I looked for this ammo at Sportsmans Wharehouse but they did not have it, I have an old Model 94 that I like to carry when scouting and such that I would like to try the ammo in. I have been wanting to use my old 94 on a Coues hunt and this ammo would help I'm sure.

Nice shoot'n, looks like a fun day. Unless those are juvenile Gunnisons I beleive they are actually Round-Tailed Squirrels. Gunnisons would be in the 12"-14" range as where the Round-Tails will be more like 8". Anywho, good job on keeping the young'n interested.

The best way to get the most out of your GMC is to take it down and trade it in on a FORD -
Minutemen to Patrol AZ border in April
azpackhorse replied to az4life's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
At least they are taking action, I support them 100%. I don't know about anyone else but it'll be a cold day in heck before I ever give way to a smuggler from a foreign country in the USA. By gosh I believe that I am going to have to sign up for this one. -
It's a shame that this is what we have to put up with, there is really nothing else you could've done (inside the law).

I went through this last year when I decided to upgrade. The AR bows are nice, they are made by PSE here in Tucson so I would recomend swinging by the PSE proshop and shooting one. I ended up buying a Bowtech Allegience to replace my Mathews and have been nothing but happy with it. I am shooting the Radial X weave arrows and am getting 312/fps out of the Bowtech, those arrows are extremely light and strong. There are an aweful lot of good cam bows out there now, just about everyone makes a good, quiet, fast bow. I shopped around until I made up my mind on what I wanted then I bought my bow on E-bay, saved quite a bit of $.

Tucson is frigg'n cold! I can see Mt. Lemon from where I am and it's getting hammered right now.

Another elk/deer slayer taken out

I don't know too much about lions but I read an article recently based on a study that was done to determine the main diet of lions in a particular area, I was a little surprised to learn that in this area close to 50% of the studied lions diet was comprised of beef. The percentages varied with calving season of course. I guess it makes sense that a beef calf would be easier prey than deer or javelina. A very small percent was small animals (rabbits, mice etc.) They determined the results by collecting scat and analyzing it. I know a little about Coyotes and I have witnessed on several occasions more than one coyote "working" groups of deer to try and cut fawns out of the herd. Mule Deer does, like has been said, will fight back with the fury only an angry mother knows! I watched two coyotes last September in 36c try their luck on a group of Mule Deer and one of them got the crap kicked out of him. For anyone that enjoys calling coyotes try a fawn bleet when you first set up, especially down south. I've also seen a Bobcat harrassed by a Coues doe this year, the Bobcat seemed less than impressed. -
Last weekend I was down in 36c, I intended on calling coyotes in the lower country then hike way back into a foot access only area and try my hand at calling either a bobcat or perhaps a lion. We had seen bobcats and a couple of lions in this area on the December Coues hunt that I was helping on. I was by myself and decided just to hike back into the higher country right away and not disturb the wonderful silence of a clear morning, well I made my way into the hills and noticed some deer spooking off of the hill I wanted to glass from. I was about 250 yds from this hill and the deer were spooking towards me so I thought that maybe a large predator was on top of the hill so I glassed the top. I caught movement and about jumped out of my skin when I saw a guy peeking from between the rocks at me, at first I thought I saw a glint from a barrel so I dumped off in the wash out of sight and looked again, it was a smuggler. My whole point here is that if you decide to hunt 36c be prepared for stuff like this because I spend an aweful lot of time down there and this kind of situation is quickly becoming the rule not the exception. Not trying to freak you out or anything but the fact of the matter is that if you hunt down south you will run across "situations" so be careful.

What happened to the "view results" link? There was a link that allowed you to view the results of the survey to date, am I missing it? -

Has anyone seen pics the Mattausch Buck?
azpackhorse replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
It is nice to finally see a photo of this deer, it's been quite the buzz here in Tucson. Congrats to the hunter, absolutely awesome buck! -
Happy B-day Tommy! Hope you have a great day. P.S. Sally says to tell you happy B-day as well

Great job Casey! Even if it did have spots I think it would be considered a color variation and not a spotted kitten, if that's a kitten I would hate to see the parents!! Knock the heck out of them Coues eat'n suckers!

I would rather be posting a picture of my Archery Coues but that's a whole other story so 2006 Javelina will have to do. This is the first big game kill for my new Bowtech Allegiance, man this thing shoots sweet! This little boar weighed about 30lbs, which was fine, being I was a ways from the truck. I spent most of morning on the 17th of February stalking these critters, it was cold and the wind was swirling, finally this guy gave me a 42 yard shot. The Bowtech performed awesome except it shoots so fast I have a hard time seeing my arrow, thought I missed but he got sick real fast and rolled down the hill.

Good luck, you know what area you are hunting? If you need spots shoot me a PM.

What kind of bow did you buy? I really want to take a turkey with my bow, I've knocked a few feathers out of a nice tom but that's as close as I have come. It is really hard to draw on them unless you are in a blind but it's allot of fun trying.

The nearest water I know of was about 1/2 mile away, I just chase them around until they tire enough for me to take a shot.

I have the Leica 10x Trinovid BN's and have been nothing but happy with them. A couple of years ago I chipped one of the lenses with my release, right in the middle of hunting season. I sent them in with my warranty card and had the glass back in a little over a week. I have looked through the Ultravids and they are awesome, you really can't get much of a sharper and clearer image. -
DRAW... What is the time line?
azpackhorse replied to jamaro's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
The way I am understanding the fee increases is that they will increase over a period of time, I expect them to increase 30-40% for the 2006 hunts but like I said it is just a W.A.G. I would be surprised if the permit fees did not increase until 2007. -

azpackhorse replied to jamaro's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
G & F have a meeting on the 9th in Tucson for public input (ya right) and one last meeting on the 11th in Pheonix then they will make thier recomendations for the 2006 changes. I do not believe there is a hard date for regs to come out, as usual there is a controversy filled cluster in the G & F ranks. So to answer your question.........who knows, I think that the fees will go up somewhere from 30 to 40% but that is a W.A.G. I hope to see some fellow CWT at the Tucson meeting in one week!
