True story......my first Coues hunt...my first big game hunt as a matter of fact....16 years old....me and my buddies had been planning, packing, talking about it for months.......36C....crammed my beat up ole Datsun car with tents, food, the works...got there Thur afternoon. There were three of us...one tag. we get up opening morning at 'O dark thirty....hike in a mile or so...wait for the sun.....not two min into shooting light...small 3X3 walks out 200 yds away....my buddy smokes him with one shot.....gut 'em. hump back to camp...and then at that moment realize our adventure is over.....well we just couldn't go back to town...hung him in a tree and goofed off for a couple more days......we got back to town and showed his Dad our deer...he was P O'd.....didn't buy our story at all about getting it "the night before". That was some strong flavored deer......but I was hooked for life....shot my first big game (javelina) in the exact spot the next season..... As Bon Hirsch used to say...get the hide off before it hits the ground. Keep it cool and dry. If the weather's warm and you can't get to town I have wrapped a deer in a sleeping bag with ice bags in the day to insulate it and keep it cool. Has worked well for me in the past.

I stumbled on a trail cam while archery Elk hunting this Sept. Of course I had to do a couple of goofy poses and then went about my way and continued hunting. I got to thinking about it later...do you with trail cams get irritated with idiots like me that wave at your cam or even give it a moon shot (not me) or do you just chuckle and go to the next pic?? Maybe hunter pics let you know about pressure in that area??

I don't goof with 'em. To me they are non hunters that are genuinly interested in my hunt. Hunters are in the minority in this country and I try to keep in their good standings........we might need their vote one day.

Unless you don't want a license for 2009 the best way to go about it is to go to walmart or whereever and just get it over the counter, then you can just enter the number on the apps.......good luck in the draw......and as far as mailing...monday is a holiday and no mail...you best drop it off at game and fish or no tags at all for you. Game and fish is probably closed Monday also for Columbus....don't know for sure.

CALLING ALL DEMOCRATS
tommat replied to GodIsGood's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
NativeRat....great post...as a registered independent, I don't just blindly vote for the republican or democrat party...takes lots of reading, watching and thinking..........leaning hard for McCain right now...90% sure...unless something really big happens to change it. -
34A archery......love glassing for Coues at the same time.

Great job...I had a 5B south cow tag and sure had trouble early on with the high number of hunters....did you have a lot of dudes walking in to your water hole??
-
Thanks for the info...I was only considering it for a plan "B" if my new "secret spot" I ""discovered"" doesn't pan out or I am pinched for time. I'll for sure stay out of there opening weekend...maybe save it for a middle of week hunt......

While congress fiddles.....America and the world economy burns....a lot of my retirement funds just started swirling down the drain. This is serious business folks. They better get something going or we might just need to start speaking chinese, indian or russian. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/30/business...&ei=5087%0A Thanks House Republicans! I feel all they did was stall the process and what was finally put to a vote was almost identical to what Bush and Paulson wanted.....with some added pork of course that was piled on during the negotiations.

Bullseye...I agreed with what Barney Frank said yesterday about what the 12 house republicans did...changing their yes votes to no after Nancy Pelosi "hurt" their feelings after her dumb partisan speech before the vote.....way to put your "feelings" before the needs of the country!!! Also the right wingers keep harping that the dems and pass the bill whenever they want...there in the majority...wrong! this bill is controversial they had 60 no votes from their own party...they need help from the republicans......they all need to get with BIPARTISAN politics and get an agreement done! -

Unless you have your money under a mattress it's almost impossible to not have funds invested somehow, somewhere. This is everyone's problem.....caused by a few's greed. -
Are you really sure who you're voting for??
tommat replied to BowNut's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
It was pretty easy to guess their quotes....most are from their frequent stump speeches...I sure am a die hard indy...almost a 50 - 50 split! -
What do you guys do with these coyotes??? You surely don't eat them.....is there a market for the fur?? Thought that had died years ago...

You know I'm sure I'll get beat up a little for this but as a long registered independent, and former GOP'r, (mostly due to the "my way or the highway tone both parties have taken), especially the GOP, if Obama does take the presidency, the world will not end, guns will not be seized in the wee hours of the night, and we won't be reciting the Koran in school. The country seemed to do just fine with 8 years of a Clinton administration. I try to keep as open minded as possible and have truely not yet decided who my vote will be cast for. I am what both candidates want to attract, and my kind will decide the election!! The selection of Palin has pulled me closer to the McCain camp. I will be watching the debates and mulling over the answers. I just have tired of the severe partisanship politics has taken. I listen to talk radio a lot and it seems that I am considered a traitor to my country because I am not in lock step with the conservatives....If anything, Rush, Sean and especially Michal Medved, (he considers me an "enema of the state"), almost push me and my fellow indy's to the liberal side with that attitude. Not to mention the goofy e-mails I get accusing Obama of raping women, hating America and worshiping the Koran in secret. Obama said it best in his acceptance speech, paraphrased, - Let's stop the character attacks and inuendos and debate policy -. There are many sides to all issues and I will be enjoying the next 60 or so days and mulling whom to cast my vote. This is for sure an interesting election. Just the thoughts of an independent......
