Has anyone experienced hunting southern California near Alpine, I hear there are good bit of turkeys in Cleveland National Forest and considering heading over for their fall hunt in November.
-
I just recently retired an live in the northeast valley having access to Mcdowell Mountains and Rio Verde and was hoping for some help in hunting this coming December and January. As a avid hiker and runner, I know there are nice mule deer in the Unit but never seen anyone hunting archery for them. Any suggestions on how to approach a OTC hunt.

Awesome weekend. Went up to 6B on Thursday to set up camp and recheck areas from prior weekend. Turkeys were running a little earlier than week before but still came into tanks at 5:15. Opening was head out before dawn and walk the ridges surrounding tanks and locate their roost. By mid morning had three opportunities on over 30 birds including being busted by 4 Jake’s. Evening all hens so let them pass in hoping for a Tom. Second day same and by 10 had a flock of 30 to 40 pass me by at 70 yards I watched them feed at 100 yards for an hour, calling softly only to have them respond and return to my location. I was able to set up on taking a 25 yard shot on hen and couldn’t be happier. First turkey. Box checked and looking forward to another hunt.

I will be in 6B solo hunting and from my last weekend trip very hopefull on my first ever fall turkey hunt, though I am going to try to be very selective on shooting a Tom. But that could change by first light.

yes, I am in the same situation, I am heading up to 6b the week before for friend elk hunt. So what was your fall hunts like as to being successful?
-
Being new to hunting turkey, the past few years I have put in for both spring and fall and drew a tag for 6B this coming October. Being from back east where back in the 80's and 90's the fall turkey hunts coincided with whitetail archery and I always enjoyed seeing turkeys and having the options to switch during the course of the day, which can be very productive. Now the dilemma, I was all good in heading up north for 6B hunt, but all my friends keep telling me I am loosing the opportunity for a spring hunt where success would be higher in bagging a Gobbler by burning my points for the up-coming fall hunt. So I have milled this thought should I surrender my tag and hold off for a possible spring hunt (with 3 points) or enjoy the woods and if luck has it bag a bird. I have to figure in at 67 years young, there are only so many years to point save. As always to my fellow AHF members, your thoughts are greatly appreciated

As a newbie to turkey hunting and retiring this coming fall from LEO, I am hoping to hunt whenever I can, including traveling outside of my home state of Arizona. California and New Mexico are on my hit list for top states to hunt turkey both in the spring and fall depending on my luck in both the AZGFD and San Carlos Indian Reservation and would love to hear thoughts, YouTube makes it all look so simple and I know there is a lot of wilderness to cover for success, fortunately there is On X Hunt maps but if anyone would like to offer some suggestions, mentoring for NM and CA turkey hunts it would be greatly appreciated.

Awesome, would you use decoys while sitting on water?
-
Thoughts appreciated here, I plan to sit on water and due to my hunt being in the fall like to use decoys. I have been told that hens, Jake's and gobblers will rafter/flock up separately, if so does anyone have gobblers or Jake's Dave Smith Decoys for sale, like to set up on water with decoys, again any thoughts on my game plan.
