Great pictures Scott and good luck to your son and Doug! I will be looking for you to post the pictures of em on the ground.

They will still let you through on the east side of the main road up into the canyon if you stop at the house and ask but the whole west side is locked up without exception all though they said I could walk in. In the Dos you can still drive up the road that goes to the towers but it does not get you very far before the gate is locked. Still provides you with a lot of hiking opportunities. AZDave do you own land around the Silver Strike area? The only Peloncillo Mountains that I knew about are North of San Simon. For first timers I would recommend lions park (happy camp on the map) and hike in towards Goverment Peak or off the Rucker road. The last time I was on the Geronimo Trail you could still get through and the Outlaw mountain does hold some great deer.

AZ Dave and 5.8, They (the snure ranch) locked up last year right before the Nov. hunt you can still drive through their land and right by the house on the East side of the main road but that is all you have for access any more. You can still park by the old cemetary and walk into the west side but it makes for a long day. I have been down there twice this year and have seen a few decent bucks. The Peloncillo's aren't in 30A are they? I have a tag for the Nov hunt and will be in the Pedegrossas. There is only one road for access that is not locked off and it takes over an hour to get there from the highway but it is worth the drive. In the Dos Cabeza's isn't the road up to the towers still locked by the Klumps? I know that you can go in by the mine and up to the catchment, over to lion's park, or up sheep's canyon but that is the only roads that I know of that will get you somewhat close to the mountains. I have hunted them all frequently and had good success but with the areas so locked off there is just a ton of people even when you hike in. As far as hunting the rucker canyon area you can with out too much trouble but make sure you are on the south side of the road or you will be in unit 29 instead of 30A. This area probably holds the most chance for some one new to the unit. I hunt 30A or 29 just about every year and think that there is amble opportunity but you have to work hard for it.

also need a little input
cramerhunts replied to JBONE777's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
I would have to agree with Treestand man on his guess. It is hard to tell at the angle of the picture but he has good width and good beam length, a little thin on mass but a good buck none the less. -
Beautiful picture of a beautiful buck that I would guess to be 100-105". Great job on the placement of the camera.

Great pictures and thanks for sharing them with us. -
Beautiful Bull! Congratulations! You should be very proud and he will make a great mount. I think you will like the results of putting a tape on him for a gross score. I am going to say 378 5/8. Let us know and thanks again for the pics. Phil

deercaine or blackmagic
cramerhunts replied to m1280's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Well the black magic was not getting used at all. I had put out a block as well and it was already half gone with a lot of sign all around. The bucks would never come in while it was light but I did stay in my stand and got to hear them and just see their outlines in the dark. I don't know if I will have a chance to get back out before the end of season or not but I still have a Nov. rifle tag for the area. I found this buck while walking out one night. -
Got my deer yesterday

deercaine or blackmagic
cramerhunts replied to m1280's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I can't stand it anymore....I've got my gear loaded and leaving work at noon today to go set the stand I will post when I return....Hopefully with one less tag! -
A buddy of mine that I work with is wanting to buy a new left-hand bow here in the valley. We work in Peoria and I would like to know where to send him to get him set up. I shoot a bow-tech liberty vft and he really likes my set up and would like to get something similar. Any suggestions? Does Sportsmens Warehouse still set up bows or are did they downsize their archery section?

deercaine or blackmagic
cramerhunts replied to m1280's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Well I checked the areas that I had put out the black magic and the block with some interesting results. The black magic area hadn't been touched except by a bear that appears to just be curious but the deer co block had been hammered. I spotted a group of seven bucks leaving the block when I was walking in...can't wait until I can get to sit that stand, to bad I have to wait for the Labor Day weekend to get out there. I am wondering if I should put out some of the water softener pellets where I had put the black magic or would that be too much minerals in the same area? -
He ended up buying a new hoyt from corner archery, he went way over his budget but is really happy with the bow and the service from the store. Thanks for your help guys.

Here's a couple of pics for you guys

Great photos and great bucks! Good luck on the bow hunt. -
I went down to 30A this last weekend to put out some of the Deer Co. Black Magic and found this decent shed on my way to the stand. Saw a group of five bucks in the general area so I hope this Black Magic stuff works.
-
I will be down in 30A sitting a trail to water with some Black Magic thrown in. Can't get away untill Labor Day Weekend though so I have to wait longer than most.
-
I have been out a couple of times down in 30A and seen a few decent bucks but nothing to get too excited about. I have seen more fawns this year than I have in a long time. I have noticed the acorns and have found the whitetail and bears both munching on them but haven't gotten any to stay still long enough for the camera.

deercaine or blackmagic
cramerhunts replied to m1280's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I just picked up some of the black magic and one of the deercaine blocks that I am going to put out this weekend and am curious as well as what and how many will use it. I would be interested in any info you guys could provide as well. -
I drew the Nov. 30A on my last choice this year and I will hunt it. I have hunted this unit for a lot of years and had good success but with a lot of work. The limited access makes it possible to get away from your average weekend warrior if you are willing to put the effort in. You still can get into skeleton canyon but by walking in. The main road coming in from Douglas is still open but locked at the ranch. The same is true with the Dos Cabezas if you don't mind the hike.

He is looking for a new one $500-700
