I am going to "shed" 100 grains or so off the weight so I should gain a little there. I will have my Bowtech back next week and after it is set up and ready to go I will Chrono it here at work, I will let you know what the #'s are.
-
I drew an October 36c Coues tag, that's all. Guess I will be vaporizing bunnies with my new Bowtech I do have an elk hunt to help on in New Mexico and several youth Coues and Unit 1 rifle bull hunts to help with as well so the fall will be very busy!

Either you buy your Copenhagen in a 5 gallon bucket or you are an extremely good shot, don't know anyone personally that could hold a 2 1/2" group at 80yds. Not saying it can't be done, just that if it is than it is extremely exceptional. I personally struggle with a 2 1/2" group at 40 or 50 yards and I shoot a fair amount......by far not professional. As for arrows I used to buy the expensive $75-$80/dz and last year I decided to try the Bass Pro shops Carbon Supremes for $39/dz and am very pleased with them. I cannot tell any difference in accuracy and they poke really cool holes in critters just like the expensive ones, the only thing I have noticed is that the arrow that I stuck my Javelina with last year WILL NOT lose that stink........I put a blunt on it and it is used for whack'n pesky critters around the house now, just couldn't stand the odor in my bow case any longer.

Me too Grizzly, I have been shooting an Ultra-Max for the last 6 years but yesterday I took the plunge and bought the Bowtech Allegiance, it should be here next week. I am anxious to put it on the chrono after I get it set up and tuned, my Ultra-Max is shooting 265fps w/475gr arrow 30"dl and pullin 72lbs. If what they say is true then the bowtech should be over 300fps......we'll see.

Happy B-day young feller, I hope you get a chance to whack a Coues with your WSM.

So.....did you guys get any new pictures of OUR bull this weekend? Gonna post them on AZOD? -
I just got back today from a long weekend in the high country, I agree REDMAN that the shoot was set up top notch. There were some challenging shots especially with the wind kicking up. I was happy to see allot of youngsters shooting, we had 4 kids in our group that had a ball shooting the courses. Can't wait until next year!
-
Anyone here going to shoot at the Sunrise 3D shoot over the 4th weekend? I will be shooting in the "just for fun" shoot with a few friends, should be alot of fun.

Just checked out of curiousity and my cashier checks were all cashed on May 20th.
-
I used cashier's checks having had my wallet and check book stolen in February, missing a mortgage payment is one thing but missing out on getting drawn for big game.............well that's another! My guess for draw results being posted is July 22nd, bar any unforseen disaster like last year.

That is going to be one big bull when he's done sprout'n horn! I know exactly where that is and am willing to sell GPS coordinates for $500. -
I have never had a bad Coues hunt but I do have one that is special to me. It was in 1994 and it was one of my first Coues hunts as well as my stepson's first deer hunt. We were hunting in the Chiricahua mountains and had endured a sleepless night of being soaking wet and being concerned about Rock Creek rising so much that we were going to be stranded. In the morning we headed out to hunt greeted by sunny skies and the wonderfull smell of fresh, wet desert in the air. About 2 hours into our hunt I spotted 3 bucks across the canyon from us so we moved in for a shot. We got to within 250 yards of the bucks and my stepson was a little nervous so he wanted me to shoot first. Evidently I had knocked my scope off somewhere along the way and after expending all of my ammo he handed me his .308 and I tipped one of them over, racked another round into the rifle, set the safety and handed the rifle to him and he made an awesome 300 yard shot right through the heart. We shared a wonderful hunt having harvested our first Coues bucks together within seconds of each other. The Lord called my stepson home 5 1/2 years ago and every time I hunt Coues he is with me in spirit, he was a special young man that never had a chance to grow old and I miss him very much.

Paying the indians

I am a customer service rep./transportation director/expediter/............. for an Aerospace manufacturing company in Tucson, been work'n here for 17 1/2 years. The owners all hunt so get'n time off in the fall is no problem. -
I don't usually walk that far when Coues hunting, maybe 1-4 miles. I just pick a good glassing point and pick apart the hills and see if there's something worth walking for.
-
I also drew a rifle antelope tag in 2001 with only 1 point (2A). I shot my buck at 225 yards using my .300 win mag, that's when I quit using ballistic tips. This year I put in for archery hunts only. BTW I don't see an antelope buck coues slayer???
-
I'm wishing for a new Mathews Switchback to take on my archery Antelope hunt in 3B. Then I will use it on my archery Elk hunt in 3B a few weeks after the Antelope hunt.
-
I have harvested 4 Coues bucks, the largest being mid 90's. I am starting to get a little more picky and holding out for the bigger bucks....................until that forkie enters the FOV of the ol' Leupold! I also love to eat them little buggers, heck, I've been known to eat a 1/4 before reaching the truck.
-
Deer 1 (draw a tag most every year) Lope 4 (drew rifle 2A in 2001 with 1 point) Elk 3 (drew archery 3B in 2002) sheep 2 (donation) Buff 1 (hunter ed point) Good luck to all, I feel lucky this year!

Ok boys and girls, I know I can't be the only one that has to work my tail off to keep from being a lazy slob so I am curious as to what you all do in the off season to keep those rough Coues hills from kick'n your *ss. I came about 2 milimeters away from losing the ability to walk 6 years ago and it has inspired me to never take my health for granted. This time of year always kicks the exercising into high gear for me, the anticipation of possible upcoming hunts, and the heat....yep, the heat. I absolutely love to run in the beautiful, extreme Arizona heat! My wife claims that this odd attraction to extreme heat has a lot to do with my mental stability..or lack thereof So how do you all stay fit and ready for the hills? Or am I the only 40 something person that has to really work at it?

Mr. Quimby, I was taught how to pack animals out that way by my brother-n-laws when I was young. I grew up in Oregon and the blacktails I hunted were a little larger than our Coues but I think that for the most part they just enjoyed watching the young "kid" struggle with an animal on his back that, at the time, weighed darn near as much as I did. In 2001 my closest friend, myself, and his father packed 3 bull elk out of the Gila wilderness area on our backs in 3 days and yes it makes Coues seem like a walk in the park. Now they have horses and live in Vernon so the last couple of years we did not have to worry about where we downed an animal. Ernesto, on my 2002 archery elk hunt I lost 15lbs through the hunt. Hopefully I will have the opportunity to lose 15 more pounds this year! I have always been a big guy so through out my life have been expected to be the pack horse( actually that is where my azpackhorse came from) a knickname I was given by my friends but as I age and my knees get older and more tired I am more than willing to pass the pack horse name on to the younger generation.

I think that I would just use high pressure air and give it a good wiping down with a damp rag, the only thing I ever lube on mine is the spring in the arrow rest.

My apps have been there for a week or more (hopefully), I don't have nearly as much as you invested in them Scott but they are more than welcome to keep every pennie of it! 36C October Coues 3B archery wapiti 3B archery speed goat July is a loooong way off! -
I hear ya! This packout trip resulted in knee surgery 6 months later but this year I did the same thing, I was by myself so there aren't any pictures. This was about 3 miles from the border.
