    ATV tags

Jan 1st is fsat approaching. Nothing new on the G & F site nor the DMV site....anybosy have any info on how much it will set us back?? I also read in article in the local paper here in Tucson about the Coronado Natl forest severly restyricing ATV access this coming year? anybody kow more about that?
  2. As far as I know thru Gardner is the only "legal" way to get in there. I have gone into hog thru the pvt property and not been hassled recently. But I drive slow, don't make dust or noise and keep the quad trailored until well onto natl forest land. The gate isn't locked. But it is a gamble. A few years ago one of the property owners started to give me a tresspassing tongue lashing till they saw my oldest boy who was young then and I explained I was just trying to scout for a deer for him and then they were nice and let me pass. Now I just use the quad and go thru Gardner. Just less hassle even though it adds a half hour to the drive. As far as Adobe. That gate off 82 is locked. you have to go thru Gardner, then Hog. Good luck.
  3. We got about a 1/2" in Corona de Tucson.....just enough to stick. Jr made a foot high snow man....
  4. That is just nasty......even though guided he should have known he was to close to homes......those antlers probably helped him pull the trigger. The sad part is he had a tag good for all year......could have caught up that Bull again later...

    Accuracy with broadheads

How far away form the bow and target should the paper be? Should the paper be on the target? And do adjust the rest to correct for what the paper shows is off? Just Google "paper tuning". There are probably about a dozen web pages that will take you through it step by step.

    Accuracy with broadheads

I don't even know where to start. For fixed blade broadheads to shoot like field points your bow must be in tune, and lately I have really been spending some time matching the broadheads to the arrows. It has really made a difference. This Elk season I shot my broadheads and arrows numerous times out to 60 yards. I just resharpened them before the hunt...shaving sharp! I was amazed to see the differences. If I had an arrow / broadhead combo that wouldn't group, just switching it to another arrow would, a good portion of the time, bring it in with the others. If it didn't that arrow was marked and only to be used with a field tip. Using this process I was able to get 6 solid straight shooting fixed blade broadheads..... So if you are confidant that your bow is in tune try switching arrows and broadheads around. If that doesn't work you probably have tuning issues with your bow. This close to the season you might just go with a good mech head...

    A little Holiday Decorating

Merry Christmas, Ho Ho Ho. Make it a holiday tradition!
  11. I have been invited by some co-workers to do some predator calling / hunting in a couple of weeks. They are great guys and after we plan on doing some quail hunting. One of them is quite a good caller and has taken several yotes and even a bobcat recently. I have never really varmit hunted before as I feel strange about killing animals I don't plan on feeding to my family. I about got tossed into a deer camp fire one night years ago when I told them about a mountain lion I glassed up 300 yards away, eating a rabbit and just watched him for a half hour or so. They were peeved I had no lion tag and didn't shoot. I know that there are plenty of predators out there and that shooting varmits does no damage to the population. And I know that the less predators out there the more it helps the fawn survival rate. Is there still a market for the pelts? Are there any other advantages to killing varmits? What are your thoughts.....I will probably just go along and go after some quail...but it would be fun to stick a yote with my bow.....

    37A Buck

A co worker sent me that pic to my cell phone from hers. She told me her cousin is the one in the photo and he took it near red rock! She would not try to trick me. I believe her.

    Varmit hunting

That is messin with Mother Nature. I am sure really bad things would happen if predators were hunted to the point of extinction.....Not that G & F would ever let that happen. I see a yote most times I am out hunting now and I feel the current practices are not harming their porulations but Lord knows what would happen to the balance of nature if we really knocked things out of whack.

Any one ever use these guys?

About 10 years ago I chased some big mulies in the Tucson Mtns.....But it has been heavily developed. There are still some deer in there and it would take some scouting....there are a few isolated honey holes that can be found but it would take some leg work to get away from the mountain biker / hikers / and horse riders....If you time is limited the catalinas are a much better bet.

    Locking your Car

Thats pretty neat. I have seen many times people using the club get burned cause the thiefs just cut the steering wheel with bolt cutters and slip it off. Not with that contraption. Plus coming from Europe they would not see it alot.

    Varmit hunting

Ha ha. The point I was trying to make is that I have just been a little uncomfortable with killing to just kill. I myself have horses and regularly kill pack rats that make a mess of our feed...not just to kill them for fun. I have no problem with ranchers / herders that need to control predator populations, with trappers who sell pelts, etc. Killing for "fun" just isn't the way for me. I know that the Lord placed animals on the earth for our use but does that include target practice? Prarie dog shoots come to mind here, (I know they can damage pasture). I did go varmit hunting with the co workers and a yote was called in. I decieded not to hunt the yotes and watched as a shot was made and missed. We later went out to hunt Quail. None taken, but I did shoot a nice Jack rabbit and he is now boned and in my freezer. Got some strange looks from the guys, but he will be eaten. I have no beef with varmit hunters and would fight any attempt to ban, but have decieded it's just not for me.

With Obama to name Grijalva as Sec of Interior I think That the Rosemont Mine will be D.O.A. Grijalva has always opposed it.
