    Thoughts on Baiting

I consider myself pretty far to the right wing, but sometimes reules and regulations are needed. This is the ever changing reality of game management. As we hunters begin to get too successful, Game and fish must make changes accordingly. Those are the facts. Taking away baiting, is a lot easier than trying to put rules and restrictions on methods of take. i.e. bows that only shoot 220fps, no carbon arrows, 3 pin sights only. Baiting is not that big of a deal, I have used it, and didn't shoot anything off of my pile of bait. Funny thing is, most of you that use bait, say it doesn't make you more successful, but you continue using it. Sounds like foot in mouth disease. Why waste your money on something that doesn't increase your odds? Seems like a HUGE waste of money. Most of you ask for game and fish to call it like it is, (the reason for the ban is too much success, not CWD.) But you will not own up that baiting does in fact increase the odds. I fully expect them to go after trail cameras next. Will I be happy, that I can no longer use my cameras, NO. The thing is, it will help get rid of our lazy trend that America is falling into. Could you imagine if you would actually have to get in your truck and go scouting every weekend if you wanted to see what was in your area for weeks at a time. I am defintely not a big supporter of Game and fish's practices, however I see this as not that big of a deal. To each their own. I like liberal archery deer seasons, and if we continue to harvest deer and many other animals at a higher rate each year, Things will have to change. I appreciate them looking at small measures to affect success, rather than doing the easy thing and just taking away days out of the season. Mandatory harvest reporting is the answer to many of their problems.

    Thoughts on Baiting

we used to be able to hunt does in January, that went away. In 12a, they really need to get a handle on buck to doe ratio's. There is no competion for does. It is not uncommon to see a half horned forkie breeding 15 does. He doesn't have to fight off any deer

    Thoughts on Baiting

I believe game and fish needs to state it like it is. Do not use CWD as a cover. That might be a very small underlyeing result of baiting, but the real reason to ban it is the high success rates. I use bait, and trust me, all of you who say it does not help you shoot more deer are only in denial. Most, ( not all) trail cameras seem to be on a bait pile. We used to put them on water sources, but they were getting stolen to frequently. I know guys who couldn't shoot their way out of a box, but one of them managed to arrow 2 coues deer in 4 months in Arizona. He baited on Mt. Ord and had Whitetails coming in like clock work. Fact is, whitetails definetly pattern easier than Muleys and are easier to kill over bait. There is a reason that all the baits have come on the market in the last 7 years. They WORK!!!!!!!. Otherwise, we would try them once, find out they are crap and never waste our money again. If it is over harverst concearns, AZGFD should own it. Just my .02 cents. MANDATORY REPORTING NEEDS TO BE USED ON ALL HUNTS!!!! Much more accurate #'s are the key to management. I would gladly trade baiting to keep our liberal Archery seasons. All of us know, if G&F doesn't get their way, they will just take it the next year.

    Scope crosshair help!!

Do what you are thinking. Burris is a great company and will take care of you. Here in AZ, the sales rep offered to let people take one of his sample scopes and use them on a hunt. I see no reason why the one in NM will not. call Burris, tell them your situation and ask them if you can get in contact with your local rep. I would be willing to bet he or she will let you sample one of their top end scopes. Whatever you do, do not try and hunt with that scope. The last thing you want is for it to fail while on the hunt. Contact Burris first thing tommorrow and I am sure you will get an outstanding resolution to your problem.

    Long wait to bowhunt

Bear hunting defintely perks my interest, I love wackin' turkeys with arrows, but i have a hard time going solely after turkeys. I have killed a couple with my bow, but both have been while deer hunting. I love bird hunting, just not turkeys. Since they are the size of a goose,(maybe a little bigger) I think we should be able to harvest 3 dark and 3 white. Just kidding I have plenty to do this year, most of my good buddies have tags and I have just decided to help out on their hunts as much as possible. It's what I call hunting Karma. I just started thinking that, I might have enough points to draw a kaibab hunt next year, do I try and shoot another deer in january and forego the draw again. I feel like if I do not atleast attempt to deer hunt next January, my bow may turn on me. I think another trip to Texas is in my near future. Boy are those hogs fun to hunt. P.S. Kaibab hunter- good luck on your upcoming 13 tag and I hope you nail a monster.

Well above 100. Maybe in the 110's. It's easier to score him when he has no air in him.
  12. Did you just get the foxpro? I remember you wanting a new one a few weeks ago. Why are you selling this one?

Camping Rcommendations to Hear Elk Bugle

Anywhere up by bear canyon lake. Lots of elk bugling and lots of camp spots. The only issue up there is the amount of people. You should still be able to get away from crowds if you try to.
  16. Tough to say, I wouldn't make my decision until i saw him in person. If he comes in and he is in obvious pain, I would put him down. If he looks healthy and just looks like he took a hit from a car and can survive, maybe let him go another year. judging by his legs and face, I would say he is not in good shape and it might be the right thing to do by putting an arrow in him. It's possible that Game and Fish will issue you another tag, if they feel he was in grave condition or the meat is no good. I wouldn't rely on this, but sometimes we as hunters need to do the right thing, even though you have higher hopes on horn length.

    CABIN ROBBED/MOUNTS STOLEN

I love it when the scumbags get busted. I only wish a little street justice was done to this guy before the police caugh up to him. He will be out of jail in less than a few years, and right back at it again.

    Simple Question- 1.5" or 2"

Don't care how big the cut, just use a fixed blade. I like 1 1/6 cut on a fixed. Seems to be a lethal dose everytime.
  20. http://www.azgfd.gov/w_c/nongameandendangeredwildlifeprogram/Black-tailedPrairieDog.shtml Looks like this link says they are trying to re-introduce them to Arizona. Which is why this guy got in so much trouble.
  21. I may be wrong on this, but If you look in the regs, I can not find a season on black tailed praire dogs. I believe we are only able to shoot gunnison's.
  22. I think you guys have it wrong here. This case is about shooting an endangered specie prairie dog, not a regular praire dog. I think that makes a big difference. Calling for his resignation is just ridiculous. Lance, if you ever get convicted of committing a hunting crime, are you going to give up guiding. Even if it is something as minor as shooting a dang praire dog when they are out of season. Give this guy a break. Most of these people that get their license suspended really are dirt bags. Atleast own up to shooting a praire dog, not saying you were trying to shoot a coyote and shot the praire dog. That is a blatent lye and should be punished accordingly. Man up and admit your mistake.
