What makes a successful hunt for ..... YOU?
azpackhorse replied to WinMag's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Along with what others have said, the older I get the more it changes for me. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE dropping the hammer on Coues bucks but it's more about a well rounded experience now. The camp and fellowship are things that matter more now. I also find myself enjoying myself helping others on thier hunts just as much as hunting myself. I still have very vivid memories of camping and hunting when I was a kid, I did a lot of it on my own but I think back to what I enjoyed the most and try to make good memories for youngsters that hopefully will last them a lifetime. The one thing that stands out for me being a youth and hunting with my bro-in-laws is when an adult would talk to me and listen to me like it mattered to them, I try to do the same for kids. -
Thanks Terry, sending $ today

I've been thinking about building something similar to that for a while, I wanted it for calling yotes but I guess it would work well for those 800 yard shots too

salt and feed no more in 2009
azpackhorse replied to wardsoutfitters's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
R12-4-303. B.Except for the use of nutritional supplements, salt, or salt-based materials produced and manufactured for the livestock industry and placed by individuals raising livestock or the Department for the benefit of wildlife, the following uses of edible or ingestible substances to aid in taking big game are unlawful. 1.An individual shall not place edible or ingestible substances, including salt or salt based products, to attract big game for the purpose of taking big game. 2.An individual shall not take big game with the aid of edible or ingestible substances, including salt or salt based products, placed for the purpose of attracting a big game animal to a specific location. So the way I read this is that it's fine to place salt for photographing wildlife, as long as you are not using it as an aid to "take" big game animals. If this is not the case then you will have big problems on your hands. How is it that you can prove that my trail cam is being used to aid me in taking big game? How close to a trail cam site that has been salted can I hunt? Can't hunters also be photographers? Or because we are hunters is that all we do? How do trail cam sites in July fit into this rule? How can someone prove that a trail cam site "baited" with salt "aided" me in taking a big game animal? Would they have to be eating from the salt pile when they were shot? -
Good luck, knock ones antlers off..........err ahh....I mean knock a good one down cuz Might see ya down there.

azpackhorse replied to wardsoutfitters's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I don't think that will be the case, the difference is in the wording "substance" versus "device'. I think they are targeting scents and edible attractants not calls but if thier rule applies to private property as well then all heck will break loose, you know how many quail blocks and sh$% like that would apply?!? There won't be any more elk scents or wafers either, I think New Mexico has that same rule?? -

I am curious to see if it reads "you cannot take animals using these" or if it's just plain "you cannot use these" for anything, even in the nonhunting situations. I guess we will see -
Holy smokes! Jim, congratulations on a true Monster mule deer! What an awesome buck.

Christmas tree? -
I've seen it a few times, I don't think it affects the meat at all. This is from my buddy's wife's deer a couple of years ago.

I want to wish our son Trampus happy birthday, Trampus and I took our first Coues bucks together many years ago in unit 29. They were both fork horns and he made a much better shot than I did, we were so happy and it was a time I will never forget. Trampus was murdered 10 years ago today, on his birthday. I love you Trampus and I will see you again someday in heaven.

I was in 36b this last weekend and seen a 3x3 with his nose to the ground cruising the ridges.

This guy wouldn't get up for nothing This buck was out cold with his head laid down to the side, we thought he was dead and got about 80 yards from him before he got up.
