Kevin and Brian, Big Congrats! Way to represent So AZ. From what I know of Kevin you guys really put your time in and it paid off big. The best thing about your double harvest is that you enjoyed it together and the character of those bucks cannot be matched. I'm afraid you guys will have a hard time topping this hunt ever! That's a good problem to have. Will like to see them on the wall someday.

I have said this before...a hunting trip in the border units that is unencumbered by illegal activity just means you are lucky. The odds are better and better that you will have a bad experience every time you go. Whether it is your personal property broken into, your hunt ruined do to illegals spooking the deer, your pristine places being littered, or your personal safety it is not a safe place. Gun fights are increasing on our side of the border, Game and Fish employees being shot at, grizzly discoveries of dead smugglers. Identities are being mistaken, and yours could be next. I understand that many of you are confident in your ability to protect yourself, as am I, if push comes to shove. But unfortunately, I can take the risk for myself, but I dont feel comfortable taking that risk for my boys. If I can't hunt safely with my family and know that they are okay, then there is a problem with the Country we live in. We need to take this country back, we need to re-establish our border AT the Border. I don't care if they kill themselves south of the border.

Amanda, I think you can block the IP address that Muley Man is accessing from. He may actually be accessing from several different locations, but I bet there is an IT guru in our membership that could help you out. After you ban him this time make him give you his residential address and GPS coords and publish them on this site and then let us know when Muley Man season opens.

That is why they are called Carp I guess. You could snag em with a hook they are so dumb.

What Scope and power do you like?

I have a 6-18 x 40 Nikon Buckmaster with BDC reticle on my 300 Ultra Mag. I took a lion and a deer with just 3 shots last year. You have to limit your shots with .300 ultra mag (so expensive, $3.00 bullet) I like the BDC reticle for longer shots. To me its the best mid-range scope and is second only to a tactical scope in its adjustments. -
I sat a tree stand three years ago and had 16 deer come into drink at the water hole - the following day a lion came in (out of range unfortunately) and got a drink. Only two deer came in late in the afternoon of that same day. I heard deer in the trees and after the lion came in, they were whistling. I'm positive they smelled the lion and stayed away, they definitely didn't smell me as the two deer that did come in later that day bedded down under my tree stand

Single UDAs are likely drug mules and just dropped their load and are looking for a free ride. If they are singles out alone, I usually don't call BP, they can suffer the walk back to the border.

Must have been a buck from the "Steroid Era" he has cajones the size of Barry Bonds. Put an asterik by his name.

Lark, I do believe we have an access issue down south. Development continues to encroach on former access routes to forest, state, and BLM land. What happens is not a complete lack of access to the unit, but it crowds the unit where access is good and leaves the non-accessible portion of the unit underhunted. People are tired of the hunter densities being greater than the deer densities and much of it is due to lack of access. Matt Walton, with Game and Fish is doing a great job with the landowner relations program, but even he acknowledges the access issue down south is getting bad. I wonder what his opinion on landowner tags are. I personally don't care if a landowner gets a couple of deer tags per annum if he opens up hunting to new parts of the unit. Down south we wouldn't give away elk and pronghorn tags, just deer. Another option that should be considered for additional hunter access is opening our National Parks to hunting. Imagine the revenue the state would generate if it could sell tags on National Parks. They could single handedly bring the State of Arizona out of the budget crisis. -
Who shot the buck, pops or junior? I like the character on the buck, nice job!

Lark/Audsley: What specifically do you not like about landowner tags? You both mention that hunters are adamantly opposed to them but didn't give specifics why. I have never heard of any discussions on this site before and of all the hunters I know, we don't discuss them. When asked to think outside of the box, how can you rule out landowner tags? I don't really have an opinion on them, other than initially it seems like a tool in the shed that could be used. Why do you automatically assume that landowner tags have to be issued like they were in New Mexico or Colorado. Why can't Arizona have its own unique system? As a private property owner that has frontage on Forest Service property, what kind of incentive are you going to give me to entice me to open my property up to the public? I am going to stay open minded on this one until I have been given sufficient reason to oppose them. I don't think Lucero should be grilled for addressing a problematic issue of Access. What were the other candidates solutions to Hunter Access? -
Way to go Cody! Good first deer.

That's a pretty bull. Big Congrats!

very nice! I assume it's a Tom...or did you say? Are you looking to get a full body mount or a rug? I am getting a rug of my Lion and Jerry's Taxidermy is doing it. When I get it back in a couple of months I'll send you pics.

Unbelievable! You stalked him in scrub-ocotillo and got within 35 yards??? Did you crawl or what? Big Congrats! I mean, I can see stalking a carp within 35 yards, or sitting a blind or tree stand and getting a 35 yard shot, but stalking a coues to 35 yards? ???? -

Biscuits - sounds like maybe you have some "antler" envy. Score shmore, non typpies like that are awesome regardless of score. -
I think he got away! Seriously though, he's got nice tine length. I don't see G3s unless they are real small. He's looks about a 12" spread - for an archery buck, I'd definitely take him. Of course I don't have an archery buck yet. Looks like about an 80" deer.

Congratulations, that is exceptional!

Keep your eyes and nostrils open this fall, it was a hotter/drier than usual July and August...I bet this isn't the last one that's found.

Not coues deer, but still an awesome pic
Simple Hunter replied to DBArcher's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
That's awesome! I saw a single Tom come into the pond I was sitting two years back and he did the same thing, out of range for my bow. The question I have is did you have deer come in after they showed up? After my lion showed up, all I heard was whitetail whistles and snorts and they didn't come in the rest of the day. The day before I had 17 deer show up. -
Very nice mount! who's the taxidermist?
