No idea why BUT I have been trying to put up a "profile picture" up for a month now and it won't let me. I tried today and it worked like a charm. I'm a fan of the new skin!

Is a guided hunt as satisfying as do-it yourself?
cjw2222 replied to lousyhunter's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
To reiterate and on to what has already been said. i think there are many instances where a guided hunt is necessary and every bit as rewarding as a DIY hunt. I will be the first to tell you there is nothing like really earning your animal, but what if you live out of state? want to get into hunting but dont have the experience to DIY yet? i mean everyone needs to learn at least a little about hunting from others right? Maybe your an avid hunter but your job doesn't allow for you to take off the time needed to scout and take two weeks off for a full hunt? I agree that for the person that can afford the time to scout and hunt hard will feel better if they do it all on their own. But i also agree that our "hobby" needs guides for a number of reasons. Now I just hope nobody bring up Spidey, last thing we need is a replay of that MM topic  -
I was hiking this year, probably 3 miles from the nearest road, during my turkey hunt and i stumbled upon a little rubber turkey figurine that looks like it goes on top of a car antenna. I looked at my buddy and said "were gonna kill a turkey today." Well later that night we killed my first turkey after 3 previous unsuccessful hunts. It now resides on top of the shifter for my truck. Now every where i go, it goes too. It's a great, and kinda hick, conversation starter and always gets a good chuckle out of unassuming passengers... Wether or not it's actually good luck is beyond me, but i sure dont take any chances

X2 I usually see the small guys do all the hard work (round up the does and push them), then i January the big boys come in and kick the little guys out. They just wait until all the work has been done. Pretty dang smart if ya ask me

-
Looks like a good cat. you goin after him??

I thought oh great somebody new killed a 100" buck and made it to the 100 club but no... You guys just skipped a club and went into the elite 110" club. not fair! But in all honesty congratulations on a fantastic animal. he has got a very unique rack on him!

Congrats on a VERY successful hunt! Those browtines and thirds are killer on that thing. But i think you meant to say unit 9 or 10 because 23 doesn't have any decent bulls
-
Fantastic Buck!! I sure wouldn't mind seein some side pictures of that rack...

Thats one of the toughest elk hunts i know of. youre gonna have to look waaaay back to find the bigger bulls. The cows are everywhere on this hunt but the bulls tuck themselves away in some nasty country. I had 6 bulls runnin together ( 4 were over 300 and 2 over 350) in that unit last year around this time and we cant find ANY of them this year Best of luck on the hunt

This past summer I was watching jack brittingham's north american hunter 5 on DVD with azcouesandelk and just as the movie ends they show Sam Moore playing "Mountain Range." Fast forward to three weeks ago and i decided to pick up his CD and all i can say is WOW!!! If you have yet to hear his songs you really ought to if your into country at all. he sings of bugling elk, trucks, and anything you can think of relating to our lifestyle. So i have had the CD for about 2 weeks now and everyone around me is goin crazy cause its literally all i can listen to now. His lyrics are true and down to earth much like a modern day Chris Ledoux. If you havent heard his CD and are lookin for some of the best huntin tunes out there i would highly suggest givin him a listen. Anyone else heard or love his songs or am i just crazy?
