Those are some nice lions Josh, we saw 3 lions this last December while helping on late Coues hunts. I plan on going back in there after the archers leave and before gun Javelina starts and try to get one. I have never taken a lion but I do an aweful lot of varmit calling, is there any particular call that they will respond to the best? or is it better to jusy try to glass them up? Two of the lions were together on the same hillside, both of them were adults also. There is also a big Bobcat we seen in the same area, he was being harrassed by a Coues doe with twin fawns, she stayed on him until he was way away from the fawns.

Here is a photo of my friend's Coues that he took on the 28th, I glassed him up and he did the rest. Wellers measured this buck right at 110", we punked him out in the dark and this is one of the biggest bodied Coues bucks I have ever seen. The photo is not the best but the eyeguards are 5" and the G2's are 8", the mainbeams are 18" and 5" at the bases, he was a big stud of a buck! I am the one in the background

Good luck Tommy, No pressure or anything but we are expecting quite a buck from you

Congratulations az4life, A trophy animal is not always the size of the animal but the size of the memory created.

Tommy, This is a different guy, Scott is the guy you are thinking of and we are heading out in the morning to get him a big buck also. Scott has passed up over 60 bucks on his December hunt but we will see how he does tomorrow (being it's the last day)

The area had indeed been burned a few years ago, don't remember exactly what year the burn occurred.

Well, this buck was taken in Arizona We had spotted another buck that morning that was probably close to being the same size as this buck but lost him in a large canyon so we decided to hunt another area that evening. I picked this buck up on a steep hillside about 1500 yards away with his nose in a doe, I could tell with my 10x that he was a big bodied buck but when I set my 15x's on him I knew he was a shooter. I told my buddy to get his stuff packed up right away and to hurry. We made our way a little closer to 636 yards and checked on him, they were paying no attention to us at all so we made our way down the adjacent slope and got to 440 yards. We got set up and Jeff settled down and focussed, with a deep breath and a sqeeze of the trigger the big buck stood straight up on his hind legs and rolled about 10 yards down the steep slope where he came to rest on an old tree. We made our way across the canyon and up the other side to where the buck lie. This fine animal is truly a buck of a lifetime and I am happy that I could help my buddy harvest him. Here is the first photo I took using my phone.

aint nutt'n wrong with be'n a redneck, I'm one and dern proud of it -
If you plan on hunting the south side of the road in between the areas you mentioned there is not alot of access other than foot in that area. The roads are generally swamped with people on the two early hunts down there, particularly in the area you mentioned. Just walk about 2 or 2 1/2 miles south of Ruby rd past the white pilons a little bit and they got some real nice Coues back in there They come over here and swipe our stuff so I look at it as getting a little something back once in a while For the most part if you get off the road a little you will lose most of the riff raff, especially if the country is rough and it requires physical exertion.

Got my mount back!

Thanks Josh, I figured he may be in Payson. I did a search on dexonline and put in major towns in Arizona and got a hit in Payson but the map showed it in Payson, Utah -
Well put J, tell your dad congratulations for me. Did you draw a tag this year?

Where is Mogollon Taxidermy located? BTW that is a fine looking mount. -
I've seen a couple on the Sasabe road while commuting to and from my hunt this past weekend. I was running through the desert by my house about a week ago (no, no one was chasing me, it was for exercise) and my trail I run goes down through Brawley wash, I was on my way home and into my 4th mile, with the sun and sweat in my eyes as I crossed through the wash. I put my hand up to block the sun so I could see the trail when the large limb in the middle of the path about 2 feet away rose up into an "S" and began to buzz. I am 6'4" tall and weigh in at 230lbs but the high pitched squeel that came out of my mouth was that of a 60lb 10 year old girl, one more step and I would've most likely been missing my October Coues hunt. I tossed sticks at it until it moved from the trail and allowed me to pass, after a safe distance away (200 yards or so) I sat down on the desert floor and had a good laugh at myself...............and left my chonies along the trail. I used to kill rattlers years ago but do not anymore, they are fascinating creatures and I have nothing but respect for them.

Good job guys! Those are very nice Coues bucks for sure, I heard a bunch of shoot'n goin on down your way the first couple of days. The mountains were particularly steep this year for some reason I got my son a couple of shots but we just couldn't connect, seen a couple of whoppers but no shots on them so I ended up taking a smaller buck on the 12th hour Monday, of course there was no one there to help me when I took him but I managed Again congratulations
-
Congratulations to you and your buddy Bret, those are fine bucks.

A coyote is the person that is paid to get the immigrants to the USA, did you guys find the Mexican money that was left at your camp? I thought that you guys would think illegals left it I may be contacting you for an Antelope hunt next year. Take care,
-
Hey Kevin, You guys definately earned those bucks you shot, it was nice to share the mountains with a good group of hard hunting guys. If you guys want to hunt in Southern Arizona again and need some help just give me a holler and I would be more than happy to help out. Tell ol' longwalker we said hello and congrats on the nice Coues buck.

younghunter, if you talk to that meathead tell him to give me a call.

here's another idea
azpackhorse replied to Kilimanjaro's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I'm gonna try and make it, depends on how bad those mountains beat me up. -
My first priority is getting my son a buck, it will be up to him if it is big enough. Then I will hunt for 100" or better until the last day...............then who knows. I know they are in there, I've been seeing them all year

Dang it! I need to pay a little more attention I guess, cuz I missed the super duper hot spot! Some people get a little freaked out about "thier" spots but the truth of the matter is there really isn't any place down there that people don't know about, I understand the obligation one feels to people that have given "thier" secret spot to them but come on, who's spot was it before they claimed it? Casey, go hunting, enjoy yourself, and if you need another "secret" spot I know the area well, just give me a holler. .02

Happy B-day Lee, it's all downhill from here bro!
