I had my knee scoped this last June, I was riding my mountain bike 20+ miles in a week and a half and back to running 5 miles in about 2 1/2 weeks. I should've had it done a long time ago but I am a big wuss when it comes to seeing the doctor, the last time I saw a doctor before knee surgery they flew me into UMC in a helicopter! Good luck to all this late season opener

I was down in 36b yesterday attempting to call a lion in when I ran across one of the G & F officers that I have met and spoke with a few times, real nice guy. After shoot'n the breeze for awhile he got to talking about the proposed widerness area that will all but take up 36b, he asked what my thoughts were about it and showed me a map of what areas/road closures it would incompass. At first I thought great, maybe it would keep some of the "road hunters" out of the area but then the more I thought about it the more I became concerned with the whole ordeal. He urged me to keep my ears open for any progress in the matter and to pass it along to fellow sportsmen/women. It sounds to me like the government is trying to sneak this one right under the radar. This would greatly impact the entire 36b area and make access a real issue. I am all for wilderness areas but I personally think that this is not a good place to have it. Things to think about other than hunting access is Border Patrol access and even G & F access. This would give border crossers and "bad people" a place to cross our nations border virtually undetected. Any thoughts on this matter?

I sure am glad someone asked that question, it has been bugging me for a long time!

I ran across something strange yesterday and was wondering if anyone else has seen the same thing. A freind and I were calling coyotes down south yesterday when he glassed up what appeared to be a large mule deer buck dead on the side of a hill. We watched him for a while, he was laying up hill with his head streched out leaning on his massive antlers, I would have bet my last dime that he was dead. We figured that someone had shot him and lost the trail. So I called AZ G&F and reported it, the officer told me to keep an eye on him and wait. Meanwhile I decided to get a little closer, we got about 100yds away and were talking in a normal tone when suddenly he picked his head up. I could see that his shoulder looked wet but he never did look right at us. He eventually got up and went over the hill. I ended up showing the officer where I last saw him and he said more than likely he had been run real hard and was simply exhausted. I have never came across a deer that was totally, crashed-out asleep. The wet spot on his shoulder appeared to be slobber, like he had been licking it. This buck was a large 4x5 probably in the 170 class range. Anyone ever seen something like this?

I sure wish they would open something decent in Tucson. I went out this am trying to get a co-workers two boys into some coues and it was absolutely miserable, I haven't been that cold and wet since.................last season It sure beat the alternative though.............work We will try again tomorrow. -
There is an absolute toad NT posted in the coues section of Monster Muleys, it sure matches the description.

If I am not mistaken you also have to go to an AZ G&F office and sign it over to the youth there. -
Like I said cooz, I am sure it works to an extent but for me personally it is more about matching wits with an animal and not the kill. I can just see the headlines "Southwest archery hunter humped to death by deer" LOL. I used the rest of the doe pee I had as a practical joke, it is now under my buddy's desk at work...............oops, he reads this forum too

The only reactions I have had to using any of that stuff have been from my dog who mawls me when I get home from hunting and my wife who makes me put my hunting clothes in the shed. Honestly, I am sure it works...........for someone but not me. I have had better reations with sounds than scents, like soft grunts and estrous bleats and just plain ol' keep'n the wind in your face. Besides, the smell of that crap makes me gag uncontrollably. My bronco still reeks from an archery elk hunt I had in 2002..........I swear my buddy hid one of those dang wafers in there somewhere but he won't fess up to it!

Happy 48th....I would wish you luck on your hunt but we all know that " there are no deer of any kind in that area" Hope you have a good'n

Stanley, We ended up 3 for 3 on the boys hunt, for two of them it was thier first deer. The youngest boy ended up taking a nice mulie fork on Friday 11/26. I hope to have some pics soon to post. If you need help in Feb. either with javelina or camp you can count me in. I have a bunch of piggies scouted out for my archery hunt in Jan. If you really want some exitement I can try to call some in for you, they tend to come in with purpose! M1280 and I went scouting in Oct. and I called a bunch in on us in 36c.

Happy birthday M1280, hope you had a good one. See any deer yesterday? I guess I will have to slow down going up those steep 36b hills......now that you are getting, well, kinda old.

There is always next season, and just think, those bucks you seen will be larger next year. It was nice to meet you and your father also, you seem to be real nice folks and I can tell you got the fire in ya younghunter, just keep up the hard work and I'm sure things will work out next year. I was very impressed with Stanley's youth camp set up, he had a first class deal going there. Remember me for next year Stanley, I would be honored to lend a hand in any way.

Here is a picture of the "sleepy buck", a little fuzzy but you can get somewhat of an idea of his size. Notice the white spot on his shoulder.

I get to wait until Jan. but a couple of my friends have the Dec. 36b rifle hunt so at least I get to go along and be another set of eyes for them. I am anxiously awaiting the Jan. season though, seen a couple of BIG mulies the last couple of weekends.

I am just now able to access the discussion forum, I am really glad too, got a little tired of MM and the others.

I finally spotted the broad sided deer thru the trees not sure at first if it was a buck or a doe, I figured it might be a buck since it was wheezing at me and I thought I saw a glimmer of antlers so I fired my first shot from my 30-06 pump rifle, the deer just stood there so I put the cross hairs on it vml, I am glad you got a buck.................but really! Are those statements above real? People can certainly hunt the way they want to (inside the parameters of the law) but that bit of the story kinda makes me wonder.

Perhaps we should start a "guess what it will score" contest.

I like wolves..................taste like chicken. Seriously, the days of the wolves in the lower 48 have long since past. I n my opinion it would not be fair to the animals to try and force them to live in a habitat that will not support them. There is simply not enough space for a healthy population of wolves to live the way that god (not people) intended them to. It will only lead to conflict with people, and we all know who loses that one. my .02

Did anyone tag in 36c???
azpackhorse replied to azcouesandelk's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I will definately be there sometime Saturday. -
Congratulations to the youngman. Looks like we got another up and coming coues fanatic on our hands! For me the most rewarding hunts are the ones shared with the young hunters and particularly on thier first successful hunts.

Well, I went and did it this morning(harvested a buck that is). He is not the monster I had seen or was hoping for but I decided to take him anyway. He is a respectable 3 x 4 (not counting eyeguards) with alot of character. I will post pictures and details after I get the film developed....I am still in the 35mm era. -
