I would like to thank everyone for their help, the more input I get the better I feel about putting in for the tag. The hard part is scouting, Im way down here in Hereford, so its going to be a 4 day trip or so. But again thanks to all.

Doug, I planned on doing a rifle for a bull, would would be just as happy with a cow. If drawn it will be a first for Elk, hence have no clue what to do. Thanks for the advice.

FALL 2007-JAN 2008 COUES BUCK CONTEST
msgbarney replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Absolutely great bucks -
Very Nice Buck, Great job

We have an extra slot on our elk tag if you want to put in with us. If not, check trhe regs, they have the draw succes rates in them. But remember, if it's easy to get drawn, it's for a reason. I camp when I hunt, but there are units where you can stay in motels if you wish. There are plenty of nights when I wish I had. What's your MOS? I was a 63S stationed at Bragg for 5 years. AC im a 25W.

Well here it is, not trophy but its all I got. Although, I might have it wall mounted, or just eat it all. Always next year. Good luck to all, and congrats to all that harvested those nice bucks this year.

Well this is not the Deer I got but was definitely trying to get to my setup. I went into the woods about 6am this morning and got set up with my bow. About 10 minutes later a white truck came up the road and saw my truck and then backed down the road a bit for courtesy. I watched as the rifle hunter got out and walked down to the edge of the wash about 500 yards from me and out of sight. Not but 10 minutes later...BOOM. I heard the crack of his rifle echo throughout the canyon. I then watched him walk back to his truck. I waited about 10 minutes, and curiosity got the best of me so I went to see. I went back to my truck and drove the short 500 yards and met Dennis. Never met this guy before, and this happened to be his first deer. So I went to help him recover the deer. 415 yards up the side of the mountain it lay by a single oak tree. Man that was a good shot. We drug the deer down and being this his first deer, I gut it for him. I followed him to his house, helped him get it hung in the tree, and skinned the lower half for him, he plans to mount this nice buck. Turns out after that, he showed me a couple of good not well known about spots in 35A, and made a friend. Maybe I will be able to post a pick of my deer prior to the 1st. Good job Dennis Here is another veiw

Grizzly Bear Vs. Caribou
msgbarney replied to KidBowHunter's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I thought the Caribou was doing good there for a minute. -
I was wondering what the trick was, no wonder when I try and get close on a stalk, on this crunchy AZ country, the Deer pin me. You might be on to something Elpepe, "Stalking Socks".
-
Outstanding patience stalking, sorry you didnt get the big one, but still very nice buck taken. Good Job!

Just looking for some help hunting Coues Deer. Just moved here from Kansas, bought my Archery tag and ready for the season. Im having trouble figuring these deer out. I live in Hereford and plan to hunt 35A (its close and I havent scouted any outside that unit). I have scouted all the canyons close by (Miller, Carr, and Stump) and have seen nothing but doe, and little sign otherwise. Are they high/low elevations? Seems when I ask people (mainly border patrol) they are also hunters and very secretive. Im used to pretty predicatable big Whitetails in Kansas, so this will be a hard adventure for me. So any help/advive would be greatly appreciated.

1st huntncoues i was not replying to you, sorry if you felt it was directed that way 2nd scrape&rub, look at a ownership map for se 35a, unless your hunting the river the blm doesnt own that land, so tell your gripes to another agency. furthermore the BLM rangers are out everyday filling truckloads of illegal trash on blm land. if its not to your satisfaction pickup a bag yourself, write a letter to a congressman or something. thanks elpepe25 Elpepe, sorry was typing while frustrated meant border patrol. No im not picking up a bag, I just got back from a year long deployment in Iraq, all I want is a nice peacefull hunt without all the crap.

So how much rutting are you seeing?
msgbarney replied to Redbeard's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
It might be starting, was is 35A this evening and was watching a buck chase 2 does into a tree vein 3/4 up the mountain, which in turn brought 3 more bucks over the top of the ridge to investigate.
