Here is a picture I thought i would share with all of you. My buddy in Kansas, where I was just stationed prior to my Iraq tour and ending up here sent me this. Ft. Riley started in 1995 importing a herd of Elk onto post. Since then they have grown, and have a hunt season with usually 1-2 bull tags and 8 or more cow tags a year. Needless to say out of the 10 years 95-06 I was there I never got drawn, but always seen them. Huge bulls and herds of 70-80 cows. Now over this time they have grown and split off into several different herds. Here is a small one today of them right outside of wakefield kansas. Just thought I would share this with you and get everyones hopes up for April.

I feel everyone's frustration. I just got here to Huachuca and hunt 35A and it's the same. I was surprised to still see deer amongst all the trash, and clothes. Had 2 illegals walk right by me last weekend while I was bowhunting. So I left the canyon and found a BP truck stopped them and told them the werabouts, considering by this time it was already dark they just drove up and back down the canyon. They next day on my way to work at 6am, saw the same two illegals walking down highway 92. Still wearing their baseball caps, jackets, and backpacks.

Well here is my .2 cents, save and get a good pair of binos, you will appreciate it in the long run. But if those gift cards are burning a hole in your pocket and you need something right now, Cabellas has a Bushnell 10X42 w/free spoting scope for 179.00. Just be prepared to buy again later, these are a pretty good deal, but not the greatest optics.

Ok Here we go. Most of you Coues hunters already know Im new to AZ. So I have some questions about Elk. Im thinking about putting in for an elk tag, but have no clue. What is the best unit? What is the best time of season to hunt? How do you do it, camp in the woods, or stay in a motel close bye? Im way down south here, and will have to stay the entire hunt north (Saving up leave days as we speak). If someone could help out/take me under their wing, I would appreciate it. I just got here in Oct, From Ft. Riley via Iraq. Ft. Riley did have 3 large herd of elk, but was never lucky enough to get drawn for one out of the 14 years stationed there. Any info would be helpful. Thanks
