Guys this is pretty much an e-scouting help request. I have the late October Mule Deer hunt in Colorado GMU 34 (North side of Glenwood Springs) I was able to get up to the unit early in the summer and was hoping to make a second trip up before the hunt starts, but that's not going to happen. Has anyone hunted this unit before that would be willing to offer up some info? Not only will this be my first Colorado hunt, but my first Mule Deer hunt as well, so any general Mule Deer strategies would be helpful too. I have read David Long's "Public Land Mulies" and spoken to a couple of "Locals" but still looking for additional info. Thanks!

Wow!!!! What a great bull, congratulations. I'd love to hear the story!

Shooting with both eyes open is a combat technique used for distances shorter than you are likely to encounter while hunting. It provides for better situational awareness. If you have several deer standing next to one another, you could keep both eyes open to ensure a deer doesn't walk into your line of fire, but honestly, in that case you probably should not be taking the shot.

I have a Remmington 700 LTR (Light Tactical Rifle) in .308 Be prepared to spend a few hundred dollars getting it bedded and the action trued, but you will appreciate the action and the heavier barrel. I have a Harris bi-pod and a Nikon Monarch X series scope with the target turrets, a 20 MOA scope mount and Leupold Quick Release Rings. My 1st 3 rounds I fired out of the gun at 100 yards I was able to cover with a dime. I shoot Federal Gold Match 168 factory loads and it shoots a 1/4 - 1/2 MOA all day long. I also have a SureFire muzzle break on it (Barrel cut to 18"). I have shot this gun out to 800 yards with someone calling my shots and I have worked out my dope to that distance....I am no sniper, but I am very confident with this set up. Lastly I added a HS Precision bottom metal and drop box magazine. The Fed 168 GM ammo is prentiful and there is enough research and history with it as it is used by more LE Snipers than any other single round on the market.

I have the late November hunt and am looking for someone else to camp with as I will be hunting on my own. I will be hunting the Northern part of the unit. Let me know if you are interested in sharing a camp site. I don't drink when I'm hunting, not even your beer

Hey is it too early to start getting excited about next year I know it's probably crazy, but man I can't wait!

Dang Tyler that was a really cool hunt. It was longer than just a few minutes if you think about it. Really you been hunting for a month! I hope someday to scout up a deer ahead of time and get pictures and video the way you did, now that's what I call a successful hunt! I think we should start calling you and Christian the Dynamic Duo! Noice job Christian! Thanks again for your help on my hunt Tyler, I look forward to hunting with you again.

VEGASJEEP, I know I only have two posts, but I have be coming to this and other sites for several years. It seems to me more hunters have been succesful and that the antler growth this year has exceeded that of the last several years. This is perhaps subjective and as another posted said maybe because more people are sharing their stories and pics on line than before. Pat H

Is it just me or is this just a great year for bucks! With all of the pictures posted on this and ASJ, this years hunts have been impressive. I hope we get another year of good rain in 09. Pat H
