fancy meeting you here, lol. Nice sheds again.

add another for the Vortex rangefinder. Mine is practically useless past 600 yards for anything smaller than a barn.

I'm a fan of Leupold as well, but other than their Mark5 all of their scopes are better for hunting. Which is fine. I would just have a hard time pushing my rifle past 800 yards and I'd like to attempt 1200 yards or so with it. My buddy has the VX5HD firedots on his hunting rifles and it's very nice. Hopefully I'm able to pick one of those up too.

I'm between a Burris XTR3i, Bushnell DMR3 Elite Tactical, and Leupold Mark 5HD for my rifle I'm building. They're all somewhat heavy, but its going to be a dual purpose long-range shooting and hunting rig. At any rate, Vortex is not on the list.

Still haven't found any. Its probably my ineptitude more than anything though

lol, that lemon party wasn't anything to get excited about anyways.

beautiful bird, congratulations

Congratulations! I saw this on an instagram post earlier, but I had to reread the entire story. What a blessing. Can't think of someone more deserving of this kind of generosity and luck. Thanks for the writeup

I third scouting. You want to teach your kid not only the prep that goes into a hunt, but that hard work does pay off, and you want to be in areas with lots of opportunity for success. I also suggest getting the kid lots of practice time shooting whatever rifle they plan on using. Not just from a bench, but off of a bipod/tripod or laying over a pack, like they'll probably be doing during the hunt. Set a realistic goal for their maximum range based off of their performance and stick to that.

I got stuck on the Mesa last year during OTC archery. Took two hours to get my truck out. That clay is no joke

off-topic question, but what suppressor is that? I just bought an Origin action and am going to build a similar rifle in .308

If you're making a trip soon let me know, I'll tell you of a few holes I saw some nice fish in this week.

Practicing Shots in the Field
Savageman2506 replied to CannonBallZ's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
practice your basic marskmanship off of a bench, get comfortable making hits on a paper plate sized object at 100 to 300 yards, then start practicing from seated positions. Buy a box of ammo every paycheck, and practice taking your time and really making your shots count. By fall you'll have 1-200 rounds downrange and will feel much more confident. Get a good cleaning kit as well and clean every 50 rounds or so, maybe more depending on your particulars. Once you've mastered within 300 yards, then start stretching it out. -
Practicing Shots in the Field

go out and shoot rocks. Or predator hunt. Screw the range, go shoot on forest land/blm land and practice shooting from sitting positions, off of packs or sticks/bipod, whatever you have. -
Copper bullets for baited bear?
Savageman2506 replied to fisher_hunt's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
put it where it's supposed to be and you'll be fine with the TTSX. I shot a deer from 25 yards with a .25-06 and had good results. I agree with the shoulder shot. -
sorry, cancel that. I had a brain fart and realized I have a long-action savage..... 🤦♂️

I'll take it if you're willing to ship on my dime.

Hard to beat St. Croix. My ugly stick rod feels like a 2x4 after using mine, lol.

I know they're in there, what methods do you guys use to target them? I've fished my entire life and have never caught either species. I took a few trips specifically targeting crappie but came up short every time. Is there a specific part of the lake thats better over another? Or is it just a matter of trying spots until you land on them?
-
Well, goose egg again. I fished for a few hours, tried two or three spots on the dam side of the lake. I didn't even get a bite. I guess the panfish know I'm a trout fisherman 😂
