antelope. -
If i didn't have bad, luck I'd have no luck.

Sorry for cross referencing to another site but I thought it would be easier to link. They are tough buggers! Good news though, this buck was with one doe and was pretty swollen up and smelled rutty. Hopefully the thing will kick in! It's cold enough down there! http://www.monstermuleys.info/dcforum/DCFo...19/1013.html#10

Thanks a lot guys! I appreciate the info/advice/encouragement! I'M HOOKED!

So how much rutting are you seeing?
adddict replied to Redbeard's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
In 34A , nada! Saw 20 does yesterday and not a single buck pushing them. It seems cold enough to get things rolling but i'll give another week and be with the girls again! -
Thanks guys. I agree there is strength in number for sure!

Hey guys-- I am a muley fanatic at heart but lucked out and drew a December 34A tag this year. I hunted har last week and saw 10 deer, including a little 3x4 buck that wasn't too convincing for the first week! I hope you all don't mind me asking for advice but I know how tough it is to draw this tag and I don't plan on pulling another one anytime soon. I have been hunting mostly around Gardner Canyon Rd area and spent the majority of my time in the high foothills/snow level +/- 1000 feet. I saw tracks, a few beds, and the deer mentioned above but nothing to really get my blood flowing. I glassed from ridgetops from daylight to dark and froze my tail off. I did notice that most of the hunters were quite a bit lower in elevation on the range but didn't hear much/any shooting down low. My question is: Am I too high? Are there higher concentrations in the lower, rolling glassy hills or should I put my energy into the higher burns and oak brush to get away from other hunters? I am not asking for GPS coordinates but just a general nudge in the right direction. I personally loved the terrain I have been working but just haven't seen the numbers I was hoping for. I sincerely appreciate any advice you guys can share. Hope to run into a few of you on the mountain! Good luck!
