STOLEN TRUCK
azpackhorse replied to azpackhorse's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Thanks guys and gals, it is insured. The thing that really sucks is that my wallet, checkbook, and all my keys for the other vehicles, work, and my house were in it. I had ran out to start it like I always do and ran back into the house to get a cup of coffee and let the truck warm up a bit, it was maybe 2 minutes time at the most and it vanished. The cops chased the guy in Tucson (Fairveiw & Roger rd) but had to call the chase off do to unsafe road conditions. This guy had already used one of my credit cards to fill the truck up and tried to use another one to get cash but did not know the pin#. I was going to go down to the Santa Rita mountains tomorrow but it looks like I will be changing locks and waiting to see if this yayhoo tries to come back for more..................god help him if he does -
I use a SCOTT model Wolf, it has the velcro strap. I've used it for around 7 years without any trouble at all and I have beat the crap out of it. They run about $70.
-
I don't know about anyone else but I have no buisiness shooting further than 60 yards anyhoo.

I've broke two arrows so far, one on a rock and one on the steel rafters at work when I shot a pigeon. The javelina I shot this year is the first "big" thing I've shot with these carbons and it blew right through the shoulder and out the other side, I could hear the arrow clanking on rocks as it exited the javelina but it never hurt it. I dropped around 70 grains of weight by switching and have increased my velocity, my arrows are still 475 grains but are moving around 270-280 fps (I haven't chrono'd it in a while) I was shooting XX78 2315 super slams and now I can buy 2 dozen Redhead carbons for the price of 1 dz Easton alum. I may be wrong but I can't imagine there being $40 or $50 worth difference in performance between carbon shafts. Alot of the cracking problems may have to do with how the shafts are cut, if a high speed saw (8000rpm) is not used to cut the carbon it will create a ragged and split surface and when the shaft impacts something it will split.

Wernt me gnoto but if'n I ever find ya broke down out in the boonies I'll gladly give ya a ride.

I just switched to carbons this season and got away from what my buddies call the "telephone poles" so I figured I would start out with something cheap. I bought a dozen of the Bass Pro Shops (Redhead) carbons for $39.99/dz and so far I really like them, the straightness is the same as the big $ arrows and the fletching is a heavy gauge and glued on the shaft well. Can't really see paying too much more for a hunting shaft, I would rather put the $ saved towards a tag purchase or gas in the ol Yota!

We are planning a OTC spring turkey hunt in NM and after that it will be zapping yotes for a few months and praying for an archery unit 1 bull tag....oh ya and throw in an archery prairie goat tag too I have often been accused of being obsessed with hunting (by my wife) I prefer extremely dedicated! There is nothing like having a bull elk screaming 10 yards from you or the sound of a big ol tom gobbling coming your way........dang! I can't wait!

Here is a photo of my archery javelina I took this morning, I worked my tail off for this little guy. He will be sausage next week I ended up taking this javelina in unit 36b @ 20yds or so using my Mathews ultra-max.

Actually the two arrows with the broadheads out of the quiver I had not shot, I am using Montec G5's this year which are mechanical with no O ring and I could not get them to go in my quiver w/o actuating the blades so even though I know better I had them in there with the "sharp side" out. One of the arrows is a Muzzy 3 blade and the other one that is in there right is the G5 that I shot my pig with. -

oops, wrong catagory -
I'm with you grizzly, I have been shooting my ultra-max for 6 years now and really like it. Kaffer what is your draw length? my buddy has an ultra-max just sitting that I am sure he would part with, my ultra-max is shooting 267fps @ 70lbs with a 30" draw length shooting cheap bass pro shop carbons...$39.95/dz, can't tell a difference in the arrows.....until I look in my wallet

Happy B-day coues addict, did you have an opportunity to hunt Az. this year?

I do not own a quad, I will not own a quad but if someone wants to use them to pack gear in or access a hunting area over a bad ROAD then I really have no problem with that. I am sure that there are several people on here that use them ethically and legally but you can't really blame a guy for copping an attitude against the darn things when it seems like for every 1 persons who do not hunt off of them, there are 20 that do. For me one of the things I enjoy about hunting the most is the physical challenge of packing all my gear into an area on my back and then packing an animal out on my back. It just seems disrespectful to me to see such a majestic and regal animal such as an bull elk or coues buck flopped over the rack of a quad bouncing down a trail. Maybe it sounds sappy to alot of you but for me hunting has a spiritual side to it and I feel I owe the animal I have just harvested respect. I think that alot of people that go hunting (not hunters) have lost that sense of respect and spiritual connection. For as long as the good lord allows me to be physically capable of hiking and packing my gear, I will not own a quad. If I ever become unable to walk and carry my gear.......................I will crawl! If someone ever points a weapon at me they WILL be taught a lesson, there is absolutely no room for ignorance when it comes to handling firearms. If someone looks at me through a scope then I feel it is my obligation to EDUCATE them in what ever means I deem appropriate. I have taken a round right through the center and let me tell you it is not by any means pleasant. I have also seen a few people take rounds, some were accidents, some were not, some died, some did not. I would urge anyone who witnesses somebody looking through a scope at you to do something about it.

We had two guys on quads roll up and ask if we had been seeing anything, like I'm gonna say ya. He then told me that he had not seen any javelina in that area for about 3 years, about ten feet from where he was parked was a large patch of prickly pear that had been demolished and rooted up by piggies. In fact almost the entire road he had traveled on his quad "with his bow strapped to the front rack" was tore up with pig sign. God help me if I ever get that dang lazy! On the other hand it does leave more critters for me! I have also accidently gotten between other hunters and elk before, it made me feel like a fool, I immediately turned around and snuck out as quietly as I could.

My vote in the Tucson area is for Wellers, they did an outstandind job on my last coues and like Amanda said, the turn around is impressive. I am glad they decided to join us here at CWT, I was talking to them about the site when I was there in Nov. dropping a cape off for them. -

Both, the company I work for has gotten into the manufacturing of gun parts and accessories. Perhaps we will run into each other up there. -

I don't know about anyone else but I really enjoy eating them. I know chef will agree with that -
Watched several bucks in 36b fighting, tearing up trees and a little bit of chasing does. This morning I had 8 bucks in the FOV of my glasses, the biggest one was running the smaller ones all over the hillside, it was real cool. We saw 17 bucks yesterday and around 12 today but nothing my buddy wanted to take.......right now anyway! I would say that the rut is just started up down south but not yet in full swing but who knows, you could go two canyons over and they might be rutting hard. C'MON JANUARY!
