Im not one to ask for hunting spots or anything but i have a buddy flying driving in from kansas to pig hunt. I have taken him out in past years and showed him the unit he was suppose to put in for. HOWEVER he ended up putting in for a different unit. I have never hunted unit 32 and he tells me thats the unit he accidently put in for. I cant make it out this weekend. Is there anyone hunting 32 this weekend that i could give his number to that could reach out to him. He is a kansas game warden so you might even end up with a new state to deer hunt in

I have an archery elk tag and have put some miles on my truck scouting. I have the opportunity to fly the unit thanks to a friend. This is a new unit for me so I've been trying to do my homework. Has anyone ever flown their unit and was it more beneficial.

Just another story to tell your grand kids. it just wouldnt be hunting if everything always worked out perfectly the way we wanted. Im laughing because thats kind of funny. Im sure all of us have a story or two like that and if you dont they will someday. Go get em and post a pic of you next to him. make sure you have a smile on your face showing him who had the last laugh

thanks for the info. Im gonna give it my best shot. Not sure when the next time I will draw a kaibab tag so trying to go all out and take advantage of my tag. Any info anyone may have is greatly appreciated. Gonna be making scouting trips back and forth but kinda feel like im starting from scratch since so much has changed since the fire.

I am definitely excited about drawing a kaibab tag. I went scouting this weekend and went expecting to see as many deer as i saw about 4 years back. I was a little disappointed. I did see deer but most on the 12W side. Some of the areas i remembered were very overgrown and to thick to really rifle hunt. I know its still early but the trip has me scratching my head. Has anyone been up there and experience the same thing.

thanks! I talked to a few hunters that hunted the area last year and they both said they hunted below the first couple of days without seeing anything. I am considering taking a few cameras to checkout a spot a buddy told me about. I checked and glassed that area first before going on top. saw nothing and no sign anywhere. Im thinking maybe things will change after the archery season gets underway. On top saw a few but 12w side seems to be holding most of the bucks from what i observed.

Im not impressed there isn't an elk in there anywhere. Just kidding awesome job!

I was with my buddy hunting the southern part of the state helping him fill his coues rifle tag (& if the opportunity presented itself fill my archery tag) and we classed up a nice 90inch buck that he ended up tagging. To my suprise the buck was already with some does and chasing off other smaller bucks. He continually rounded up the does when they got to far away from him. I thought it was a little early for the deer to be as active as they were. Was this the exception or have others noticed simular activity? P.S. We recorded the hunt on video so hopefully we will have it posted soon

whats your take on this? You don't think the rut is starting this early do you?

The Kaibab Buck and the Wheelbarrow
treemarshal replied to AZ Jim's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
NICE DEER! Its nice to hear someone give credit where credit is do. I truly believe in the power of prayer. Its become a regular part of my hunting practices. A couple years ago I shot my first coues deer. After some frustrating circumstances I promised my hunting buddy that if I didnt see any deer within 30minutes we would leave (his wife was on his butt about being gone so long). I shot a prayer up to the father and he sent me a 80class buck. Not bad for my first coues. Thats the short version. He showed himself so many times that hunt I have to tell of his goodness. Since that time he has shown me with him I will tag more animals catch more fish and be the christian he wants me to be. Thanks your story was encouraging. -
I have an archery bull elk tag in 4A. Woundering if the elk are bugling yet.
