Nice meeting you out there. You and your son looked to be having a great time. Too bad the evening hunt didn't pan out but sounds like it was still a wild success.

Where have all the good bucks gone?
cjw2222 replied to Whitey's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
From personal experience, and lots of it in 23, the unit is looking fantastic. I have been seeing quite a few mature bucks this year and last. My cousin and good family friend both pulled out 105+ bucks on the juniors hunt this year in 3 days of hunting. And to be honest, I wouldn't judge the quality of a huge unit like 23 based on a single outing... I usually spend 30+ days in 23 every year and I still can't cover enough ground to judge the unit... -
Best of luck to you on the hunt, sure wish I had an opportunity like that! And may you have even more luck getting across the border. My Dad hunts Mexico for Coues every year and there's always a new story of him nearly going to jail trying to get his rifle and ammunition across the line...

That just put a pit in the bottom of my stomach. I can't even express how terrible that is. And to think I had many friends and family members out hunting during that storm. The calculated risk we take every time we step foot into the woods needs to be taken seriously and safe trips appreciated. My prayers will be with the family tonight

I know as of this morning the 260 still had 8 to 12 inches on the ground and there's still snow in and around Young although not a ton anymore. So I think you should be alright just dress warm, temp this morning read 3 degrees...If you believe Christian's word...

It looks great! I like the look of it placed on the body panel and not glass. And what's up with the black??? Some kind of "exclusive" color or what?????

I have also looked into this fairly thoroughly, although not as much as Lark I am sure, and the wolves in AZ scare the piss outta me. On an AES fence removal project this summer I saw my first AZ wolf and while it was incredible, it left a pit in my stomach. Lions and coyotes hunt an "area" of land from which they roam for any food they can find. Wolves, however, hunt a "herd" not an area. It is their nature to follow herds until they have decimated it at which time they find another heard and follow it until it goes extinct. The problem is instead of taking one or two animals here and there, they take out multiple generations of the same gene pool leaving it completely nonexistent. For a state that prides itself on trophy quality animals, this is particularly alarming. I am all for restoring AZ to the land it once was, but the sacrifice our survived animals, ranchers, hunters, and taxpayers pay is no where near the gain of having free ranging wolves imo. Disclaimer: I am sure some do not believe this hunting strategy to be true but it is what I have heard and read and what I personally believe... .$02 Side Note: What GAIN comes out of having wolves in AZ save the whole restoration of indigenous animals thing??

Without giving up any of your "spots," where are these guys normally found? General areas work for me... -
Congrats!! And I really think you see a side of someone that never comes out in normal life when they get a kill, especially the first!

Ex-ASU football player convicted of murder An Arizona jury laid down a murder-2 conviction for Loren Wade, the ex-Arizona State football player we reported on earlier who found with steroids in his blood. Report here by AzStarNet. Former Arizona State running back Loren Wade was convicted Thursday of second-degree murder in the slaying of another ex-Sun Devils football player. The 23-year-old Wade was on trial for first-degree murder in the death of Brandon Falkner, who was shot outside a Scottsdale nightclub on March 26, 2005. Prosecutors claimed Falkner was shot because Wade saw him talking to his girlfriend. Falkner was 25........... Redman AMEN Redman! And yes, he is still there...

Prayers sent to you TJ. May you enjoy a speedy recovery. I know how scary appendix's can be. I had mine rupture and I played it off in typical male fashion. Finally fainted at home and was given a 25% chance of living. It ruptured, spilled over 2 liters of fluid into my abdomen, and then proceeded to wrap itself around my intestines. I made it out alright and I know you will too. Stay strong and find strength in the prayers of all of us.

BEAR DOWN ARIZONA!! 3 POINT VICTORY

I will admit that jumping back over the wall after preparing to rush the field was a little embarassing... But nothing near as embarrassing as seeing the cheerleader get struck with that water bottle. Or seeing Masoli get bombarded with assorted objects (including batteries). That kind of stuff is unacceptable and a shame for all of us actually there and watching the game respectfully. While it was a tough loss, we had a chance to win that game and go to the rose bowl. Was there any talk of ASU going there this year SunDevil??? :P And NOTHING will beat David Haselhoff(?) last year when he, somehow, got into the student section during games and proceeded to douse everyone around him in constant beer showers and slurred rants!

Recently I took out myself and 4 others to go out for a nice day of scouting and target shooting outside of Tucson. While heading out to a well-known spot, I lost control of my truck and plowed off the road and flipped it once. Now for the extended version: Last month I blew my slave and master cylinder in my tacoma and spend an entire month chipping away at the needed work to get her back on the road. I finally finished and couldn't wait to get back on some dirt. So I drove it around town for a day then headed out for a nice relaxing day in the field. I took out 2 girls who rode in the cab with me and 2 other guys who rode in the bed. We were on a freshly graded double-wide dirt road when i rounded an easy fight hand turn at approx 20-25mph. At the apex I depressed the clutch to coast through the rest of the turn. I was in complete control until i noticed the transmission was still engaged. To my demise I panicked and whipped the wheel hard right. Oversteer took over and sent me in a slow drift to the inside right of the road and i spun the wheel back to the left and then understeer kicked in. With the clutch depressed and the transmission still in gear we plowed into the berm along the side of the road on the left We slid sideways down the hill running alongside the road until i struck a roughly 250 pound rock with the right tire. The truck then bucked to the left and rolled 3/4 and ended on its passenger side A pillar. One passenger in the bed was launched airborne from the berm and watch the truck rotate around his airborne body and then landed on a cactus. The other one in the bed was thrown to the ground and broke his wrist immediately. The three of us in the cab, seatbelts on, faired better and came to a rest without any serious injuries. Panic took over and we all began franticly checking over each other for physical harm. 911 was called and within 20 minutes we had 9 EMT vehicles and a plethora of good samaritans at our side. All of whom could not believe our good fortune. Only the passenger withe the broken wrist was taken to the hospital where doctors rebroke the wrist and discharged him that night. As bad as this situation is for me and as guilty as I feel, I also feel there are a number of miracles that happened that day that deserve to be mentioned and considered by all. First, this happened at a time that could not have been more beneficial. We are all in college, an intermittent time in ones life spent entirely focused on the future with no concept of the present and all the beauty it spills every day, and are so stressed with school we forget about the blessings that come with each day ended in safety and sound spirits. Modern society is so infatuated with measuring happiness through tangible goods, successes, and failures that is is far too easy to overlook the small things in everyday life. Second, we will all make a full physical recovery which the odds of which are nearly 0 given the crash. I remember after calling 911 looking up to God and begging for help, pleading for help, screaming for help. Little did I know, he was one step ahead of me as always. Third, when all of us go out in the woods, we take a calculated risk that is sometimes forgotten. I fail to realize the good fortune that comes when I return from a trip unscathed. More important than a kill or trophy, the time spent in the woods is the greatest blessing of it all and please remember to appreciate it. I apologize for the preaching but I am deeply moved and very emotional about this whole incident and I hope by writing this that it affects just one person enough to take the time each day to give thanks for all that the day has brought. Should you happen to believe in a higher power, whoever it may be, please send a thanks, raise a glass, tip your hat, or fold your hands towards them this evening as you lie down and give thanks. I would also like to thank Amanda and the whole CouesWhitetail family. I met Christian (AZcouesandelk) a few years ago through this site and it developed into a lasting friendship that has changed my life forever. I want to thank Christian for his continued support through this traumatic time. You have always been there for me and are always the first to offer everything you have to help a friend. Thanks for reading and safe hunting, Cory Worischeck
