    COUES MOVEMENT

Last year I spent alot of time over a 6 month period prior to my hunt in an area I had planned on hunting, videoing coues. I consistantly video taped many of the same bucks in a 2 or 3 mile area. My buddy's son had the same hunt except in October and we tried to get him on a buck that I had taped in July or August, I knew it was one of the bucks I had video'd because of a distinctive antler characteristic. I ended up taking the very same buck in November. They seemed to have stayed in the same area for the most part, just altering thier behavior to the increasing pressure by hunters, becoming more nocternal and using brushy bottoms to move from feeding areas to bedding areas. It is my belief that unless something catastrophic happens, fire, encroachment, etc, that for the most part the home range seemed(in this case anyway) to be around a 2 or 3 mile radius. I also noticed that the bucks changed up thier routine more so than does, based on the assumption that the does I was observing were the same. Later in the year (december,January) in the same area it seemed to get real crazy with deer running all over the place, it was difficult to keep track of who was who in the zoo.

    2005 Fall Regs

I don't know about anyone else but seeing that line across the southern end of my state and reading the "warning" in the legend really makes my blood boil. I will continue to put in for the southern units............I might just have to change the weapon I use to hunt down there, time to break out the ol' AR15. I picked up the regulations and envelopes yesterday at wally world on Cortaro.

    Big Bucks

Just because people don't get on a public forum and spout off about how much $ they contribute and all of the good things they do for wildlife does not mean that they do not participate. Usually when a person feels the need to do so it really means that they know that they are not contributing as much as they should and are trying to make up for it with big words. I for one enjoy the vast degree of posts here, everything from the seemingly mindless to the educated and accurate information. When it comes right down to it Amanda knows who is responsible for putting thier money where thier mouth is and as far as I am concerned that is all that matters. So post on CHD, if nothing else you draw a crowd just to see what kind of bull*** you will come up with next, or leave for good. It really doesn't matter because the world does not revolve around what CHD thinks should happen. These are all just opinions and I have no formal education or degrees.

Curious if anyone received a reply from the e-mails that were sent? All I got was a standard automatic reply from Grijalva.

    Picacho Peak Elk

I believe the species of elk that was native to Arizona was the Merriam's. Javelina are steadily migrating further and further north also....next thing you know you will be able to purchase a Javelina tag in the Kaibab if you draw a deer tag

This seems appropriate..... Choices have been made All units are considered Now pray for a chance

    What Unit???

The 36 units have been hit real hard by an infestation of Tsi Tsi flies. It appears that the larvae came across the border attached to animals that immigrated from the dark continent. They seem to have flurished in the hot dry climate of our extreme southern units so I would have to suggest that you put in for the northern units and just forget about the 36's......................tell everyone you know. The best units would be up around Flagstaff, the Tsi Tsi flies have a hard time surviving in the colder climates.

    any body been out fishin

It doesn't have anything to do with crappie but I just got back from Big Lake a few hours ago and the trout are biting like crazy! My wife schooled me something bad this weekend on fishing! We drove up the Coronado trail and hit snow flurries from Rose peak all the way to Alpine.

I sent my letter as well. Thank you guys for the leg work. I hope to get a response, if and when I do I will post it here. It is imperative to keep the pressure up on this issue. It is our state, let's decide what is best for it.

    any unit

For coues it would be mid January unit 36c or 33 and for muley 13b mid January, both would be rifle tags.
  12. Awesome deer! You know, I truly love hunting coues deer but there is nothing quite like a big majestic desert muley buck with his ears back and head high, they are absolutely mesmerizing to me. It is sad that you don't see them as often anymore, 15-20 years ago I could travel 5 minutes from my house and find 170 class and up bucks. There were a couple in the area that would've rivaled any strip buck. Thanks CHD, very nice animals.

I beleive you, just trying to think of a logical answer. I am very familiar with the area, been tromping around there for many years. If you ever need help hauling water into tanks I would be more than happy to lend a hand, you can send me an e-mail if you like.

    Picacho Peak Elk

I know that a few miles down the road at Rooster Cogburn ostrich ranch they have deer, I wonder if they have or had any elk?

So. AZ forest may be closed!

I have to admit I really expected some sort of "lethal confrontation" to happen the first week, really the only bad press I have heard was that some of the volunteers had set off sensors. I commend those involved for the job well done, I hope they continue to assist the BP in a respectable manor. Keep up the good work, some of us appreciate it.

hunterdude, Which side are you coming in from, Rail-X, Marana, or Owl Heads? I have been told by several "old timers" that they swear they used to see whitetails back in the Tortolitas above Carpenter Ranch. I suppose anything is possible. I will have to wait to see the pictures Az4life posted as my work computer does not like them.

OK, I can't sit here and read this anymore without piping in. hunterdude, do you mean the Tortolitas or the Tortillas? I am having a really hard time believing that there is a wild elk in the Tortolitas, Tortillas would be a little closer but still! Don't get me wrong, I am not by any means calling you a liar, it is just that the likely-hood of a wild elk coming this far south is too much! Got to see pictures, and full story. There used to be some really big mulies in the Tortolitas ......perhaps.....................

    STOLEN TRUCK

I've had two trucks stolen now and both of them have been recovered in Tucson. I had a bunch of people tell me that my toyota was in Mexico, I guess it's just easy to blame it on Mexico when all you hear is horror stories about vehicles crossing the border. I didn't think it had went to Mexico being that it had been involved in an attempted robbery in Tucson a few miles off of the interstate and then seeing the surveylance video with a punk white kid on it. I have not given up the search for the original theives, I've been checking pawn shops and play it again sports for any signs of my stuff showing up. I thought I saw my diamond plate tool box on a truck the other day but when I got close enough to make sure, it turned out not to be it. The good thing is that my company makes tactical weapon accessories for law enforcement and military applications and if I could just get some good names I will have access to alot of information (legally of course since the investigation is still open) Someone really needs a good butt whoop'n over this!

    STOLEN TRUCK

These weren't the original guys who stole the truck but they described a kid that matched the one I saw on the surveylance video. They gave some names to the detective but when I called him last night all of the names given led to a dead end. These guys claimed that they had no idea the truck was stolen and that a guy had just given it to them but I am sure they knew darn well it was stolen, I am also sure thay know the punks that stole it so I gave them a little message to take back to thier theive friends, one I'm sure they will not soon forget! What was cool about it was the deputies let me have a little conversation with the driver without interference, nothing physical but some strong words just to let them know that I wasn't going to take it without a fight! I was so pumped up I couldn't get to sleep for hours! What sucks is that the detective says that the insurance company will most likely not press charges, they just want to re-coop some of thier money and don't really care about the criminals. As far as I am concerned these guys are just as guilty as the ones who took the truck in the first place. Took my new dodge out this morning, got it muddy, tried out the 4x4 and called in 3 coyotes!

    STOLEN TRUCK

UPDATE Well the insurance company settled last week, they payed it off plus a little extra which was nice. I've been looking at several different trucks in the last week and on Thursday of last week I was coming home from looking at the new Toyotas, sitting at a red light and thinking about how much more money they were and how much is sucked that some scumbag had stolen mine when I saw a truck sitting at the same red light as I was that resembled my Toyota. It turned at the light and as it drove past me I looked and saw my elk sticker on the back window, I thought "HOLY CRAP" there is my truck! I peeled through the red light and followed it to a car wash, I got out of my bronco and peeked around the corner and confirmed it! I then got the police on the line and told them what was going on, it seemed like forever before they got there! I then ran around the side of the car wash and got the deputy and told him to hurry, they were about to take off! He ran up to the truck just as the two guys were about to take off, pistol drawn, and ordered them to put thier hands on the dash I then got in my bronco and put my front bumper on the Toyotas bumper and blocked them in so they couldn't drive off and had my trusty ol .45 ready to go! They gave up with no resitance! They were arrested and hauled away! It was just so cool to get a little revenge on a couple of scumbag, druggy, punk-*ss theives! None of my belongings were recovered other than a few keys but at least the truck has been returned to the owner.....THE INSURANCE COMPANY! I went out last night and bought a brand new Dodge Dakota 4x4 club cab...............................WITH SECURITY SYSTEM! (and two x-tra magazine for the ol .45)

    really beginning to hate Tucson

I feel your pain! I should settle with the insurance company next week on my truck. I would take a big loss in $ if I could just get my hands around the scum that took my stuff. I am with you Amanda, Tucson sucks!

    STOLEN TRUCK

I went to the Quick Mart that these theives drove my truck to that morning and tried to steal magazines? and looked at the video tape of the kid entering the store. He is a little punk %ss white kid with his hat on backwards. I have an idea of where this kid came from that morning and am watching the house closely. All locks are changed and I am anxiously awaiting confrontation! I haven't heard anything more from the authorities, I would imagine they have bigger fish to fry but these punks have to be leaving a trail from trying to use my cards and it is just a matter of time before either they cross paths with the law or myself. I will try to get a copy of the video tape and take it to Kinkos and make very large pictures of the kid and post them everywhere with a reward.........just a matter of time you little mofo!

    STOLEN TRUCK

Dang billrquimby, I don't feel so bad now! It can always be worse I guess. This is our 2nd truck to have been stolen in 2 years, my wife went into Lowes on Oracle rd and when she came out her 99 Ford Super Duty was gone, I was out scouting for javelina at the time and when she called me I kinda ribbed her a little.........got paid back yesterday! I lost around $2000.00 in equiptment also in my truck, including 12x42 Pentax binos, tripod, tools, camo, and a bunch of other stuff. When I called my insurance agent yesterday to discuss my options for the contents of my truck (which auto insurance doesn't cover) they sounded bothered by my questions and warned me that my premium on my home owners policy would increase if I claim the stuff, I beleive that on Monday I will visit them in person and we will then discuss my options of cancelling my policy and perhaps a little lesson in customer service. Thank you for the suggestion az4life, I did that this morning. You only have to call one of the credit agencies and they will share the info with the others.
