    Million dollar whitetail

oh man that coues sanctuary makes me sick to my stomach every time i see it. Until this website i thought our beloved coues had escaped the farm raising epidemic that has swept eastern WT. Then i learned otherwise...

    BRD BIG Ram Down!!

HOLY SMOKES!!! What a smoker ram congratulations to your dad on a fantastic kill. I love how massive that thing is. it always makes it that much more meaningful when people put the time into a writeup along with stellar pics and your post included both. I especially like the second one of glassing, a great picture in anyones book.

How hard do you shed hunt?

Ok so whats the consensus on shed hunting. is it pick a "good" spot and glass em like i do elk sheds or are they too hard to spot because of their size?
  5. and does anyone know how far away this is from tucson??
  6. Great Lance, Looks like you might see a new CW.com member at the event. Ill try and PM you soon and ask you some other Q's i have

    Unit 22 Javelina

well i was sure excited about my archery javy hunt there but that sounds rather depressing. maybe i'll head up a day or two early and fill up my truck with trash
  10. So i have been a lurker around here for about 2 months now and finally made an account after the site was kind enough to send me a huge CW decal which i am proudly presenting on my truck. but my question to you is what does this site do for you in terms of buck fever? Because it KILLS ME!! Before my elk hunt i had terrible bull fever and couldnt concentrate on anything else for the month leading up to the hunt and that was without a forum now the CW.com my december coues hunt is taking over my life even more. I log in a few times a day and stare at monster bucks and read all the new posts and literature and it gets me going so bad i havent slept well in weeks. All of your stories and pictures just get my blood going. Its also to see such a tightly knit community which all appreciates a special deer i have hunted with my dad since i could walk. You all are more than helpful with my questions and never hesitate to PM with advice and or other things. So does the site help calm your fever prior to a hunt or does it only magnify it like in my case? And sorry if this is in the wrong place, i couldnt find a better location.
  11. My father was lucky enough to draw the 12A west late hunt on the Kaibab. My father had done this same hunt some 15 years ago and still had the topos marked with his honeyholes. We knew coming in that this is a migration hunt and following individual bucks would prove very difficult so we did not scout much but rather looked for terrain that would be best given the temperature and time of year. The first day we stayed low and froze our a** off thanks to sub 10 degree weather. It got so bad we started making fires at our glassing locations just to keep from shivering so bad we couldnt see through the binos. The next day we ended up in the upper burn portion after hearing of some big bucks being sighted and killed. It proved to be a near perfect place, it allowed a longer viewing distance and also contained very very tall grass which the deer seemed to love. We hunted hard all this past weekend and passed up a few 170-175 bucks to hold out for that stereotypical kaibab buck. I had to leave on Sunday to drive all the way back to Tucson before classes started on monday and as luck would have it my dad got a shot. He shot at the buck of his dreams just hours after i left but couldnt connect due to the plethora of burned jack pines getting in the way. So with hopes high of seeing another biggen, he set off for another few days of hunting with long time family friend Ty Goodman. Well it wasnt a day later before he had a buck on the ground. I strained my ear to the phone as he was describing it. While he claimed it was no Kaibab trophy, I sure dont agree. He doesnt have and junk and is missing an eyeguard but other than that a great harvest. And that night in camp they had a Condor fly in and land on their truck. It stayed their all night and would not leave them alone despite there being no food left outside or given to it. So the next day they called the appropriate people about it and they came right away, captured it, and said it would be held in captivity for 2 years to somehow train it not to be social to humans. I thought is sounded crazy but i guess it does work and those things can live to be over 50 years old so at least its not ruining its whole life. Anyways i finally took some pictures of the hunt. let me know what ya think...

    Unseasonable weather

yup chalk another one up for seein them this time of year. Although I have only seen one to date. but i can assure you my four pet ones in the backyard have long since retired to their caves
  13. Edit: looks like they are the same buck. thanks wetmule for bringing it to my attention. http://www.muleycrazy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=118
  14. actually i just got a link to a post where a guy just pulled a 240 out of the unit. it was the first buck he saw during the hunt. pure dumb blind luck ill see if i cant find that link again. the thing is a toad

what is your bow hunting style?

If ya want a challenge with a chance of seein bigger buck and having bigger bragging rights then definately the spot and stalk. although this will require much practice and skill/luck for you to get a kill. but its the only way i have ever seen and will ever bow hunt any thing unless its callin in bull elk for that buglin gets me hotter than the cows he's after

    Over Too Soon

Awesome write up!! that really gets the old bull fever goin again. And great pictures, i finally learned that taking pictures is one of the best ways to relive and enjoy the hunt after it is over. What a monster bull you got there. TONS of character from the eyeguards to the huge mass and palmation. looks like he messed up his right side during velvet which really adds to the uniqueness of the bull. Congrats on a great hunt

    Pack Pod

I just got back from a weekend glassing up some monster carp in 12A and used my dad's outdoorsmans pistol grip ball head with your jim white pan attachment and let me tell you it was a treat. I think i might like it just as much if not more than the pan head. it was very easy to go horizontal with your eyes and them move down and repeat. definately faster than the traditional pan head just not as conventional. i think you should keep it in your options but the jim white pan head is also a great choice. ether way you really can't go wrong

    Unit 23 monster?

Ok so i spend the weekend up hunting 12A west with long time family friend Ty Goodman at Goodman Outfitters and he gave me permission to post the pics of the buck he helped bring down. he says he's gonna give me pics of that buck, which is a 4x4 my apologies, and his nephews that was tagged the same week that scores almost as high. two awesome bucks that yall will love seein. now just gotta wait for him to get back from huntin them dang carp

Lions and mule deer /Western Hunter magazine

I was actually going to post about this as well. An amazing writeup that really puts things in persepective.
  23. advice: try hunting on the border of the Saguaro National Forest but in all seriousness i think what most will tell you is scout now for terrain and once you have some great vantage point, GLASS. glass, glass until you don't think you can anymore. for these little guys can blend in with dang near anything and only the most persistent hunters are fortunate enough to spot em. If you don't have good optics, or any for that matter, i would strongly suggest looking into a pair of 12x or 15x binos. as far as which one, go as high up the list as your $ allows. Past that just make sure to have a great hunt!
