    Draw Results

Michael, I honestly was not pick'n on you, sorry you feel that way. My question is a real one, I do not know how many points are maximum, never really gave it much thought. I don't know when the point system started, never had much need for them. I guess I could research it myself and do some basic math but I am lazy, besides it makes for conversation to kill the time until they post the draw results on 7/21 @ 5:15pm MST. My comment about the "know all fellas" was aimed at those of us that like to guess, and think we know when the results are com'n out.........you coined the phrase not me. I started hunt'n year before last...........................come on now...........hug time
  4. Dang, aint heard nutt'n from Casey since his B-day. Hope he made it thru his 21st ok.

    Draw Results

I beleive it muleybull, it's all in when your number comes up. You obviously were extremely close the very front of the draw process. They will draw your first choice and if it's not available they go your 2nd and so on. It has more to do with luck than a science for sure. I drew a rifle antelope tag with 1 point, just because my number came up early, nutt'n else. The max point pools are becoming so saturated that the chances are becoming near to equal for people with hardly any points........................that's my guess anyways.

    Draw Results

you will not see CC hits before the draw in Arizona and this guessing is all part of the tradition, do you want to guess Michael? Do you have a possible tag at stake? BTW, my statement a few posts ago is nutt'n but the truth I had the same thing happen to me muleybull, I was a little hot under the collar. I still think that they should allot the tag to the next guy in line.

I didn't want this to be common knowledge but I've got a connection on the inside and they guaranteed me that we will be able to access our draw results right after they post them.

    Tags?

I heard from a bald little birdie that you're gonna run them elk around in E Tommy, if you see one o'them big muleys hitch him up to a tree and I'll get him in November! I seen a real nice bull in there last November. Sally's got a secret spot in there Good luck on your hunt!

    Superbiggameraffle

Quite a few stayed in Arizona, the Coues tag went to someone in Tucson..........but it wernt me They are going to list the winners by Monday, you can find the link on the AZGF website. If you look at the Az. regional conference on Bowsite it lists where the tags went (state). Hopefully someone from here got the Coues tag.

    One thing

depends on where I was, down south here you don't need nutt'n......you can find just bout anything you need hang'n in trees or down in washes..........especially black garbage bags I would have to say phone, then a very close second would be no doubt SKOAL

    Waiting your turn

I would never ever willingly sit out of the draw so that someone I don't even know could draw an elk tag. I don't mean to sound like a total jerk here but the truth of the matter is that when it came down to actually doing it I would guess that most of you would feel the same way. I look forward to applying for hunts and the nervous anticipation of possibly drawing an awesome elk tag! I honestly don't care if my neighbor down the street, who I don't know, draws a tag or not. Just trying to keep it real here. I think it would be a good thing if there were a way that I could draw an elk tag every 3rd or 4th year, even if it meant not being able to apply for that time but not because I am worried about Joe Blow's elk tag, I am looking out for my elk tag. I do not ever expect to draw another Antelope tag...........because I drew one in 2001 with only a couple of bogus points but that is the beauty of the whole draw!! You just got to love it!

    Deer opener = Dove opener

Hasn't dove and archery always over-lapped? The only difference this year is that they will open on the same day.

    Video addiction

here is the link Bass:http://www.sancarlosrecreationandwildlife.com/FORMgallery1.htm I agree that allot of the hunting videos are garbage and their depiction of real hunting leaves allot to be desired, when I see one that makes me feel that way...............I turn it off.

    Video addiction

If you are an elk junkie like me you have got to check out the elk hunting videos put out by the San Carlos Apache tribe, I play them at work in our high tech training/meeting room. It has Bose surround sound and a high definition projection screen. Next best thing to being there!

    Backpack recomendations

Doug, you would probably end up carrying more food just to keep that kid fed than carrying your own gear I bought a Eberelstock last year and had the opportunity to use it to pack out my Coues buck, rifle, and all of my other gear in it, all in one load. My pack weighed 43lbs before I stuffed the buck in it and all I did was gut it and chop the legs off at the knee. The load stayed real steady for my 1 1/2 mile hike back to the truck so needless to say I am very pleased with the pack............................in September I'll let you know how it does on elk quarters and a whole Antelope I did look at the badlands 2800 real hard before I bought the Eberelstock J1 and from what I could tell it seemed to be a good solid pack but you never know until you load it up and put in some miles, I liked the scabbard on the J1 so that was the final selling point for me since I hunt alone allot.

What is your Coues deer set up?

Ruger M77 stainless/laminated stock in .300 win mag, leupold 3.5-10x50 VIII w/bipod. This rifle loves the Federal Classic 150gr, the accuracy is amazing and I would love to take a 500yd shot at a Coues someday(if the conditions are right) Leica 10x32 trinovids, Brunton 15x51 atop a Nikon tripod. Just bought the Eberelstock J-1 last year and love it, I can put waayyy too much crap in there! I also carry a three legged fold up stool to sit on when I glass, my back can't handle sitt'n on the ground. Bowtech Allegience, PSE radial weave 28 1/2" w/ Rocky mtn Snypers. This bow is spitt'n arrows out there at 312fps and is easy for me too shoot. I whacked a stink pig with it this year and hope to add an Elk and a Antelope to the list this year as well. One of the most important things I do to make my Coues hunts enjoyable and productive is exercise and allot of it. Everyday I will run anywhere from 2 1/2 to 5 miles and upper body strength training as well, may not be priority for you younger fellers but someday you will know what I am talking about. Hey Tines, if you wanna check out the Eberelstock pack give me a holler.

    The AZ One Shot Challenge

When I am hunting I have a round chambered in my rifle, when I have to crawl, cross a fence, or hand my rifle to someone else to do something similar to the mentioned tasks I will clear the rifle. I know people who do not agree with having a round chambered until time to shoot.......fine with me but I do have a round chambered while hunting. I am confident enough in my ability to be safe to do so, ya ya I know, there are accidents and things will happen that you can't control but such is life. Anyone ever drive around without a seatbelt? I hear of allot more people being thrown from a vehicle because of not wearing a seatbelt than people being shot in the field because Billy-Bob tripped on a twig and shot himself cuz he had a round chambered................the point is that anyone that likes to argue, givin a crowd, will do just that. I really don't give a crap if you shoot 500 yards, carry a loaded rifle, or wear a seatbelt.

    What did you apply for?

I put in for the 16's for deer, still trying to decide on the elk.

    which of these for elk

The only Elk I have shot with a rifle I shot using a .300 win mag hurling 180gr Nosler Partitions, granted this was a whimpy New Mexico elk, not our big stud Az elk but I was pleased with the performance of the bullet. In the months prior to the hunt I loaded 100 rounds with the Partitions and shot everything from rabbits to Coyotes and they even work well on much smaller game
