I think that post was for me. We both work for the Union Pacific railroad and a big part of our lives is balancing our hunts with our job. We never know when we are going to work. Eric watches the board for me and lets me know what is going on. I think he was asking if you can look at a website Thanks again Brent

Thanks Amanda. I will look into it. Maybe I can let everyone know how it works in the mountains of Colorado. Is it pretty lightweight? How about battery life? Brent

My daughter is a sophomore this year at the u of a. We have a three bedroom condo that we bought for her to live at while going to school. She has one roommate and has been looking for another. Her roommate has a cat and the the condo is on the second floor so no yard but the condo is two miles away from campus and there is a big court yard with a pool. Courtney is in ROTC and is studying nursing so isn't at home much. Her roommate is going to Pima. If your sister is still looking and would like to meet the girls let me know. Even if it is temporary, it might work out. Brent

How to dispatch trapped animal?
cohofishing replied to Coues assassin's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
Trapped in Alaska for years. For martin and mink, we just bopped them on the nose then pulled their heart down. Sounds a little cruel now but if you are selling the furs, the buyers do not like bullet holes. For otter, foxes, wolves and such, we did shoot them with a 22. I got real good at sewing up the holes Brent -
ideas on a rifle for my daughter
cohofishing replied to 4Falls's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
My daughter, Courtney is about the same size. She shot her first two deer with a 243win. When I realized she was hooked, I set her up with a 264 win mag with a muzzle break. It kicks lighter than her 243 did and she has killed both elk and deer with it. I agree with Jimmy. You just never know. I have loaned out the 243 to a couple friends just to see if their kid would even enjoy shooting let alone hunting. I hope she gets hooked. Hunting with my daughter is the most enjoyable thing I do every year. Wouldn't trade it for anything. Brent -

AZGFD out of line? Closes 34a bear hunt, and then reopens it???
cohofishing replied to AZBearhunter's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
Two years ago they did it with 35 a and b. Can't remember exactly, but they closed about two weeks into the season and re opened it a month later. Same mistake. At least they caught it before they closed it. I went down and pulled cameras and stands to have them re open it later. It seems like it is hard to count to three -
I couldn't agree with you more on both points. Lag bolts are just away to attach the box to a tree. Bears seem to love cameras and boxes and I have many pictures of the inside of their mouths. It also keeps people from spinning the camera away from the spring which I have had both illegals and hunters do. If someone wants to be a a... and steal someone's camera, they are going to get it done no matter what. The ranger suggested hiding the cameras better which isn't doable at some locations plus once you know where to look, it isn't hard to find them. I was mostly wondering if anyone has had a ranger or office tell them the same thing. Since a commercial business is promoting the idea of using lags with their boxes, it makes me wonder if there is a actual law against or is it simply the range's idea of something that shouldn't be done. I think is should be in writing if it is a law so one can find it and read it. I was just letting the above gentleman know that lags might not be legal in the National forest. And I couldn't stress the fact more that the officer was cool about it. Wasn't saying that he wasn't. Brent

Lock boxes look great. Better than the one's I built. I use lags on mine also which brings up a interesting point. I had a wilderness ranger leave me a note saying that they didn't allow lags to hang cameras but the cameras must be strapped on. We talked through emails through which I tried to ask what law or rule I was breaking by using lags. He replied by saying that because of the drought, for the health of the trees, they did not want lags to be used. Not any real reference to any written rule or law. I have tried researching the subject but found nothing. All my boxes are designed to be hung by lags. So because the holes were already being used, he allowed me to keep the camera's as is. I plan to re-think the lag aspect next year. I know I won't be using nylon straps like he suggested. But I will think of something better to avoid lags. Anyone ever deal with something like this. I not talking about the general thought about leaving things in the woods. (trees stand, cameras, etc) I am asking about lagging a box to a tree. Brent

Who needs a Arizona elk tag. Just found out that I drew my second choice in Colorado. A muzzleloader mule deer tag in September. Add that to the New Mexico unit 23 Burro Mountain mule deer tag that I got lucky enough to draw makes for a busy fall. Guess I am glad that I filled my Arizona deer tag in January. Brent

Congrats on a great first bear. Trying to get a Arizona bear myself. Awesome that your son was there. Ready2hunt is right. They do dye the skin to hide the rubs and summer coat. One of my brown bears was rubbed pretty bad but the taxidermist was able to hide it pretty well. When I do finally get one myself, I plan on letting Jerry do a half body mount standing on a log or a rock. Brent

Did four tags the other day. Worked fine and got charged but no emails for me either. Sounds like Colorado might have had problems with their on line draw. I thought their's was bullet proof. Still waiting to hear if I drew

if you have the spring archery bear tag, you had better hurry up!
cohofishing replied to AZLance's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
Two years ago, during the archery bear season, they shut down the lower end of 35a due to a fire in the area (it had started across the border). It was re-opened after the fire was put out. If they do close the Coronado due to fire risks, do they give you any warning or heads up that it is going to happen? Is that what the different levels are about? I have six cameras that I would like to get out of there if it is going to happen. As far as keeping people out, there will be people running thru those mountains, closed or not. I hope they don't close it due to risks but sadly, if there is a fire, it is going to close anyway. Let's hope for rain. It was raining in Lordsburg when I went thru there yesterday. Brent -
I have the older, heavier model. Been using it for over six years. I like it so much that I use it even if I am camping by the truck. It is a little heavier than other stoves but the reviews on it by other hunters were great and I have no complaints. I would love to up grade to the flash cooking system carbon. At 14 oz, it is like 7 oz lighter than my older one. Can't go wrong with a jet boil Brent
