This video is from a Palm Treo Phone - I see my feathered friends every morning. They are not too skiddish, I believe the rancher may be feeding them.Gould__s.wmv

These birdies are further south. PM me if you are interested in their exact location. It's private property though.

Very nice! I would be more than happy to harvest a buck like that in my December hunt coming up.

+1 any of you ever looked down the shaft that runs under this shack? No what's in it? -

Looks like the old mining shack on Melendrez Pass - Love that area. I'm guessing you found the way in from the 163 Road. -
While we are on the subject (Mexican Coues)

I knew I wasn't crazy - I found the post from last January from "firstcoueswas80". http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=8079&hl=Mexico It looks like the pictures are no longer there. Maybe I can PM firstcoueswas80 and have him repost the pictures of that strange little whitetail. -
I was at the range on Sunday with my .300 Ultra Mag w/ BDC Scope. I zeroed at 200 yds - and used the first circle for 300 yds. I adjusted the parallax to 300 yards and tried the first circle at 300 yds. The darn circle is still so big at 300 yds that it basically made a circle around the entire black circle of my target. A lot of room for error - I even had the scope powered all the way up to 18 zoom magnification. Anyways I let a few fly and they were both high and to the right - about 5 inches high and 6 inches right. There was about a 8 mph cross wind that might have created some of the windage error. I was shooting a 150 grain SSB tip at about $2.75 a bullet - needless to say I was trying to be conservative with what I shot. Nikon has a BDC guide and it states that to use the BDC reticle you need to follow some steps to calibrate your longer shots - including adjusting your power until it moves a circle closest to your shot and then marking what power you shot for what distance. Very complex - I wish I had more time and unlimited rounds to follow their directions.

Last year at this time someone posted a picture of their "fantail" that they harvested on the coast of Mexico. If I could figure out how to use the search function - I could probably find it. It was tiny - and I believe he harvested it by the coastal area. I'll do some more looking -
Congrats! Nice looking first buck - Im happy to see youngsters having success!

Watch out for the Klumps - they claim to own property that has been disputed in the past and have even confronted the BLM. Other hunters have had bad experiences with them also. Seem like good ol boys but they don't trust anyone anymore - See this article http://www.bensonnews-sun.com/articles/200.../news/news4.txt http://www.bensonnews-sun.com/articles/2004/05/26/news/news4.txt

Are you just window shopping? There are some huge toads on SNPE - can you leave a trail of corn for him leading right into unit 33? -
Awesome. My little girl is only 2 and I doubt my wife will ever let me take her hunting when she's older. I took my wife predator calling one time...bad move. She was a pain in the *ss. Of course that's what I get for marrying a city girl. Good job Pops on gettin her out there.

Wow! I'm jealous. Hope there's still some big ones around for my late Dec tag

Video Of 2007 Hunt

Nice video - well put together. It sure looks like one of my favorite areas in 33. -
I'm guessing that you are talking about coues...I haven't taken an archery buck yet but I have gotten more stalks in unit 36C than any other southern unit. I had a stalk 2-years ago on a nice 3x4 buck in 34A and a late season rifle hunter practically shot him out from under me (exaggeration) actually I was on the ridge planning my approach when the ground underneath me shook - I wasn't in view of the buck yet, but I was sure ticked off. I thought for sure those rifle hunters saw me on the ridge. Funny thing, I went up and talked to them and watched them field dress him and begin to haul him out - never once did they put a tag on him. I was going to bring it up - but decided that they had rifles and I only had my bow so I better be quiet.

Legend has it that the spirit of Cochise still hunts those sacred mountains and only allows those hunters who have done their homework to actually see a nice buck.

0% success on Carp and you want to try the "gray ghost?" Just so you're clear - you are stepping up the difficulty by huntin' coues - it's not getting any easier. Glass, Glass, Glass and then Glass some more. Then start really glassing and quit moving around. Stay put and stay out all day. - Welcome to the site!

Remington .300 Ultra Mag
Simple Hunter replied to Simple Hunter's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I found the Premier Scirocco Bonded 180 grain with polymer tip but it comes in 3 power levels. If I'm shooting coues at long range which power level do I want? -
Took my very first buck 12 years ago in that same area. Way to go guys.
-
Nice bucks - Nice Country. I can verify the grass is sometimes shoulder high. That will be my home unit soon.
-
Nice first coues. Looks a lot like my first coues.
-
I like that wide spread. I'd take that buck over a skinny spread with longer tines anyday. Good job.
-
Way to go. Looks like the 3x3 I shot last year.

Thanks for your input everyone. I just noticed there is a gun show coming up at the Pima County Fairgrounds on Nov. 1-2. I'll have to look for that 150 grain Scirocco. I guess I could also look at Sportsmen's.
