    Newfoundland

Bill, I hunted there in 2004. You'll see plenty of game, however it was a bit of a let down for me as the quality is nothing like we are accustomed to. Not that the trophies aren't good, it's just that both the moose and the Woodland Caribou are small in horn size compared to what we are are used to seeing in other areas of Canada. It's a different hunt than Western Canada as you will be in much thicker country, but all in all, if you haven't taken those species, you should go give it a try. By the way, where can I get your new SCI book? I'd like to get one and send it to you to sign as a former fellow employee! Kirk Kelso

Unit 36 A White Tail Nov Hunt

gnoto, If you made a mistake applying for 36A November, then the Gods must be smiling upon you!!!! In my book that hunt is one of the top in the State right now for a good coues. My wife, daughter and I all drew that as our first choice. Good luck on your hunt. I'd give you some help, but if my wife and daughter found out, it would be my butt!!!!! Kirk Kelso

Allen, Let's see just how serious you are!!!!! Are you pretty good with a video camera, and how much time could you be down there for? KK

    hunting videos

Trophy Hunter magazine has a new video out with some good coues deer footage. It's called Ultimate Hunting Adventures. It's not solely a coues video, as it has some other hunts also. You can order one from them. Kirk Kelso

    hunting videos

Rusty has a lot of video of our hunts and I think he is in the process of putting something together. I'm not real sure when it will be available, and when it is I think it will be included in some other Western hunts. I have a ton of real good video on our hunts from last year. I also have a cameraman set to film our total hunting season this year. This should give me sufficient footage to put our own video on the market. I think that when I do so, I will put some other footage in it also such as 4 or 5 Desert Bighorn hunts in Sonora and possibly some Mule deer hunts down there. We'll see. Kirk Kelso

    What a find!!

Treestandman, Great buck! dang, over 9 inch G3's is special. If the deer is typical with 55 3/8 inches on the side you've measured and adding a 12 inch inside spread, wouldn't that put him at 122 6/8?
  8. Josh, I agree with you 100% that the amount of inches this buck has beaten the "Real" world's record, by almost 40 inches is a hard one to swallow. Once the DNA methods can be established, then we should know for sure. However, this buck just has the "coues" look to me. yes, his G-2s are forked, but heck we've killed many bucks in the past with forked G-2s. If these were the only abnormal points on the buck, then I would be more suspicious, however with the others that accompany them, my bet is it is a coues. Just as you, that's my .02 cents. KK

    New law in Mexico

I can assure you that there will never be any law passed by the Mexican Government that would regulate all hunting tags to be issued from three, five or ten Outfitters in the Sonoran Outfitters Association. That will not happen as there are way more powerful landowners there than any outfitters and power is what runs that country. I know the outfitters bitch every year that we are down there running hunts, and I get the nasty looks and trash talk behind my back every year from them, yet when I'm alone, and they have the chance, there isn't any of them who hasn't approached me for my business. The landowners on a whole don't like and will not do business with many of them as they have been very unscrupulous with their dealings with landowners. We all have heard the horror stories from hunters of many a Mexican Outfitter, but down there the stories are from the landowners. Don't get me wrong as there are several competent Mexican Outfitters and they have plenty of business and don't care if we are there or not. It's the bad ones that are screaming. Irregardless of their bitching they haven't a leg to stand on with that course of action. You can not bring shed antlers back from Mexico. If you do, you stand the chance of being issued felony Lacey Act violations. The only way a shed can be brought in is with an import-export license from USFWS as well as the Mexican license of the same issued by SEMARNAP. There is an outfitter from here in Tucson who was arrested and issued over 30 violations for this last January. Kirk Kelso

    New law in Mexico

Derek, What you are talking about has always been the law. I'm not sure what you are stating. Kirk Kelso

    New law in Mexico

Allen, You are exactly right!!!! The landowners and Government will drive this issue, not the Mexican Outfitters. It has been illegal for several years to outfit in Mexico without a Mexican partner. Some of us use a Mexican partner and others use the landowner, which is fully legal to do. I know the Mexican Outfitters Association has been trying for years to stop this, as they feel we are the reason for their lack of clients, but in fact it's there own failures that have caused it. If everyone was happy and felt content to hunt with a Mexican Outfitter, then we would be out of work! There are legal issues that must be met to legally work in Mexico, and once these things are met, the Outfitters Association has nothing to do or say about it. I understand their motives for trying this, but they don't stand a chance against the other entities that welcome us and our clients to Mexico.
