How did the tourney end up?
-
You do not need speed... Ask Randy Ulmer, guy has killed more trophies than probably all of us combined. (not really, but he has killed a crazy amount of giants). He shoots heavy, heavy arrows at a slower speed. Heavy and slower than 300fps = quiet bow, more penetration, more consistent broadhead flight. Mathews are slow? Go shoot an MR5 and tell me how slow it is. just as fast as any of Pete Shepleys experiments.

What in the world did he do to get banned?

There are no big bulls in 7W. Stay in 9 and 10, that's where all the big bulls live

LIP CURL!!!! that is an awesome photo!!

Top buck looks like a 170-175" frame. Then add on his 15" of extra points, I say he is in the 190" range.

If you could any unit, any time of the year.....

Unit 23 3rd week in January -
Triple 7 pellets are much easier to load/carry than loose powder IMO.

No doubt Bear spray is very effective on bears. I just have a hard time justifying carrying bear spray for bears, hand gun for bad humans and bow for my intended quarry.

We are talking about Arizona black bears, not Alaskan grizzlies. .40 cal is just fine. I personally carry a 40 cal glock and usually stagger hollow points and mix in a few fmj's for good measure. As stated above, I am wayyyyy more worried about the 2 legged bears than the 4. While I have never personally shot a bear, I have been on a few kills, and their fur is not as tough as most think IMO. Bottom line is, if you are that unlucky to run into a bear in Arizona that charges you, the tribe has spoken. Make sure you are with a friend at all times while hunting. A 40 cal will surely go thru his knee cap, and then it is easy to out run him. Problem solved!!

3 1/4 is dram equivilant, which basically means amount of powder. 1oz would be how much shot is in the shell.

$300 is not really charging you. As you stated, he is not a buddy just an old acquaintance. If you do not have anyone that is close to you that can teach you, $300 is pretty cheap. I say take him up on his offer, and find out what he does different. If $300 is a lot of money for you to afford at the current time, ask some guys from this site to show you the ropes. Lots will show you something for some cold beer and a good meal.

Just hide your cameras better!!!!!!!! I have never had one stolen, I have never put a camera on a water source. Do not assume you know who stole it. If you did not see them, just suck it up, be the bigger guy, cut your losses and build a bridge. Life is too short to get so pissed that you could potentially ruin the next few years of your life over a $100-$200 camera.

Are we going to get another video this year of your hit list for elk? That video gets me pumped up, and I have a tag this year, so I am even more pumped than usual.

Scope Mounting Question
123456 replied to Broken Wheels's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Bad scope!!! I will take that bulged, bent swaro off your hands and dispose of it for you!! Glad to see you kept that off of your Encore, that scope was very tempting the first time you listed those Encores. As for your scope mounting problem, Sounds like maybe a bad base. Are you able to put the screws in without the scope? If so, since it is DNZ I assume it is a 1 piece mount. If so, I would almost be certain the mount is bad, or your really do have a scope that is bent from previous installation. If it is a 2 piece mount, although not very common, your holes in the top of your gun's reciever could be drilled crooked. I used to see this in about 1-100 rifles. -
With lag bolts, I like to pre drill them with a drill bit that is about half the size of the lag bolt. Then if you have it, I use an impact driver with a socket to screw them in. If not, use a ratchet and socket.

Zeiss 4.5-14 on Camofire.com right now new @ $629.99

lag bolts for elk. Make sure you are in a stud.

Every time I make jerky, I have this fear of it going bad too fast. How long is it good for if it is refridgerated? I usually only give it 2-3 days, then I get paranoid and start eating it in big bunches to get rid of it.

The Bulls in the above pics I think are somewhere in the 250's. If you like them shoot them. No need to let anything grow another year if you are happy with him. Who are you letting him grow for anyway? Chances are you will not get another tag next year, so you will not be letting him grow so you can harvest him when he is bigger. Trophy is in the eye of the shooter.

Your avatar could be deceiving but probably somewhere in the 300-310 range

Thanks!!! That is a Bad A looking rifle, and had me very, very tempted to get another AR. Looks like a great deal on a great rifle.

Lifesize mount is usually 1k$ or more. Putting a value on Taxidermy is tough. It's kind of like antiques. The value is what someone is willing to pay for it. I am sure you are aware that condition and how good the work is, will greatly increase or decrease the value.

Vortex. If it was a VX iii I would go Leupold. Vortex's HS series are a good value.
