Hi, There is a way to do the hunter safety course online on your schedule. I believe you still have to do the field day though. Look on the Fish and game website. Brent

Hi, Got a copy of Western Hunter in the mail yesterday. Looks great. I can't wait to read it. It has a nice article about Amanda and coueswhitetail. com in this issue. I haven't subscribed to the magazine yet; so this issue was a surprise! Thanks Has anyone else gotten one? Happy Father's day! Brent

Well, thanks It was a nice father's day gift. I like the look of that cd your offering with a subscription. Brent

Hi, The wait is over. My four checks to Arizona Fish and Game have been cashed. I've been worried ever since I put those plain white envelopes in the box in Tucson. Now to keep the fingers crossed. We didn't do so well in the New Mexico draw. Good luck to all. Brent and Courtney

Hi, I went a couple of weeks ago to the tucson office with my apps printed out and the checks wrote. I wanted to get the right envelopes before I put them in the box. They didn't have any......so the lady gave me some plain white envelopes and told me not to bother putting the address on them. She says the ones in the box are hand delivered. I listened to her and have had a bad feeling about it ever since. Pretty normal feeling for this time a year though. I always assume the worst. They just can't leave well enough alone. I can't wait to see the checks cashed. Brent

Hi, My daughter has been having great luck with 95 grain Nosler partition and balistic tips. Her 243 also like Hornady SST 95 grains. We load using 42 grains of 4831 with cci 250. I believe it shoots right at 2930 fps and she used it to kill her whitetail and pig last year. Her gun shoots five shot groups right under 3/4 inch at 100 and 1 1/4 at 200 yards. Brent

Hi, I bought Ryan's 15's. It was a pleasure to meet him. I wish him the best in what his future brings him. I only hope I can do his bino's justice this fall. Thanks again Ryan for working with me. Brent

Good morning, Are the 15's still for sale? Brent

Hi, I have had good luck with natural gear. I also been using the outfitter camo from cabela's. That new microtex lite is perfect for August. I have to agree with Doug most camos are to dark, but you can also go to light. Brent

Hi, I have to agree. I would rather have my kids hunt, then myself. Those hunts are some of my favorite memories. My son drew four youth deer tags back when the fish and game put them in the middle of the adult hunts. Made it much harder than my daughter's early october hunt last year, but we still filled each tag. He does't hunt now but I hoping he will get back into it. I think that even though the some animals will get killed, as each kid grows older, they will start enjoying the idea of passing up young animals for more mature ones. We could always go to like a three point rule and let the kids shoot spike, etc. Brent

Hi, Was looking at the Ross Outdoors huntmap for unit 10. I have a couple map software programs including the National Geographic which I use a lot. Has anyone used the maps Ross Outdoors makes? I like the idea that the whole unit is on one map but not sure if it is worth $54 plus. Brent
-
Hi, We got the Huntmap of unit 10 from Ross Outdoors. Their people were great and sent the map out right away. It's a big, durable, waterproof map that covers the whole unit. I like the map because it covers the overall unit. It gives the roads and a whole lot of general information. It will be great for general scouting. One will have to also use blm maps(two maps) for land ownership and if you are like I am, you will also want a map with more detail for a certain areas. The hunt map was $56 and will last forever. I love this part of the hunt. Good luck scouting! Brent

Hi, I think we are going to end up buying the Ross Outdoors Map. I'll let you all know what I think. When I get home today, I going to look into the blm map; sounds like a good option. I do like my National Graphic topo. Used it a lot but it is hard to print up more than one area at a time. I print up four or so sheets and tape together. It does work. Brent

Hi, Finally got thru at 7:30 this morning. I got my first elk after 14 years trying; unit 10 early September bull archery. The only thing better would have been Courtney drawing. No Antelope tags for us either. I guess one out of four is amazing. I'm still shocked. My second choice. Brent

Courtney's first pig. Made a great 87 yard shot and dropped this pig where it was standing. She was using 95 grain nosler balistic tips in her 243win that she reloaded herself. We had a great last day hunt together. Brent

Here's my first backpack hunt, November 2008. Carried in 56lbs, came out with 98lbs. Most of the weight going in was water. This probally could have be avoided by finding a water source before the hunt and using a filter but did all my scouting in August The question is are you hunting alone or with a partner and what time of year. I'm a loner and wasn't able to send a lot. I bought most of my stuff at sportman's. I bought a slumberjack bivy, slumberjack 10 degree bag and thermarest pad. Total cost was less than a good sleeping bag and only weighed a pound or so more than the middle of the line stuff. Could have saved a few pounds but buying top of the line stuff but for one hunt a year or less, who can really afford it. Borrowed a rapter stove and pot. Used a badland's 4500 which I bought new and really liked. I think a person should buy the best he can afford but unlike your glass most of the stuff you will buy will only be used on this type of hunt and spends alot of time in the garage. Brent

Went out on a afternoon hunt with my nephew. Shot this buck at 12:30 in his bed. Not bad for a fifteen minute hunt. 97 and change Brent
