When I glassed this thing up I thought initially it was part of a rib cage or something. I looked my tail off for the other side but no luck. Oh well, I measured just shy of 49".

I have yet to shoot a deer that has not ran off 50-75 yards. Amazing how big the bodies are on these deer.

Nolser E-Tips or other gilded metal alloys
Bird Dog posted a topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Hello all, I was wondering if anyone has loaded the e-tip bullets? Specifically, I am thinking about the 150 gr. or "new" 168 gr. in a .308 caliber. I have been using the 168 gr. .308 in CT Ballistic Silver tip with great results. I don't want to change bullets unless I have too and thought by going all copper I may get lighter bullet faster with good weight retention out of my .300 win mag. I shoot the 168 gr. CT's at 3277 in a 26" with great accuracy. -

Thanks for you reply. I don't want to change, but with the regulations of differing states I have been pondering the possiblilites mostly. I can say the 168 CT bullets are hard and are quite accurate for me. On coues they don't wreck them ~200 yrds. which makes table fair quite nice. -
Hey Dog man, thanks for sharing the pictures. I love the dogs!

Are you ready for the long shot? I am...
Bird Dog replied to shortpants's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I commend you for this article. It seems people don't practice and understand what is happening and too often animals are shot out of "luck" by trial and error. I guess this range has much about trial and error. -
What one person values not all value the same way. I bet this topic would be viewed much differently if it were rifle tags on "coues" hunts for January and rifle bull elk in 9,10,1 or 27 to be allowed for two weeks in September. I personally like all forms of hunting and was glad to see we could take a young lady out to hunt and get a bird over the counter, but I know there are many other hunters whom love turkey hunting and pass on deer hunts that this may impact. One thing is for sure, Arizona is growing much too fast our resources and animals will never keep up. If G&F only worry about getting kids into a hunt it all won't matter if we are not conscience about building quality hunts and ensuring "sound" management. Looks like another drought year in play and same numbers of tags with more people wanting them. We all live in a great recreational state with far less animals to lean on than most places. This is a dedicated Coues site, what are we really doing to our deer in this state while balancing the budget and expanding opportunity when there is not enough to go around in the first place? I think this was a great step to getting kids involved but should there not be some limits to OTC permits that are reflected in numbers of tags during regular hunts? I say this because "Youth" spring turkey tags were offered and sold out yearly.

Nice bird. Looks like the shot gun may have some history?

Taking Photos of Your Coues Buck
Bird Dog replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Yea a little balance in life....like bigger isn't always better because any deer or animal is a trophy because it was a surviver since birth and not to forget the stock, the shot, a clean kill, and most important the friends/family that shared a remarkable experience with the hunter. Who cares about the size but that a photo was taken well. I think we all can improve. Thanks Doug! -
Just wondered how many "youth" hunters people on this site knew were in the field this past weekend or will be going during this hunt?
-
This was once again a "truely" great experience with this young lady. Good job Brittany! I wish I could have seen a bird stut at 10 yards for a couple minutes before shooting. This was a perfect situation and what a way to start for her. How about this young lady shooting a 12 ga. to boot!

Coues & Coyotes thanks for the nice evening "choking" the rabbit blues. I have not seen a coyote yet quite this large. He was very long legged as well as heavy. I am sure we have protected a few fawns this year with him out of the loop. We pulled this dog out of the middle of deer and elk herds. The ruger I have is a 26" tube.

Yes, I have! A friend and coworker of mine is an electrical engineer and we took it a part and resoddered it back on. It wasn't bad to fix just be careful not to complete the circuit on that flash because it is a compassitor and you will get shocked. Mine is still working even after bears have removed the camera to play with it.
