Last August I was smart and went by Flag for deer and fall turkey...much cooler......but I do have a cow elk tag for 5B...ahhhhhhh pines........Enjoy yourselves up there!

Unfortunatly not by my bow....It was blistering hot here in So Az. I was glassing ridges in 34A Santa Ritas and didn't last past 1:00. I glassed my tail off. Thought for sure I would catch one bedded in the shade and make a sneak but no luck......How do you guys deal with the heat...hiding in the shade by water.....staying home and relaxing??

Here I am today..just as I said I would be, chasing Coues...It was HOT HOT HOT...didn't get off work till 07:AM and was at my intended glassing spot about 09:00.....glassed hard looking under the shade of trees.....nada...but got a good workout and sweated off a few pounds in prep for my upcoming Elk hunt. I can attest to the fact that the shirts do not have built in air conditioning....but they feel and look great!!! I also have an Oct rifle tag for this area (34A) and will be back when the weather is a little cooler. Here is a front view. Had to use my tripod to take the pics as I was all alone....only one crazy enough to brave the 100 degree temps!?!

I used Rocket Steel heads on my Cow Elk 2 years ago...complete pass through..was a little high and back but she went about 200 yds and dropped. Not the best blood trail I wished for but meat in the freezer. I have become a little concerned about their 7/8th diameter and short length of blade. I have another Cow tag and am going to use Trophy Ridge Hematic 3 blade. They also are 7/8th diameter for high speed accuracy, but are over twice as long as the Rocket Ultimate steel heads...they have been flying nicely out to 60yds...and I hope to get more cutting power with the longer blades.... also $15.99 for three @ walmart. I might have those blades confused with the Rocket Ultimate steel....the Rocket Steel heads are mech...have not hunted with those....

Has anybody used the Remington model 770?
tommat replied to fireman's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have a Rem 710. It is a generation before the 770. I have been very happy with it. I have it in .270 cal. I am planning on purchasing a 770 in .243 youth for my youngest when he turns 10. My 710 shoots great groups....The Bushnell scope it came with was alright..I put it on my .06 and put a better one on the remington.....don't know what they changed when they dropped the 710 and went to the 770 though. Where are you a fireman? Here in Tucson?? -
Does anyone know why the area around Alpine is not open for the late archery hunt for deer. We got invited to a friends cabin the last week of Dec and I thought I might take my bow for a walk and bump into a deer but checking the regs, units 1 and 27 are only open for deer in the early hunt.

Thanks....didn't have my readers on....

I hunted 34A a lot in Nov and live on the northside of the unit. I didn't use that road but a buddy hunts up there a lot and he didn't mention any problems for his Nov hunt. Still lots 'o deer out there. Good luck.
