I've been applying for 30-35 years as well, and I finally got hit for the $300 credit card charge for Desert Sheep on Friday morning as well!! Now the LONG wait to see which unit...22 or 24BS.
-
Jesse, Congratulations on the sheep tag! What were your first and second choices?
-
I strongly doubt it. It always takes a number of days to get through them all. Then, they will also need to start calling those whose cards didn't clear and eventually some of those tags will be offered to others that were next in line to be drawn when that hunt quota was reached.

Dear max point holders,........
StickFlicker replied to GreyGhost85's topic in Bighorn Sheep Hunting
As BoneCollector777 said on the first page of this thread, the original poster's comments just don't hold much water. This year there are 105 sheep tags, so 20% of them or 21 tags, will go to the max point holders. That would be true no matter how many people have the max of 27 points or how many of them apply to the popular or less popular units. There are approximately 105 hunters with 27 points going into the 2016 draw. If all 105 put in for various units like the OP suggested, it would take 5-6 years before a single person in the next lower group would receive a tag in the max point round. Conversely, if all 105 of them put in for 22 and 24BS, only 3 would draw and the other 18 max point pool tags would go to the hunters in the next lower group (26 points) THIS YEAR! for that reason, the OP's logic of asking them all to apply for lesser units just doesn't make a great deal of sense if the true object is to get the max point tags to fall to the people with fewer points in a shorter amount of time. The only reason it might have any weight is if he is one or two points from max points and wants to only draw 22 or 24BS. Then, it might be in his best interest to get the others with max points to put in for other units, but not at all for the reasons he states in his post. -
As was stated, per Game & Fish even putting it there the previous day does not count as first come first served. First come is that day only. It starts again the next day.

Where did these antelope come from? I believe the first antelope released there years ago came from Texas.

So you don't add sugar or any other ingredients, it's just the beans? I would have never guessed they would be sweet.
-
I had one come up missing in 6B this year as well.

While it's not an answer to your question, just an interesting related note, but in Arizona it has not been possible in recent years to draw an antelope tag in the bonus point round in any hunt for under 10 points.

You will all have a chance to see a similar collection of giant Coues deer when the Pope & Young Club has their convention in Phoenix in April, 2015!! -
Glad you caught it in time.

That is absolutely not true. Per the "Javelina Bag Limit" section on page 1 of the spring hunt regulations: The statewide bag limit for javelina is now two (2) javelina per calendar year with no more than one (1) javelina taken per open area as defined in each hunt number. The bag limit may be filled in any combination of permit-tags (draw tag or first-come left over draw tag as long as differing hunt numbers) or nonpermit-tags (overthe- counter tag) No more than one (1) permit-tag shall be issued per hunter through the initial draw. Refer to Commission Order 6: Spring Javelina on page 15.

Epperson's Africa Plains game Hunt with GreaterKuduLandSafaris
StickFlicker replied to GRONG's topic in Hunting in Africa
Josh, Your write-up about your illness sounded exactly like the description I have given of my very same ordeal, even the mention of mirrors and the hollow eyes! I kept putting off going to the doctor as well, figuring it would go away, but when I couldn't take the pain anymore and went in they said they thought my appendix could have burst up to a week earlier! I was in the hospital for a week as well, and definitely know what you mean about the sunken in eyes etc. I would jump and scare myself when I saw someone I didn't recognize out of the corner of my eye, every time I passed a mirror! Seriously, no joke. Wasn't much fun to get up and walk those first few days, was it! Glad you're doing better. -
The change in the camera rule must be new, because I didn't think they allowed cameras either. The first time I went to Africa I inquired as to whether I could get a discounted price if I shot a broken horned oryx. Their reply was "why would they have a broken horn?" It's very common to see them in NM with broken horns, but after three trips to Africa I have never seen one with even the slightest bit of tip broken off of a horn. For some reason, they just don't break there like they do here. I spoke to a biologist in NM about that, and he was surprised to hear that they don't break in Africa. His guess was that the NM animals are so inbread from having such a small number of original transplant stock when they were introduced, that it has caused them to have the brittle horns. I guess that's as good an explanation as any. They are delicious, and beautiful. Congratulations!

Where would all of these sheep come from to transplant? -
This seems like a bad thing for Game & Fish to me. Non-residents, whose licenses cost much more than a resident, will only need to buy a license every other year to apply for big game tags like elk. Since they normally have to apply for quite a few years before having enough points to draw, they can simply apply late in the application period one year, then at the beginning of it the following year, and so they will get to skip buying a license every other year. That seems like it will put a significant hit on the amount of money G&F will collect, which will offset anything they hoped to gain by increasing the cost of the license. Seems like the only one that is going to be paying more is the resident that has to buy one each year.

My version of the ol' mans hunt unit 10 2nd part
StickFlicker replied to maloney2121's topic in Antelope Hunting
Why the rule about not scoring at the taxidermists? Antelope shrink a fair amount from the time they are shot until the time they are scored. So, if you should decide to have him officially measured do it as soon as possible after the 60 day waiting period. The minimum for Boone & Crockett is 82. I would strongly suggest measuring him BEFORE he is mounted in order to get an accurate measurement. In addition to the longer wait to get an official score, and the greater shrinkage it will incur, it is very difficult (sometimes impossible) to score an antelope properly once it has been mounted and the hair covers the bases of the horns. -
how long for your first coues?
StickFlicker replied to joey lvr's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
It took me several years of trying to take my first. Bowhunter4Life took pitty on me and gave me one of his spots to try and the jinx was broken! -
I watched several of your videos sometime back and truly enjoyed them. I do quite a bit of video work myself, so I'm usually pretty critical, but I thought yours were fantastic. I too would love to do that hunt someday. Ibex are one of my favorite trophies to look at. I wish you fantastic luck on your challenge!

Just goes to show you how important mass is to the score. Congratulations!

As opposed to now, when you buy it in September it expires 4 months later on December 31? How are you worse off by getting an extra 8 months from the license? Since permit/tags cannot be printed on a printer in their current format, I assume that there will still be a license dealer network.

I would be interested to know the date the buck was killed? It's likely that it still had some growing to do since it likely had another few weeks in velvet before it shed.
