Does anyone have a referral for a reasonably priced quad repair person or shop in the North Phoenix (North I-17) area? I've usually used guys that work out of their homes at reasonable rates, but of those I know of one moved out of town and the other is out of the country. Some of these shops are just crazy at how much they charge. I have a small problem (at least I think it's a minor problem) with the shifting system on my Polaris. Thanks.

I targeted this buck and hunted him exclusively for seven days before I finally found and took him with my bow. The pictures don't even do him justice, but I was alone when I shot him and took many of the photos with a timer. He is an 11 x 8 with a 37" spread, 30 inch main beams and gross (green) scores 262! His typical main frame is over 220 (P&Y world record typical is 205 6/8). I'm still in a fog that I was able to take him! It took me 13 years to draw a tag for the Arizona Strip, but thankfully I was able to put it to good use.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. I went up to the unit and met with a guide, Tory Brock, then spent a couple of days with him running his cameras while scouting for an auction hunter. He was already booked-up for the archery hunt, so we worked out an arrangement where I would just hunt alone for the first 10 days or so, then if I needed help he would guide me the last week after his clients had all gone home. I killed my buck on the 7th day of the season, so I wasn't actually guided but somewhat of a scouting package I supposed. I paid him the full guide fee plus tip anyway. It hasn't been mounted yet. It's supposed to be the cover story of next month's (August) Bowhunter Magazine if you want the detailed story of the hunt.

No, I still haven't managed to get it fixed and missed all of spring bear season. Part of my problem is that I can't even get it into a gear so that I can trailer it and take it to a shop, which was why I was trying to find someone that might be able to take a look at it at my home in North Phx. The only lead I received had a pretty busy schedule, and I was trying to get it done before I ran out of time to hunt bear, so it didn't work out. I probably need to try him again to see if I can get on his schedule at some point in future (now that I've missed-out on getting away for the 4th of July now too. I do believe I was wrong (or at least Yelp was wrong) in saying that the one recommended above in Anthem is closed. They appeared to be open when I drove by a few weeks ago (at least I think it's the same shop mentioned above).

Chris, I would classify my archery deer hunt as a BIG success! I'll just insert a link to my previous post on CW so as not to hijack this thread. http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/75289-got-the-muley-buck-i-was-after/

Sorry, I guess I missed that it was included in one of the 16A hunts. I wasn't aware there were sheep there.

That's not really true. The MINIMUM fine that the G&F Commission can give for the illegal taking of a four point (on at least one antler) mule deer is $8,000.00 per A.R.S. 17-314 and A.R.S. 17-101 B(4)(a). https://www.azleg.gov/ars/17/00314.htm https://www.azleg.gov/ars/17/00101.htm Thank you so much for your response. It illustrates my thesis in a way i could not communicate myself, Douche? Despicable? What's next? " A DEPLORABLE"! Zeke had a great response.. Had an Opinion supported an opinion left it at that. You had a good opinion but then resort to personal attacks because my opinion does not conform to what you want to read. So the reason I'm here is just for you M.M. You can get your angst out on me bro. Go for it. Further I would like to state that I am not the only one that thinks that the dumb cowboys actions is not that serious to warrant this scrutiny. The State of Arizona doesn't. He is charged with a misdemeanor! If convicted he will likely get community service, probation and a fine. The fine will be much less than a trophy fee or guide fee for a rack like that. Likely his worst charge is the contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The only poachers that do time are the ones that shoot hundreds of animals or deal in endangered species. So M.M. maybe we can find common ground and call our legislature douche's for not valuing our wildlife.

My expectations weren't too high, having already taken a turkey with a bow this year so I couldn't apply, and having drawn desert sheep two years ago and the Strip last year for deer so not many bonus points. But dang it, I was hoping!!

Congratulations BT and LB! LungBuster....I'm thinking that it will be pretty hard to find a sheep in 18B, and there are no permits in there in any event. A typo?
-
Hopefully you're packing a rifle and doing your part to thin out those coyotes when you see them, particularly this time of year.
-
I'd be pretty sure it will start Friday morning.
-
Congratulations, that's a very nice bull. You mentioned that the rest of the bison didn't react when you shot yours, which is surprising. You don't have a weapon in any of your photos, so I was wondering if you shot it with a bow or a gun?

Secretariat has the track record on all three of these tracks! Quite a horse. The year that Secretariat won, the same horse came in 2nd in all three races, I believe the only time that has ever happened. Which means that the second place horse would have won the Triple Crown that year had Secretariat not been around. It's a shame two such amazing horses had to be running in the same year.

Reminder: Trail cam meeting/webcast tonight at main G&F office

They told us at the Phoenix meeting that whether it was passed today or went through another round of comments, the expected start date would be April of 2019 as I recall. -

Looks like there will be no banning of cameras at all at this point! 5-0 They may study it more for the future, but it appears that the majority of the commissioners are opposed to passing any limitations (other than cell phone trail cameras, which they did ban). -

Nick, Terry Herndon left the mule deer foundation and started the new one. You'd have to ask him for the reasoning. -
I saw a buck on about May 13 that had already shed.

You might be right about the website. They have a link that says it will take you to your accumulated bonus point totals...but it doesn't: Access Drawing Results and Accumulated Bonus Points
-
You can still check your bonus points on their website without a portal account.

18...that's depressing... To answer an earlier question, I think the reason they separated the wilderness area from the rest of unit 24B is because those that drew 24B always hunted the easier country. Since nobody was ever hunting the wilderness, they put a tag in there to offer the extra opportunity and force someone to hunt in an area that was underutilized. It only makes sense. For those that don't know, a 168 ram is Boone and Crockett for desert sheep. So, according to B&C, a 168 desert sheep is the equivalent to a 190 typical mule deer, 375 typical elk or a 110 typical Coues. A ram scoring 175 is a huge animal by comparison, we just get a little spoiled living in a state that produces a few 180 inch rams each year.

Of course, my own suggestion would guarantee that I could not get drawn for the next few years (since I only have 3 points), but I still think that it's just demorilizing to those that have applied for 25-50 years to see some 10 year-old with no points get drawn. There's no way they can even appreciate what they have.
-
Based upon the numbers provided above, that means that everything 8 points or above is 100% for a resident. The only reason that some were given to the 7 pointers was because the NR permits were already maxed, and they had to skip over the remaining NR's that had 8 and drop down to 7 to find enough residents to fill the 20% quota.

Giant Archery Arizona Coues Buck by Hunter James Dudley
StickFlicker replied to Jay Scott's topic in Jay Scott Outdoors/Colburn and Scott Outfitters
Was this buck ever officially scored, as James said he was going to do? I've never seen any reference to an official score or seen it entered. -
Congratulations again, Wes. It was an awesome buck, and as mentioned in the press release, a bit of a challenge to measure! Marvin

"one guy suggesting to ban outfitters and guides etc." I think you misunderstood the comment. It was saying that IF cameras are a violation of fair chase, based upon the three criteria their committee used to determine "fair chase", then guides also seem to be a violation of two of their three criteria. It was an analogy meant to say that cameras are in no more violation of their criteria than guides are. It wasn't a suggestion to ban guides.
