Who's the oldest hunter you know?

I had posted a story about a month ago about my buddy's grandfather Ray Abrams who is 83. Ray lives up in Springerville but spent a lot of his younger days in Southern Arizona cowboy'n for ranches down south, Ray told me a story bout how he suggested to the ranch owner down around Arivaca bout damming up a spot and making a lake which is now the site of present day Arivaca Lake. I could sit and listen to Ray all day long and by god giv'n a chance he'd tell ya stories all day long Here is Ray with his November Coues, which of course he shot with a 30-30

Twelve Days of Christmas: 34A Coues Hunt

Great story and photos Doug, sorry about the lost animal. I had a similar experience with a lion this last weekend, it's a hard pill to swallow for sure.

    Line In The Sand

Exactly my point Mr. Friddle! Would it be ethical or even legal to hunt in Arizona like they do in Africa?? NO but it's legal there and gobs of people do it, I personally don't have a problem with it.........cuz it's legal there! Do what you want and how you want........within the boundaries of the law = ethical in my book. Do I always agree with it? NOPE but why should I shove my "ethics" down someone else's throat?? Don't much care when it's done to me......... Slippery slope for sure fellers...............................

    Line In The Sand

I dun red da hole thang. we really ought to come up with a world-wide set of "ethical standards" but this would more than likely encompass things.......say like shooting out of vehicles or shooting out of blinds set up on water holes in the middle of the desert.............................guess that leaves out hunting in Africa!! Hmmm........who would determine where the line should be drawn? Prolly aint gonna be someone who loves to hunt in Africa..........or Texas for that matter!
  6. I had the privilege of helping with my buddy's family hunt this past weekend. There were four generations of his family hunting together, Scott, Mathew (Scott's son) Matt (Scott's father) and Ray (Scott's grandfather). What a great family to hunt with and just plain be around, I consider them as part of my extended family. Scott's grandfather is 83 years old and truly a living peice of Arizona history, they just don't make them like this old cowboy anymore! I am going to post the photos and have Scott (SA AZ BOWHUNTER on the forum) tell the story. Here is granddad's setup for his shot, notice the model 99E Savage 30-30! End result of the 30-30!! Four generations sharing what this family loves to do! Matt's awesome Coues!! (which I just so happened to glass up for him!!) Photo of father/son with their Coues! Thank you so much for letting me share your hunt! Your buddy, Brian
  7. That dillhole should have been jailed! All that took place not 4 miles from my house, he also ruined some great duck and feral hog hunting not to mention made the road to Sasco even worse then it was!!

Couple of Dec. bucks for good friends

Nothing like sitting around a camp fire with these guys and listening to their stories from 60 or 70 years ago. Ray used to cowboy for a ranch by Arivaca and has rode horseback all over that southern country. They used to hunt the Kaibab and make the trip in a model T!! Like I said, he is truly a walking peice of Arizona history and I feel extremely privileged to call Ray a friend and had the opportunty to help him take a nice Coues buck!

    Rain Gear

I broke down and bought the Rivers West H2p jacket and pants a couple of years ago, I used them in New Mexico when it was 16 deg and a 30mph wind and I actually got hot when I was walking. When I sat to glass they cut the wind very well, never got cold. Last year I got to use them in the snow, I was anxious to use them so when we got out of the truck about an hour before light I put the pants and jacket on and flopped down in a big snow bank and made a snow angel My buddies looked at me like I was loco! So far I am nothing but pleased with them, however the set was a little expensive, right around $450 for both.

    Best Choice for Varmint rifle

I personally like to use my .300 win mag, not only does it give me time behind the trigger of my primary hunting rifle it also does quite a number on yotes and PD's. Nothing like having confidence in your rifle when it's down to crunch time.

Realization of how lucky we are all.

Great post Casey! I am proud of you! Not a day goes by that I am not thankful for my health, just like many other people I have literally been 1mm from being bound to a wheelchair and even closer than that to not being around at all. Just last Friday my wife and I were hit by someone that had been drinking, they impacted us at 90+ mph (my estimate). Other than our car being totalled and a couple of cases of whiplash we came out of it alright. One of my buddies told me that I am the luckiest unlucky person he knows Be thankful for what you have and your loved ones, you never know when either will be gone.

    Another quote to play with!

I am not positive but I think it may have been Theodore Roosevelt. I won't google it and wait to see if that is correct or not.
