    Did anyone tag in 36c???

Younghunter, Get up fairly high, sit down (bring a stool) get comfy, and glass. Use a tripod, you wouldn't believe how many more deer you will see when your glass is steady and can pick up slight movements. Use all of the people that like to hike/hunt to your advantage.

    Did anyone tag in 36c???

I did not shoot this weekend but did see one buck that got the ol heart pump'n, just couldn't get a good shot. I had between 20 and 30 opportunities on bucks over 3 days and probably passed on a couple I should have shot but oh well they will be there this week, when everything calms down a little.

    CouesWhitetail gear

Got my hat today, very comfortable. I will make sure I wear it in the pictures of my coues next week.
  4. Nice big, mature, ivory tipped bull, those animals really stir something up deep down inside of me! It is an emotion that I cannot explain. You apparently respect the animals you harvest and that is a very respectable thing. Thanks for sharing your stories, they are enjoyable.

    november hunt.

Are these dadgum days in slow motion this week or what? You would think that after 30+ years of fall hunting seasons a guy would get somewhat used to the wait but that aint the case for me! No sir! My absolute favorite time of year! Good luck to everyone and be safe. Get them pictures posted! Share! sharing is good! 3 1/2 more days..........................................

    Coues at 300?

I hunt with a 300 win mag and I have heard the same non-sense about over kill. I really enjoy shooting relatively long distances and have chose a belted magnum for that reason. My 2003 coues was 328yds, 2002 was 325yds and there were several more in the "pre-range finder days" that I am sure were 300+ yds. I have shot deer with .243,.308,30-06,22-250 and there is hardly any difference in the damage between calibers, most of it has to do with shot placement and bullet co -efficiency. Have you ever seen what a 50gr ballistic tip does when it is traveling 4100 FPS? Is it over kill?

nov Coues Hunt Dinner in Arivaca

Just got off the phone with a lady at La Gitana bar in Arivaca and they are not a resturant but they will cater to groups. If we want to have a get together there we need to let them know what we would like to eat and about how many will attend. They will serve pizza, chili dogs, sloppy joes...etc. If you all want to do this let me know and I would be more than happy to arrange it. You can e-mail to brian.fisher@abrams.com or befisher1@comcast.net.

    36C opener

You are exactly right Bullwidgeon, there are some dandys down low, I have seen several over the last few years but after what I saw during the first hunt I think I will take my chances on top. I am going to glass the low country from about midway up the first morning to ensure that up is where I really want to go plus I have never been all the way on top and deep into the range so curiousity has alot to do with it too. My pack is 42lbs and counting, still need to add more food. If I survive, it should be fun.

    36C opener

I just called my wife in the room to read redrabbit's post and to tell her "see I am not the only one with my gear laying all over the living room and cussing the weather man!" Too funny!

    Bore sighting advice.

I have an orange mail box across the street from me that I use, I open my front door and place my rifle in my shooting rest on the floor with the bolt out of it and center the mail box in the bore then adjust the scope accordingly. If I were you I wouldn't take the rifle out hunting without first shooting it after bore sighting, I can usually get it within 2" or so @ 100yds using that method then fine tune it at the range.

    36C opener

I was down there for the first hunt and we ended up 2 for 2, both were junior hunters and one of them harvesting his first deer. The oldest boy shot a nice 3x3 @ 358yds, I was impressed. He said he felt confident with the shot so we let him take it. It was a cluster at times down there, we had people shooting at deer on the same hillside we were on. We saw quite a few deer and probably 5 or 6 bucks a day. I will be in 36c for my hunt this Friday, I have decided to backpack way in up high and try to escape the "war zone".

    Any Luck in 34A

That is Agua Caliente canyon, I have taken a nice coues in there before and used to hunt it often. Walk the road up past the antenna and glass back north and south from the saddle east of the antenna, you will see bucks. I have also seen quite a few bears in there as well.

    DO BUCKS RETURN

The young man I was hunting with Monday shot at and missed a real nice W/T around 7 am and it appeared as if that buck was long gone, we watched him run over 3 rolling hills. Later on in the evening the same buck popped up about 30 yds from where we first saw him......he was not so fortunate the 2nd time.

  22. Well anyway.....congratulations on the animals and good luck on your coues hunt. I guess you are kinda old. "only two things that scare me......women and the police"
  23. Very nice CHD, you have harvested some quality animals. I had you pegged for being a bit older than you appear. Once again congrats and good luck on your upcoming coues hunt....right?
