    Single Shot Rifles

I know of a young man here in Flag. that bought a 300 win last fall. has a muzzle break on it and a accurizer. He bought a 300 ultra and doesn't need this rifle. It is a ruger no. 1 b in stailess. If your interested let me know and I can put you in contact with him. Just thought I would put it out there.

    Single Shot Rifles

I have a .338 mag, .300 win mag, .22-250, and had a .270 and 6mm untill earlier this year. All of which with a bit of help on the triggers shot well and then with the hicks accurizer have proven to shoot very will... or at least under 1" at 100 yrds. One thing I love about ruger no.1's is the volocity increase over standard rifles because of the full barrel length. For example my .270 had a 26" barrel and a good charge of H4831 shot a nosler balistic tip 150gr. at 2950+ fps. I shot a 150gr speer at 57.5 gr H4831 at just shy of 3000 fps. The .338 win is death on elk at any range I have used. My wife shot a cow at 360 yrds with a 200 gr. nosler at about 3050 fps on a facing shot. The elks neck whipped back so hard that the elk broke its pelvis and hip hitting the ground so hard. Awesom elk round!

    Regular vs. Short?

Short mags are a good example of modern day cartridge, but the old laws of physics must be considered inorder to say a WSM will match long action mags is not true. Kinda like saying a V6 puts the same horses down as a V8 or V8 to a V10.....it doesn't add up. I am not saying that a short mag isn't more efficient but look at a 300 ultra mag to a win mag in the Nosler reloading book verses the wsm. All three a great flat shooting but the WSM can not keep up with the heavy bullets the other two do. Simple physics say you get out what you put in...... So that is why I shoot a 300 win in a stainless ruger no. 1. This allows me to push the bullet out the lands and not worry about the cartridge fitting to the magazine and therefore yields greater case capacity and better accuracy. My favorite load 79 gr. Reloader 22 3.355 OAL 168 gr Nosler Balistic Silvertip 3277 fps. Put the hammer down men! Shoot it and shoot it well it doesn't matter.
  4. Well, unfortunately the survey card helps some hard working men and women whom do care about their job. Now whether or not the commision listens to those biologists is another story and is really whom you are trying to punish...right ?
  5. Well, here is the mount picture. I have fitted the buck on a piece of juniper for the pedistal base that will be fit onto a black walnut pedistal.

    Aug. Black bear

Just thought I would share a photo of bear I was lucky enough to take last fall. I am getting really excited for the rug to return from Clay in Payson. Game and fish said she was 9 years old and was beautiful. I feel very fortunate to have found this girl and make a clean shot at 253 yrds. She weighed right at 135lbs field dressed. Special thanks for helping me and keeping me company to Marvin (coues&coyotes) and his son Chris.

    Friday Bird

Just a quick post to thank a friend of mine for some of the most beautiful purring and putting I have heard. Way to go Kevin! We located this bird and tucked him in on Thursday nights or so we thought. Showed up with the robbins on Friday morning to find he had moved right at dark to the top of the mountain another 1/3 mile. Which by the way about killed us trying to get to him. I got to see the bird hang up on some old logs only to move off to a nice saddle 200 yrds away. We quickly moved up the mountain to have this old gobble come right in. He sported a 9+" beard and was beautiful. Thanks kevin for the support and keeping the spirits alive. Not to mention Joe for his help as well. Sometimes you just need a little encouragement to keep trucken!

    Snow in Flag

For all you luck archery bull elk people out there. I was quite surprised this morning to wake up and find this on my porch in doney park. This should really help the grass and green things up.

    Friday Bird

Crazy thing about this bird is he flew right down out of that big tree in front of Mike and Rhondas right to us! Hahaha! Then we had to have break fast. Seriously it was a great time and I look forward to a bit of turkey pot pie home made style now.

Oct. coues (A bit late) Mount

Yes, that was the actual color of the antlers early last year. Most buck were easy to see if they had any size because of the white horns. I decided to leave them as they were. Mount n'view taxidermy by Chris Favor did the work. The turn around was great! I left the deer in the begining of Nov. and had him back begining of March. I know that not always is this fast the best but Chris did a great job. Thanks for all your nice comments. I am very bless to have taken such a beautiful animal and to be in the arena.
  11. I was lucky enough to take this buck last October after a 5 day pillage of the hills and working myself to near death. Ah, but it was worth the wait. I could not be happier. I will add a photo of the finished mount from Chris Favor at Mount'nview tax. here in Flag. I had some of the best help I could have ever had with my Brother from TX here and by best friend ever - Rob Ruppart. Thanks guys for a great hunt and life time memories.

    suns bushing for a championchip

This is Shaq on a new weight loss plan and I think it will work or he isn't going to score points. Besides Marion busted us in the chops with the hole I need more money thing! I am loyal and Marion proved even with his stats he wasn't worth of more $ even though I really liked the team with him. Go Shaq! 50lb lighter in 4 months he will be the a polaris razor!

    One from this afternoon

That 6mm looks even better now on your shoulder than on mine. I sure like the looks of coyote being held by a single shot shooter. Ha!

    Daughter's first ever bow hunt

That was one of the funnest experiences I have ever witnessed! Thanks for letting me be a part of your hunt. I hope I can have the poise this young lady had on my next hunt to wait and let it all happen. Then to make the shot. Nice piggie!
  18. Sorry to hear this. If it isn't one thing it is another at times. Also, sad to say check out page 11 of the new Elk/Antelope regs with the elk clinic informations that discusses the use of setting cameras and attractants. Nice of G&F to promote this activity to everyone.

    opinoins on the .300 WSM?

I agree! Well put! Also, simple physics over a 300 win mag is that you can not get the same volocity with less powder. Kind of like a V6 verses the V8 engine in a truck. I am not saying the WSM is not a good modern combination that utilizing a good combination of case capacity, action to cartridge fit, and filling a nitch (minus feeding problems). The 300 win. mag has issues fitting into a long action and seating a bullet at the optimum location and still fitting in the magazine and from what I have heard the WSM is better with that in mind which gives good accuracy. I personally bought a 300 win mag because of this in a single shot. Now I can fit the bullet right out to the lands and not give up case capacity.......which means spppppeeeeeeeeddd! Not to say the WSM would not be fun, effective at taking down animals, and new! It is basically a 300 H&H in a new wrapper!!!!!!!!!!

Thought Galiuro Man and Josh would like this picture! This dog took over 20min. to come in but I had no problem letting the air out of this one. This is #2 for the year, first dog or the colt.

    This ever happend to you?

So much can be said about score but it is only a number. I say a guess is a guess and only a tape shows true numbers when done right so don't worry about the score but rather if it looks right. When a buck is big enough the score doesn't matter. After the hunt you probably will remember how good a particular deer looked/looks and the score doesn't matter it is just icing on the cake. In my opinion it is what feels and looks right at the time. Kind of like the first deer you ever were able to take.

Agree! I just got my hands on one myself for one of the best seasons of the year! Ah, something about the song dog coming to the rabbit choke hold. Here is a pic of a friend from a couple weekends ago. #1 for the year!
