I'm not a big supporter of the long range shooter, IN GENERAL, if it is for the use of long range hunting situations. I'm sure there are the rare exceptions out there who do practice but my main concern is with the ones who aren't going to walk across the valley and up the other hill side to check for blood even though the animal ran off. 1,000yds coues7.....well put! TJ Honestly I don't know for sure but I don't think that there is anyone on this sight that would shoot an animal and not check for blood because they are too lazy to walk across a canyon! There are definately people out there that do this but most certainly I am not one of them. I would never take a shot on a deer or any animal that I was not fully comfortable with. Trying to better your range and become a better rifleman is in no way unethical, if anything it will make you more confident when you are going to take a shot. I see your point and it is a valid one but just because I might be able to shoot 500 yards or more does not mean that I would not do everything in my power to get as close as possible for a shot.

Cool looking buck bro. I saw a thick horned two pointer last season that looked just like yours with the mass carrying all the way through the main beams. I could'nt get a shot at him but hopefully he will be there next season!

Thanks for the help, you just opened a huge frickin can of worms!LOL! What I mean by that is now that you told me about everything that has worked for you I see that I won't be happy unless I go all the way with building this rifle. I hate to try and do something half butt to try and save money when in the long run spending more up front will actually save me money because I will have to do it again the way it should have been done the first time. Kind of like buying 10 pair of binos only to wind up spending $2000 on a pair of Swarovski's when it is all said and done. Again thanks for your help and time everyone! I am off tommorrow eve to kill a piggy.........

I agree with you 100% This is something that I will try to get good at and only then would I try to make a long shot. I have been shooting for a long time and am a respectable shot but I consider 500 yards a far shot on an animal, but hey what the heck I figure if I get a better rifle than I have now and learn to shoot it at 1000 yards what harm is that gona do? It will only make me a better shot and hunter. I am a bow hunter mainly so I have been sneaking up on animals for a long time now and am pretty confident that I will be able to get closer than 1000 yards for a shot. Another reason I am going to buy this rifle was last year I made a shot on the last day of the hunt at about 400 yards with my 30-06 shooting 180 grains. (I know not the perfect load) Needless to say the first shot I missed but adjusted for the second shot accordingly (aimed 2' over the back!) and dropped my first coues buck where he stood. So now that I am a coues NUT I figure I will spend the money on a nice set-up that takes more of the guess work out because I DO NOT want to wound a deer and am willing to do anything possible (including spending a buttload of $$$) to make a one shot kill. Also I do plan on getting a rangefinder and have been looking into this quite a bit and am set on the Swaro's or the Leica CRF 1200's. Someone had also mentioned that you are only as good as the scope you have and I am fully aware of that and agree 200%. That is why I am trying to get as much info as possible so I know what to plan on spending and more importantly so I am able to get something and have enough time to set-up and learn to shoot it before next year. THANKS FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP GUYS KEEP EM COMING! IMO, the best rang time you can do is go to the range and get your ballistics doped, (wind, and drop at what ranges) and then go out in the field and start practicing! My favorite way to practice is either on jack rabbits or rocks. Sit up on a high spot with your spotter and pick out rocks. range em and bust them! Its fun and you get a lot of good practice out there! By the way, you are breaking a unspoken law and not posting a picture of your deer! I did post a pic and story.

Who said the cot was for me? LOL!!!!
-
Just got a new cot for Valentines day and was looking to get a foam pad for it. I like the Cabela's deluxe cot pads but for the size I need it is $90. I would think that I could just buy a chunk of 2" or 3" thick foam but it is proving to be tougher to find than I thought. The cot that I have is a slumberjack 40"x86". Seems all of the pads I am finding are much smaller and meant for backpacking. I don't care about the size or weight I just want something that is comfortable and has some insulation. Any suggestions?????????

I have had mine in Blythe CA on the fourth of july weekend and had the A/C running the whole time we were there and it kept at about 80deg during the heat of the day and I'm talking over 110 and humid outside! I have also had mine in the extreme cold. The heater always kept up no problem but one thing that did happen was the water froze up. That is to be expected from anything though when it is 20 degrees in the heat of the day! I have a friend of a friend that has an 06 13rt and I think he wants to sell it due to hard times at work. This is the same trailer I had it has everything including a slideout and sleeps 6 couples all on beds. The front bed is a king, the rear is a queen, and the slide out table folds into a full. They also have 36 gallons of water, indoor/outdoor showers, sink, refridge, stove, crapper, heater, and A/C. I was able to put my quad which is a foreman 450 with huge mud tires on the front deck with lots of room around the sides and underneath for more gear.

I did like those but ended up just going to Mesa Sales and got a piece of 2" thick foam for about $35. Thanks for the help everyone!

I had a starcraft 13rt which is similar to that one but a little bigger. I loved mine and regret selling it. Look at the starcraft they are worth the money IMO. I originally had a 1/2 ton suburban with a 6 inch lift and it would tow the trailer fairly well until you hit the hills and even then it did pretty well. They tow like a dream. I also liked mine because it would go virtually anywhere and had more ground clearance than my truck!

I would definately like the guys number and thanks for the offer! What did your rifle cost to build? Sounds like exactly what I am looking for. I am trying to get a price together so I can figure out what strings need to be pulled to get this set-up for next rifle season and not be too much of a shock to the ole billfold!

I would have to say yes. I have never shot a bobcat with a 22 but I have shot coyotes and killed them no problem. On the other hand I have seen some rather large bobcats that I would think twice about shooting with a 22 unless I had a fairly close shot. Buy some good hollow point high velocity rounds and give it a try.

How tall is it fully extended? Can you use it standing up?

Looks almost exactly like the crew I came accrossed in 36B!

Man those dogs really did a number on her!

What needs to happen is for some of these jackass politicians that talk all their crap on border patrol methods, need to take a trip with me down there and I will show them in less than two days just how many illegals that there really are. They would no doubt be extremely surprised at just how many illegals there are! Then maybe something could be done besides what efforts are already in place to help fix the problems.

WOW! That is an awesome looking buck! I hope I get a chance at a buck like that in my lifetime! -
Had the same thing happen to me in 36B twice last year. I wonder what the law is when something like that happens? Basically your life is in danger right? Do you have the right to use deadly force? Or get beaten or maybe killed worrying about going to jail for the rest of your life for protecting yourself against a desperate illegal drugrunner? Just wondering because I plan on hunting down there again this year and I am not going to let some illegals scare me away from something I love.

Thanks for the idea El Pepe. This is the second one that I made, it is 1/4" aluminum plate and works pretty well. The first one that I made was 1/8" aluminum plate but was a little too flexible and made the glasses shake ever so slightly(enough to make me build another out of 1/4" instead). Can't wait to really get it out in the field to try it out! -
Nice frickin buck dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I notice that under the photo it says (courtesy photo). I wonder if after the kid $h!t that buck if he was kind enough to at least give a courtesy flush?DOH!!!!!!!!!!!

BEER & GUNS! Let me know where you are going shooting so I can stay up-range from you and keep good access to the month supply of bud light! LOL!

I have seen a boat load of turkeys almost everywhere around the black river mainly in the ten o diamonds area. You should have no problem finding birds they are everywhere in there! Good luck!
